READ ME FIRST: Welcome to the Future State Planning Center

This new subforum’s purpose is to be a centralized place to plan out our future state.

…What?

Okay. The general idea is to break the whole task down into what are hopefully more manageable components.

In this very initial stage, we’re taking the brainstorming that kicked off in the announcement thread about the forum’s future and splitting that out into the various different things that we need to discuss. Each of those issues will get a dedicated thread. Each of those threads here is a set of questions that we need to have some kind of answer to in order to move forward and actually start the process of getting this whole thing built.

The hope is to emerge from that with
  • A plan;
  • Understanding of what that plan requires in terms of cost and resources;
  • A team capable of implementing that plan;
  • A coherent timeline for the various steps needed to carry said plan out.

At that point the actual process should hopefully kick off.

To that end, try to treat this part of the site as a working forum. The primary purpose of these threads is to figure out things we need to get figured out, most of which we need to figure out ASAP. To that end they are intended to stay tightly on topic as much as is reasonable. There’s going to be exceptions - people can’t talk about hosting options without talking about pricing, for instance - but working these issues out is really important and having as little stuff in the way as possible is equally important.

Memes and shitposting are going to happen, sure, because it’s the PA forums and that’s in most of our genomes at this point. If you’re absolutely set on doing that, you had best be also making actual substantive contributions to the threads as well. Again: working this stuff out is critical.

We’re also setting aside a general discussion thread in here as a combination chat/”whoops we actually missed a thing the other threads don’t cover” thread.

If there's something big enough that you feel it warrants its own in-depth discussion, let the mods know or mention it in the discussion thread.

People are also very, very strongly encouraged to check the various forumer beefs at the door for the time being.

    Repeating this here: We have just learned the forum contract expires on May 21st, 2025, not in December of that year like we had previously been told. So things are about 6 months more urgent.

    I've been asked to clarify who the Transition Team are and what their role is. They are simply the most active members of the Future State Planning Center who have organized independently to collaborate on financing, incorporating, and building the new forum home for us before this place shuts down. It is a group of people who come from multiple subforums, including G&T, D&D, and SE++ with differing viewpoints and a willingness to work together. Their decisions are made by consensus and not without extensive feedback, questions from their corner of the forums, and compromises based on input from all of you posting here. As the technical and policy needs of the new forums grows over the next few months, so will the Transition Team grow. They are not appointed by the moderators, but are working closely with the mod team to make this transition happen.
