Farming sims! They're fun! Let's chat about them cabbages and dang ol chicken raising and such!
What are farming sims you ask. They're video games, ya idjit. You plant stuff, make money, scrounge resources, marry hot guys, build a farm mansion and OWN THE WORLD
Immortal Life <—— implies spreading the human seed for generations, that’s fuckin
Everdream Valley <—— wet dreams about people’s nether regions
Graveyard Keeper <—— well I’m struggling with this one but fortunately
I have My Time at Sandrock preordered. It'll take a week or two for it to arrive. I played My Time at Portia a ton but never actually beat the story.
I'm eagerly awaiting the new Stardew Valley update. The last time I played I unlocked some late game stuff but I definitely barely scratched the surface. I don't think I'm going to start a new game when the update comes out, unless it's recommended.
Gleaner Heights was kinda cool but I didn't play it enough to learn what was going on in the town.
Rune Factory 4 is rad. Rune Factory 5 I barely played. It's not terrible but I just couldn't get into it.
The timer to do stuff and having to not do stuff sometimes because of it
some games actually let you increase the day timer, some games now don't force you to sleep and, if it is the standard "be in bed by midnight", there's always more days to do stuff
I've never felt the pressure of time in a farming game. I guess some people play Stardew Valley like they need to restore the community centre in year 1 or else, but there is no time limit to do anything. Some quests are on a timer but there's no penalty to failing a quest and you can try them again later.

Are there any besides Stardew with co-op play? Mrs. Red Robe and I had great fun in Stardew together but I don't enjoy playing these solo.

I've got Wylde Flowers on my Switch wishlist.
I've been playing Sandrock in EA and it's pretty great.
I hate Stardew updating because it borks all my mods and I have to manually replace them all. I wish the mods were easier to use.
I'm the same with Gleaner; it looks impossibly cool but i can't stick with it long enough for the real creepy stuff to kick in
I also dropped off RF5 real fast. No idea why.
You will LOVE Wylde Flowers.

How's Dinkum these days. I liked the crafting and building of it but it all felt pretty meaningless when I played it. Needed some Stardew style character plotlines.
My favourite Rune Factory game is Frontier for the Wii. Its only flaw, and it's a pretty big one, is that you need to take the time to manage the runeys in each part of the map or it will severely stunt the growth of your crops. If you know how to deal with it, it's fine, but it is still something of a chore. And people playing the game blind are not going to know what to do. But still, I really liked the game.
By the way I heard the new Harvest Moon by Natsume is not terrible. I might pick it up one of these days. Natsume still hanging in there, trying to make Harvest Moon happen.

Nothing better, sorry. It doesn't have a story pretty much at all, sadly.
You may like Wylde Flowers or Coral Island tho, they have some AMAZING character plotlines. The folks in Coral Island are all so wonderful, my stars.

I have enough I don't have to bother with Natsume.
I HATED the Runeys in Frontier, absolutely killed the game for me. It just took so dang long to vacuum them up. I hope they someday do an updated version because other than that it was wonderful. My fave RF now is easily Tides of Destiny, I just adore it.

I am definitely going to check out Coral Island. Probably in the depths of winter when I have a lot of free time and need some colour in my life.

there is SO MUCH COLOR it's so incredibly pretty i just like to go in peoples' house and just look at all the little details in their beautiful homes
Once some of the stress in our state runs its course and my wife's job goes back to normal a bit, we're both restarting Stardew Valley for the winter with the knowledge we gained through our first plays. I know I never really attempted any of the wooing of townsfolk, so I'm especially excited to try to get a spouse this time.
One thing I'll say about Sakuna is that it goes HARD on what I have to assume is hyper-accurate rice farming. Literally every single step has its own rules and techniques ranging from how far to plant the sprouts to how long to husk the rice.
However it's not a very fun game and I had to drop it because it committed one of the cardinal sins of an RPG: it locked me in a location way beyond my level that I could not leave and had no way to get stronger, because your power only increases based on rice harvesting not enemy kills. So I was literally stuck.

Yeah, it's really interesting to see the rice planting but the game is maybe 6/10. Still worth a look I feel.
Wylde Flowers is getting really good word of mouth, but I really hate the art style of the characters. Fae Farm looks great, but the Switch tax on it is just too much for me at the moment when the same price will buy so many other games.
How is Graveyard Keeper? I keep thinking about grabbing it, but then other stuff seems to sneak in and steal my money first.
Bloody Hell Hotel is an upcoming management sim where you play a vampire renovating a haunted mansion to attract guests to eat. There's multiple vampire classes to play and different bats to choose to turn into. It's also the game you would get if you removed my brain and smeared it on a 3.5 floppy.
Saw this was on sale yesterday and almost got it, but also moonstone island was on sale for slightly cheaper and when I watched the video for moonstone island it had card battles so pretty much had to buy that instead.
Still got patcha wishlisted for next time I need to farm some turnips tho

I don't love Graveyard Keeper as much as Magic Pink does, but I thought it was pretty fun.

When Blizzard still thought Overwatch was an MMO they rigged up a “day job” (heroes were supposed to have secret identities back then) farming sim that was supposed to be accessible on mobile as well as being on the PC client.
I think about that farming sim that never was a lot.

Wylde Flowers art is weird but it does grow on you and by halfway through spring you probably won't even notice it. The game is amazing otherwise.
Fae Farm is way too expensive for what it ends up being. The gameplay systems are really good, even ground breaking for the genre but the town and people have no soul. every interaction is the same, you can't gift people and all romance quests end when you get married. your spouse literally ceases to exist.
Graveyard Keeper is superb but I really recommend grabbing the first 2 expansions. You can skip Better Call Soul if you want, it is fun but isn't as integral to the overall plot and doesn't really add a whole lot. It does add SOME tho.
Thanks for the info! I have some fun bucks from work I could flip over to the switch, maybe I'll have to pick something new up. Not a farming sim, but if anyone wants an easy, relaxing way to spend an evening or two, I just finished Alba, a Wilderness Adventure and it was a nice little story that I really enjoyed playing through.
Is a game where you farm vegetables AND animals, and then make them compete in dance battles. And its very enjoyable, not sure why it dissapeared from public discourse as fast as it did.
Yes, with a quick verbal "boom." You take a man's peko, you deny him his dab, all that is left is to rise up and tear down the walls of Jericho with a ".....not!" -TexiKen

Yes! Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin specifically has you slop out the outhouse for fertilizer!
Immortal Life and Everdream Valley don't, actually!
I don't recall Graveyard Keeper having fuckin'
Unless it was implied
YOU were not engaging in the Big F but you do set up others to so it's a grey area
plus it ends with you
Coral Island is absolutely amazingly pretty and the 1.0 release is just 2 weeks away so go look into it if you like to spread seed a lot.

Fae Farm
Sugar Shack
Sun Haven
Everdream Valley (soon so say the developers)
Dinkum
Coral Island (again, soon)
Gardenpaws
Farm Together
Roots of Pacha
Probably more!
edit: oops, My Time in Sandrock too

A new vampire farming game is coming soon! You play Dracula's child out to prove to him that you can coexist peacefully.
