The only anime I own physically is a copy of Final Fantasy Unlimited Disc 1. I don't even know why I have it or remember where I got it from.

What anime do y'all own, physically?
I have a very small collection:
-- Dragon Ball Z (seasons 1-3, ending with the Frieza saga)
-- Tenchi Universe
End. Of. List.
The items on my wishlist are:
-- Dirty Pair
-- Kimagure Orange Road
-- Legend of the Galactic Heroes (ahaha, this will never occur)
They're all in my basement I think but I have
- Slayers, Slayers Next, Slayers Try, and the OAVs. I never got Evolution or R.
- Record of Lodoss War
- Escaflowne
- Rurouni Kenshin
- Cowboy Bebop
- Gundam Wing and Endless Waltz
- 08th MS Team
You know, while I'm job searching, I really should take some time and digitize all of those DVDs.
Was Chainsaw Man on sale at all? It's maddening that it still has no inkling of getting a physical release...
I buy from Xbox's videos very occasionally, mainly when the physical release is outrageously pricy or not available for some reason. Chainsaw Man was $5 for the season, which seemed worthwhile even with a sub to a streaming service that carries it still.

Ancient Magus Bride. Back when Crunchy Roll actually sold anime on Steam, though I have a feeling that those will stop working in the future as well.
I buy physical media exclusively, because screw the fickle license holders and screw the enshitification of streaming platforms. It's more than a little frustrating when this anime thread is mostly spoilers for things I'll either never see or won't see for years, but it's worth it in the long run. And I've come to peace on falling all the way out of the loop when physical media goes away too.
Definitely an old-school anime fan as I was really into it in the mid-90s through early 2000s. I used to have about two-three times as much before I moved to Seattle in 2012. It was a painful decision, but need to be done.

Catching up on Dangers in my Heart, is the girl being some sort of actor on the side just a wish fulfillment trope that shows up a lot in these school romance anime to show she's so great or is there actually a big thing with japanese high schoolers working part time as actors?

my animu collection's kinda weird cos my older brother was always the one buying anime so i didn't really start building my personal collection until relatively recently (thanks, right stuf sales and rip, right stuf), my roommate also has a chunk of stuff that i don't really feel the need to double up on
there's a good amount of things in there i hadn't watched prior to buying, just like oh this looks neat or this has been on my to-watch list, but i would eventually like to own some more of my favorites on physical media

So, at AniMenagerie we've had a few actors pop up A LOT over our three years of co-watching anime (and other programming).
Lisa Ortiz is probably at the top of that Hall of Fame, but this past week we had another actor join that esteemed club.
He just keeps showing up! It's wild how many anime he did before finding real success!
But he got into the Hall of Fame club due to a one episode appearance on Babylon 5 we watched last week.
Shangri-La Frotnier contiunes to both be an excellent manga, and an excellent anime.
I also kinda want to do an effort writeup on people's responses to the recent GGC tournament arc, and the fact that the main character (mild spoilers)
Looses
in it. It's really interesting to see the reactions.
Four episodes is pretty good for a Seven Colossus fight, I think.
As far as the manga's tournament arc goes,
I mean, he got everything he wanted out of it - he faced off against arguably the best gamer in America and went 1-1-1 while deliberately drawing out matches so Oicazzo could finish the FPS final he got sitcommishly double-booked for, and without that motivation to spark his engine he crashed out in the triple tiebreaker.
That's a goddamn amazing showing especially considering he's good at video games but isn't professional-grade good at professional video games and doesn't want to be, and maybe that's drawing a ton of flak from the fanbase too?

It doesn't, at least for the OPs and EDs (I forget if there are insert songs in CSM S1, would have to be reminded to check them) but I wouldn't call that a Crunchyroll thing, specifically. Netflix isn't doing the song lyrics for Delicious in Dungeon, for example. There must be either some cost based consideration there (see Vtuber song covers that aren't coming with subs) or possibly some (dumb) professional subbing convention being honored.
I don't think I've ever owned anime in physical form.
Admittedly, I don't think I've owned that much in the way of movies or cartoons in physical form at all, in general. I had a few movies in VHS when I was a kid, I'm pretty sure? But generally I don't rewatch things much so it never seemed like a priority to get them physically just so they would occupy shelf space forever.
I re-watch and re-read plenty, so owning stuff is a safeguard that I'll be able to satisfy my nostalgia fueled cravings as much as I want.

This is your directorial debut. You've worked on titles like Jujutsu Kaisen. What attracts you to this project, and what kind of strengths do you bring to it?
Eri Osada: So I love The Flash from the DC series. When I took this job on, I thought maybe it's a good way to get a connection with the DC, so, later, I might get to direct the Flash anime. (laughs).
OHTANI: You like Suicide Squad, too, don't you?

In my experience, it's, seriously, because of licensing.
I have a bunch of physical anime from like a decade ago when I still would buy it. It's all in storage at the moment though, except my copy of Kino's Journey that I lent to a friend
I've got most of the older Ghibli stuff, the Cowboy Bebop movie (which my college roommate had to buy for me because I didn't realize it was rated R and didn't have any ID), some random other movies like Appleseed. A few random VHSes like Akira, and a collectors unsubbed VHS of Princess Mononoke. I think the only series I own is FLCL, which was 3 individual DVDs because that's how they rolled
I own a lot of "90s classics" (Trigun, Kenshin, Escaflowne, Bebop, FLCL, Ghibli Collection, etc.) on DVD, but all of those are bootlegs I bought in Chinatown. I bought the NGE boxset off a guy that wanted cash to buy Oxy back in college, but those DVDs are actually legit. Possibly stolen, but not pirated. All of those are "in storage" at my parent's place.
A couple years ago I re-bought Bebop and Champloo on Blu Ray during an Amazon Black Friday sale so that's the only physical anime I have in my apartment.
I'd probably own more physical anime if I was the type to get in the mood to watch media in general. It's incredibly rare for me to watch movies or shows of any type, which is why I'm still surprised I'm watching three different anime at once this season.

I'm not including my big collection of old bootleg HK DVDs here though
_Martial Master Asumi_ is done. Which is a shame, I was enjoying it, it was doing a good job of building up the plot, but nope, the plot just jumps straight to the ending (which was always going to be the ending), but this time with a "the final battle begins!" splash panel rather than actually seeing it play out.
_Cipher Academy_ ended a couple of weeks ago -- I'd not been reading it for a while because of too many characters to keep track of, but it seems to have had a decent run.
_Astro Baby_ is new, it might be good, it might not, hard to tell at this point. It has a weird mix of occasional "har har" gags combined with "now everyone will die" worldbuilding which is a bit offputting.
_Super Psychic Policeman Chojo_ feels like it's written for an entirely different sense of humour than the one I have -- I can tell where the jokes are meant to be, they just don't seem funny.
Separately, re: latest Akane-banashi (97)
is it just me, or does it feel like this is building up to an ending? The plot isn't over, but the progression in this chapter all felt somehow familiar from other times that an ending has been coming. I might just be imagining it, though.

I missed the "the end" when I read it yesterday. I thought it was just a weird abrupt timeskip, but it was actually a weird abrupt ending!

The arc's coming to an end, and we're getting a setup for lines to be drawn in the sand.
