WEB SERVER IS RETURNING AN UNKNOWN ERROR
There is an unknown connection issue between Cloudflare and the origin web server. As a result, the web page can not be displayed.

Ray ID: 8a8da0ef2b02aabf
Your IP address: *removed unless this is pertinent*
Error reference number: 520
Cloudflare Location: Toronto
What happened?
The initial connection between Cloudflare's network and Vanilla timed out. As a result, the web page can not be displayed.

I'm getting this any time I try to click on a D&D thread, and on threads in this subforum.

I've waited a bit and am still getting them, so now I'm testing to see if I can post this thread or if it'll give the same error.

Honestly, I'm surprised I've even gotten this far.

I also noticed I was getting odd errors when I tried to react to posts.

First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

I am also encountering this problem. It prevents me from viewing or posting in any threads. Additionally the forum indexes are not updating.

I was having that issue whenever I tried viewing a thread, but it appears to be working now!

    Thank you, whoever fixed that.

Is anyone else seeing these exclamation points, or is it just me?

When I posted in this thread, it got replaced by a giant ass green checkmark.

EDIT: Yup, any time I post in a thread, the exclamation point gets replaced with a giant checkmark.

Hm, must be something that affects moderators and admins, then.

And the exclamation points were all giant-ass, and I put in a fix for that because I can override some styles, and now I've applied that override to the giant-ass green check, too. You may need to do a hard refresh to bust cache of the CSS file.

Yeah, the green check mark is tiny now. It appears whenever I post in a thread, but then gets replaced with the orange exclamation point when a new person that isn't a mod/admin posts.

That sounds like some kind of mod tool to inform you if a mod/admin has already viewed a thread or not, or if the thread is broken or has active reports. Like some kind of Vanilla feature that got enabled when Cloudflare started their maintenance.

@Ramius The exclamation points and checkmarks are still giant on mobile (iPhone 12 mini, Safari)

I think Cloudflare is just the middleman reporting the error condition here, but the actual errors were occurring on the Vanilla backend and must have been triggered by a feature push that included these checkmarks that we're seeing as moderators. I don't see anything related to these checkmarks in the release notes though, so idk.

Mobile fix does not look very straightforward, so I will need to look at it later, sorry.

Vanilla servers remain spotty today, though I guess reports about that don't serve much purpose right now.

I am not sure if this is the same issue or what but i am getting a ton of error messages when trying to post and when opening/changing threads. Whoops there was an unexpected error for the posting and the error page with the unhappy face when changing pages/threads. Android 14, latest stable version of Firefox, in case it matters.

I'm still seeing the "Something has gone wrong" error intermittently. Desktop Chrome in this case. I'll try to capture the network response, there's not much of value in the page itself:

Yup, along with overlaid errors periodically when clicking on agree/awesomes to posts. Site is definitely having a bad day.
