whatever weird fund or group did a bunch of those jackoff christian commercials again this year, which I did not love

one of them was a series of people washing other people's feet, and included a cop doing the foot washing, like okay buddy 🙄🙄🙄

The asshole Evangelical owner of Hobby Lobby and the Koch brothers are the bagmen for that little enterprise.

really?? It was surprisingly tolerant for an evangelical outfit.

This is from last year's ads, but the underlying structure of the fund is still the same.

In Boston if someone flashes their lights or waves you thru an intersection this is a genuine invitation to go but the period of time you have to acknowledge the offer and go is perhaps the shortest I've seen anywhere.

You have roughly 500 ms before its assumed you're asleep at the wheel.

this feels related to the two very Boston behaviors of honking as soon as the light turns green and turning left before the cars going straight on the other side start moving

Left turns going first is an attempt to keep traffic moving instead of blocking a whole travel lane. Its often invited by oncoming traffic with a headlight flash while stopped if you have your blinker on. But even when not invited, its safe at most intersections, I've come to expect it, and accept it as an obviously beneficial traffic pattern.

Honking at the light is on a delay of like 2 whole seconds! I don't do it because I'd die before unnecessarily honking the car horn but hey! Get off your phone!

In all seriousness the last time I was at a bar with people I had someone just flat out touch me on the side of the neck/collarbone/trap area without any kind of provocation (why this area? I dunno). I had hardly talked to her.

I was also still fresh off the divorce, so I can only imagine the look I was giving her lmao

Every time the Jesus ad showed up my dad yelled loudly at the TV, "Fuck off Jesus!"

    Fucking evangelicals.

The commercial against Jewish hate I was happy with. Also that was my wife's company who made it.

Top commercial was Aubrey Plaza for Baja Blast.

also my chocolate chip cookies were a hit, as were the rival oatmeal chocolate chip cookies the neighbor kid baked

Turning on Path Tracing during your first car ride in Phantom Liberty was fucking wild (thanks @syndalis), because there were ephemeral moments where you popped out on the other side of the uncanny valley.

In a way it was kind of unsettling to just be in a world that only exists in a game. Even if it was only for a matter of frames.

Folks, the kind of straight guy who is offended or angry by a gay man hitting on them is not exactly enlightened and will have distorted views of gender and sexual orientation

They likely think all gay men are feminine, they perceive a come-on as a suggestion that they have that effeminate air in some way, and if the gay man in question is strongly masculine themselves, the straight man in question probably perceives them as a physical threat and the come-on as a sexual threat

There are straight men who feel emasculated and insulted by women hitting on them directly, or see it as a degradation of the social fabric that is built on traditional gender roles!

    Yea this is another one.

Like when there are stop signs one direction but not another.

And a person trying to be nice, stops when they shouldn't and tries to wave you through. Please don't! I appreciate the attempt to be nice but you are just creating a more dangerous and confusing scenario for everyone.

Yes, there are times you can be polite when driving - letting someone in when traffic starts to move at a light, those kinds of things, but in general the most polite thing you can do driving is always follow the rules of the road / right of way, signal, and most of all be predictable.

One time in Florida, Jacksonville area, I saw a car stop at a crosswalk for pedestrians who had right of way, and the car behind that one was like

fuck this why are they stopping I'm going around and gunning it

and subsequently attempted a murder by exiting their lane, crossing the double yellow line, and blowing thru an occupied crosswalk at 60 mph

Phoenix Arizona had the most road rage

Silicon Valley had the least predictable drivers of all time. Aggressive and distracted. Beautiful combination.

Florida was bad but it was predictably bad in that very slow reaction time way, plus lots of lifted trucks with the mufflers cut off that you could rely on to do whatever an asshole would do at any given moment.

The empty center of the country was mostly people who drove too fast all the time but handled it mostly fine, until they got to any kind of traffic control system at which point they did a lot of blowing through red lights and stop signs.

South Carolina had the worst drivers hands down across the board. Lord they were trying but there were not succeeding. I have never felt less safe.

theres no turn lane at the intersections in question, so the left turners are blocking a lane of travel until they can go, which in the case of bumper to bumper to bumper traffic is basically never, unless they take advantage of the times while the light is changing to squeeze thru

generally the area where the left turners are going is open so they're blocking the opposing traffic for just an instant vs the very long time they might otherwise block the lane they came from

The jesus ads are so infuriating. So much fucking money to launder their reputations when they could just fucking do decent things. So many resources, so many people could be fed/clothed/housed but no you gotta make sure to put out ads making sure to paper over all the horrible shit you want to do to other people.

Wife has a good theory about Silicon Valley/SF.

It has a huge immigrant population tied to the tech industry. Its basically a lot of folks from different countries and different rules of the road driving at once making it hard to have a coherent feel or set of rules.

At least that is how she feels after living there for a while.

The ads are one thing but apparently evangelicals are actively going after rock stations and converting them to christian rock stations one by one and it irks me far more than it probably should considering I haven't listened to the radio in like 15 years.
