Hi Friends. This is my second year going to PAX West (used to go to South). Does this group ever do meetups? Would anyone be interested in getting together, maybe at GameWorks or Shorty's?
Do you mean like cosplay meetups and large gathering photoshoots? There used to be tons of them. But PAX screwed that up by restricting attendees to not be in the park anymore, and the new building doesn't have an area that makes it possible, so there's nowhere that makes any sense to do them anymore. In 2019, they started using those metal bar concert style barricades, to make a "don't go past here" barrier, within the courtyard. They have since moved them back so that the entire courtyard is now open to attendees. But if you leave the barrier, they will force you to go all the way around the building, back to the only set of doors you're allowed to enter through, on the opposite side of the building. Can you imagine one of those photoshoots finishing up? Sometimes they'd have upwards of 50-100 people. ALL of them would have to go back to the entrance and get in line again. No one wants to do that, so in one swift movement, PAX almost entirely destroyed the idea of photoshoots and meetups. I have yet to met anyone who knows why they did this, or if there was any actual reason for it. It just seems like taking things away is fun to them.

The new building has the garden terrace on the third floor which is a great spot for this. ECCC had plenty of Cosplayers using it. Meet ups in general seems to have fallen off as forums died out unfortunately.

Oh, that's good to know. At Sakuracon it was a little hard to tell what was or was not a good place in that building for gatherings. The area you are talking about, was that were, if you get off the escalators, take a left (since going up, the escalators are on the right side, and the rooms are on the left), then take another immediate left (U-turn off the escalators), and down that hall to the right where it's a large open lobby type area? If so isn't that on every floor from the 2nd floor and up? Cuz for Sakuracon, those areas were barren of people for the most part, so if so, those are perfect.

Yes, you do a U-turn off the escalator, but on the third floor specifically there is an outside garden terrace that is similar to the outside park area of the old building where everyone would do cosplay pictures.
If you go here you can see it as the header picture.
It has some raised platforms good for individual pics and some large flat areas good for group pics. Plus it is part of the convention center, so there is no going back through security. It looks like part of the area will be used as the Voodoo Ranger beer lounge, but there should still be plenty of space. I also imagine that the wooden seats next to the escalators would make for some amazing group pics. Of course that area may be harder to get enough space.

Wait. An outside area? We didn't even see that while we were at Sakuracon, and we roammed all of the floors of the Summit building. How the heck did we miss that lol Yea, we gotta do more LOOKING instead of just me recording things cuz how in the world did we miss an entire outdoor area? Thank you so much for this!
