Yes... building my armor around what weapons I'm using... I definitely do that >.>
Replaying MHW, I've gotten back to Iceborne and I really hope see some of these monsters make a comeback and finally get some custom weapon designs, I'm reliving my disappointment that Banbaro, I monster design I really like and think is rad as hell, has 0 unique weapon designs.

With the most egregious one being the Greatsword for Glavenus being just a generic design, when the whole point of the monster is that it's tail is a sword!
But yeah, so far in the previews, both the armors and weapons are gorgeous in Wilds. I'm confident we won't be seeing the ridiculous amount of bone weapons with a monster part slapped on it from World/IB again.

IIRC from what they've said, the lack of unique designs in world & IB was a budget issue. Net result of moving to a new engine and having to rebuild everything from scratch. It sucks, but it is what it is.

I assumed it was a technical thing, it's something that's always annoying but like I feel like it was more understandable (from a layman's POV) in World than IB, and in IB it is if anything even more egregious, in that there are multiple monsters, including brand new monsters, with absolutely 0 unique weapon designs. And if you told me this was also an issue of budget and time constraints I 100% would believe that. It's not something I'm like, mad at the dev team about, it's just something that disappointed me the first time around and I kind of just got fresh disappointment when re-discovering the fact after I'd forgotten. Like I said I'm kind of hoping some of the monsters in World that feel like they got the short end of the stick get to show up in Wilds with some more interesting weapon designs.
I feel like I recall hearing that the more limited number of monster skeletons/types, especially before IB and a lot of the monsters added over time was due to budgetary and time constraints as well working with the new engine.

The flood of content from coming out from Gamescom and now Pax has gotten me pumped about this game. It looks like SA has gotten a ton of changes that make it more mobile. I'm torn between whether I want LS or SA atm.
Read a reddit thread speculating about the release date. Apparently MHW came out around 5 months after they started showcasing weapons. MHR came out around 3 months after showcases. If MHW timeline holds true for Wilds, we may see it come out in February.

Good news, you can take two weapons into a hunt!
Hopping on to the Seikret is really smooth, it can also pick you up if you've been thrown to the ground by a monster attack.

It literally was budgetary & new engine constraints.
Previously monster hunter games where basically all running on the same engine. Which meant that they had a huge existing asset library to pull from, which in turn generally cut the workload down and left time (and budget) for new content.
World was a complete rebuild in a new engine. You can actually find early build versionss they've shown that had lagaricus, but they couldn't get it working properly due to the 3d terrain causing all kinds of clipping issues. Similar reasons why it was a very limited pool of monster skeletons.
Part of Wilds marketing has been showing off they've cracked these issues, what with us seeing Amphibians, Leviathans, Fanged Beasts, Temnocerans, all body types that previously weren't seen. (Okay, Rajang, but Doshaguma Looks to be a totally different body plan).
I already see myself exploring these lands in a very contemplative mood.
Hopefully more people are able to get in to the game, I still have several friends that jumped in to World and bounced off pretty hard, not even 2 hours in.
February!! Hype!!
Sorry for lack of post content, but I'm super happy we're not looking at a summer release. Hopefully we'll see a general demo soon too.
my hype meter is somewhat tempered after looking at the game price on steam and the hardware requirements. Looks like I'm also going to have to look into upgrading my PC...
I'm definitely upgrading to a 4070 Ti Super just for Wilds... I've seen it drop to around $650 a few times in the past few months, so now I know I need to pull the trigger before Feb.28th.
Oh yes, most succesful MH game to date, no doubt, but I do feel a lot of it was hype where a lot of people, like my friends, bought it and then did not like it.

Probably pretty isolated experience, given that I checked on steam and it has an very positive rating of 88%+ over over 250,000 reviews. I would say it's easily a universally beloved game, even though it is still definitely a Monster Hunter game and I'm not denying that can cause a fair amount of people to bounce off it. I'm glad that instead of sitting behind their positive reception they're still trying to make things better for new players.
If you wanted to count it this way World's expansion, Iceborne, could be considered the third best selling Monster Hunter game of all time. When an expansion does that well it is probably safe to assume the base game is stupid popular.
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.

