Who is debating?
Image stolen from AP News
The Vice Presidential candidates for the Democrats and the Republicans are debating this time, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Senator JD Vance of Ohio.
Who are the moderators?
The debate will be moderated by the outgoing “CBS Evening News” anchor Norah O’Donnell and “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan. However, they are not expected to fact check either candidate.
When and where to watch
The event will air at 9 p.m. ET for 90 minutes from a CBS studio in Manhattan, New York City. It will be live streamed on CBS and Paramount Plus. There will also likely be streams on YouTube and other locations.
Thread Rules
The general D&D political thread rules apply here. In addition:
* As this is a live watch thread, some amount of "livetweeting" will probably occur. Try to reference what is being reacted to, but we'll be a bit more lax about this, since this thread is made specifically for that purpose. Just be aware that conversations can be hard to follow if they don't have a reference to what is going on currently, as people may be viewing this asynchronously. Someone who is on a 15 minute or 1 hour delay should be able to follow along the thread.
* Try to keep discussion in this thread focused on the debate. If discussion starts getting into the weeds of, say, Israel-Palestine, Immigration, Voting rights, or general Election coverage, take it to the appropriate thread instead.
* The thread will remain open for a few days after the debate to tie up any immediate discussion (likely until the Saturday evening after the debate), but further discussion probably will be shunted to the general Election thread.

Also, had it on in the background as I was making dinner, and something caught my attention about the lack of allowing notes. Sure, you don't want people just reading off stump speeches, but it also makes it that much harder to fact check on the spot so massively favors bullshitting. But above and beyond that, even when you go to the post-debate fact check, it muddies the waters, because not having exact numbers in front of you makes you more imprecise, so when you have one person who's 'dishonest' because they slightly misquoted something or got a number a bit wrong, but the other side is just making shit up wholecloth, both sides still come out as equally dishonest.
Also, MSNBC was interviewing kids at some college watch party, and all the Rs were white dudes who said their most important things were the economy and lowering their tuition. My dude. Give me a fucking break.
You want your expectations low and the other sides high.
I bet we’re going to get a few Republican think pieces about how incredibly presidential Vance looks tonight.
Given the odds that Trump won’t last four years even if he is elected, I expect that the right wing pundits are going to want to push the idea of Vance as the great president in waiting.
Eh, if they go in too far on how good Vance did, that's going to piss off Trump. Fortunately Walz does not have the same problem.
They have to be a little careful. Pump up Vance too much and Trump will get jealous. He doesn’t share the spotlight.
