The best thing about not going to the office anymore is that I don’t have to avoid “did you see that ludicrous display last night?”-type questions.

watching this Age of Samurai docudrama on Netflix and of course all but one of the historians are white men you know wear silk kimonos around the house and clumsily practice karate

they just have that look about them

    it's an entertaining show though

So is that like a polite way to say a bunch of neck beard, waifu pillow clutchers are being interviewed as experts of Japanese history and culture? If so, I'll remove it from my que.

I think that you can be an embarrassing weeaboo and a legitimate historian at the same time. It's probably pushing the LD50 for cringe in my case, and sounds like yours as well, but that shouldn't discredit their work.

Yeah there's embarrassing dudes in every history field, pretty much.

Military history is the worst for it, the types of dudes who write "we" about their subject's military victories and are just there for the big explosions. Neckbeardiest of the neckbeards.

Roman and Greek history has the "I'm a rich fuck" historians who went to the types of schools that taught latin and could afford to spend 15 years in an extremely competitive field before they finally got a teaching position.

Chinese history has a share of the Chinese expat Middle Kingdom-ers "lemme tell you about how China was better than your country in X year" types.

Japan has the katanaphile guys who took Japanese so they could get a Japanese girlfriend and instead ended up with a history degree.

American history has the lazy Americans who didn't wanna learn a foreign language to do history and still don't know any world history.

African historians are just happy when someone remembers they exist... Or they're black pan-African utopianists that actual Africans think are weirdos.

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

My aunt went and got food for everyone and then got home and realized she still had the 80 bucks in her pocket. They never collected payment. Now she’s having a moral crisis and almost in tears as she contemplates going back to pay.

Maybe, but yeah I think this is the first it’s been a film

I know they’ve been trying since the 90s, which was back before it was even a musical. Demi Moore was attached to play the Witch way back then.

Those Wicked books are pretty bad though

The first one was one of the first “Beloved children’s story gets revisionist treatment” gimmicks out there and is mostly okay but even it gets weird at the end and then the next three are just trash for the bin. Absolute rubbish.

Yeah, I read the first one after my wife finished it and when I went to pick up the second one I was told not to bother.

They’re leaning heavily into the MGM aesthetic (as does the play) so it makes a little sense with the original Glinda being pretty pallorous herself.

Fair enough but its much different from seats to a stage to real closeups like that

Once everyone has shifted to a fashion it becomes unfashionable. So demands Plasticus Surgeonus.

I do wonder a bit about hmmm

Shifting tastes and perceptions as the jet set chugs its way to hunger free thinness via ozempic, possibly shifting the perception of actors for their own looks (and need to be even further to that side of things?)

    @Neco

    It’s blueberries.

One cup of blueberries is only 70 calories and is a healthy, tasty addition to a bowl of oatmeal.

That’s 1 serving of plain quick oats made with water (150 calories), 1 tablespoon of acacia honey (60 calories), some cinnamon (negligible calories), 2 tablespoons of peanut butter (190 calories), 1 cup of defrosted frozen blueberries (70 calories), and 1 semi-large banana (120 calories). 590ish calories which is a lot but it was filling and tasty and healthy.