I don't want this to sound mean, and I don't disagree that the series should do what it can to onboard new users (I was one of those people that never touched MH till World) but there's a pretty big gulf of difference between "all of the data we have available" and "my friends". as mentioned Iceborne sold massive numbers, way more than what an expansion would normally expect, which gives a pretty good perspective on the original game's reception as a whole. the idea that the game was just "hype" and "a lot" of people didn't actually like it doesn't really hold up when you look at the actual data
if your friends didn't like it that's totally valid but I don't think you can extrapolate that out to a wider audience that seems to be pretty into the modern version of the game

Using PS trophies as a tracker:
88% of people defeated the pack of Jagras, so let's take that as a base of who actually played the game.
Less than 65% of people reached 4-star assignments, and 53% beat Zorah.
The game still sold millions, so it's definitely a massive success and I hope that a larger percentage of people get into Wilds this time (I will definitely pester my friends to try again)
This has always been a thing with the series; people find it interesting but just bounce off hard because it's not exactly newbie-friendly. I like to watch a lot of MH content and there's always a large amount of people commenting something similar.
They didn't do a great job optimizing Dragon's Dogma 2 and this game has a lot more going on from what I can see in the previews.
I'm going to say that is most likely due to the DD2's team not optimizing the game for the engine. The MH team has already experience with the RE engine in Rise, and their monster routines are probably refined after many years.
From my experience playing the Gamescom demo on the PS5, the game only had trouble when transparencies were on screen, so it seemed much more like a GPU issue. And it was an early build of course.

Most people don't get very far in, much less roll credits on, most games they play. I'm shocked 53% beat Zorah. That's waaaay higher than I expected.
Achievement/trophy stats are always shockingly low to me, even the simplest stuff. They are not a good metric to judge popularity. The average person just does not give a shit.
Unlike me, where every unobtained achievement is a monument to my failure as a person.

I'm not judging popularity, I'm just saying that MH has a high rate of people playing it but not really engaging with it beyond the first few hours because they don't "click" with the game.
Complaints are usually things like "The monster takes way too long to kill (30+ minutes)" or "The weapons are too slow/boring", which sound like complaints they'd have because they don't really understand how to use the weapon i.e. just doing the basic attacks, so it feels monotonous/slow.
I think having them you answer a few questions to decide which weapon you'd like to use is a great step to guide people into vibing with the game.
I’ve officially preordered! Yay!
Just went for the base edition though. While I do want to throw more money at them to show my enthusiasm, $40 for cosmetics I’ll never use seems pretty steep…
Definitely going to be on the PS5 for me. I can't afford to buy a whole new computer to play it. Hopefully they optimize it well for PS5. I hate when devs choose to overdo it and make a chuggy game than making it at least stay at stable 30fps.
I can't start counting frames for a game that isn't coming out until February. That it's playable at all right now is so far ahead of what I would expect.

Apparently the TGS demo that's been shown, is running on PS5 and it seems it's hitting 60 fps? (I'm trying to not spoiler myself too much)
I wouldn't be surprised if the whole PC-specs debacle has been overblown, but it's still best to wait until we get a demo.
Yeah it seemed to be around 60ish fps, though not locked. And all they said was PS5, didn’t mention Pro, so hopefully that means it’ll be fairly smooth on XSX too. Plus there’s still time to optimize.
This game looks absolutely incredible, and I don’t mean just visually

OK, as a compromise between giving them more money and not feeling the super-deluxe edition, I bought the official logo hoodie from Capcom. At least this is a cosmetic I can use in real life!

optimization for this game is apparently gonna be a dumpster fire, just like DD2. i hope a 4070 is enough
