That was literally my first thought too, upon reading the comic.
"This summer, 5 balding middle-aged men who played 5000 hours of FS2020 in their basement are tasked with piloting and landing a fully-loaded Boeing 747 for a commercial airline. Hundreds of lives are at stake in 'Flight Simulator!'"
I'm not sure "reorganize this freezer so we can fit a new load of groceries in it" would make for good TV, but I think I'd be good at it.
Honestly, Flight Sim is actually pretty close to flying an actual plane, or so I've heard, especially among people who set up actual cockpits.
It doesn't translate into actual skills, but the US military in particular gets consulted a lot on modern military shooters. They view it as a recruitment tool.
IIRC there are some planes for which you can actually get some credit for hours in MS Flight Simulator.
Just don't get too overconfident.

Well, there's this famous xkcd strip.
I can state with confidence that Stardew Valley did not teach me how to handle a garden.
I've played a lot of Fallout games but hopefully I never find out on that one.

1st: woah they fixed it, that's rad!
2nd: i always notice those sorts of things...i love how goofy and weird english is! i...could have been more wordy with my first post to make it seem less snooty though i suppose. apologies if i came off snooty, i'm just a dork.
That story went fucking everywhere and yet he managed to bring it full circle.
I've heard that too, which is why I felt it was the perfect game for that joke; still, I wouldn't board a plane where the "pilot" has nothing but FS under their belt and no actual formation.
Gorman: Thirty eight... simulated.
Vasquez: How many *combat* drops?
Gorman: Uh, two. Including this one.
So you're saying that they managed to land the plane?
The guys get dunked on but Jerry's newsposts are what keep me reading the front page of the site. Occasionally they tell me about something mildly interesting I'd missed, but a few times a year he sits down and writes something great.
