Apparently CBS has picked up Jericho for a 7 episode run.
Some of the strangeness? CBS is claiming they want you to watch it live - don't DVR it, because that somehow contributed to it being cancelled in the first place.
Also, the whole cast is back abet with a slightly reduced budget.
I'm really *really* excited for this one, folks. Maybe the buzz generated will make it a proper, multi-season series.
They've mentioned this a couple of times in the BSG podcasts, they can get ratings from live broadcasts (not necessarily only if you have a neilson box) but whilst they can get some information from the number of times its recorded the advertisings don't care about those ratings as you can't easily predict who's watching it and people fast forward the adverts anyway.

For anyone wanting to catch up on Jericho, CBS is airing two episodes tonight. The first is a mid-season recap to catch you up on the crappy first half of the season. The second is the episode that kick-started the show into the awesome second half of the season.
CBS is on crack if they think I'll be starting now. That said I'm excited to see Jericho back on the air and PVR'ed both episodes last night to watch commercial free today.

You guys probably already know this, but just to be sure - they are just reruns right now. CBS is reairing several of the better episodes (basically the second half of the season) to drum up interest in the show. New episodes won't be coming until later in the year. The new episodes are scheduled as a "mid-season replacement", which means that they'll probably squeeze them in sometime in December and January, between sweeps months. If the ratings are good enough, they'll bring the series back for good, but if not, these will be the final episodes.
I'm not expecting it to come back for good, but at least getting a little closure to the story will be nice.
I'd be interested in knowing how they can track viewership without a neilson box.
Nielsen also uses handwritten journals, though those are only done for a week. They also now have a deal with TiVo, as well.
Journals only go out to people who also have boxes. I used to work for Nielsen, I know all about their statistical magicry. Also, how come CBS realizes when they have gold on their hands, but FOX manages to put out all these shows and cancels them before anyone can figure out that they're on?

Bah.
* Had the show received a bigger second-season order, a big part of the action would have been set in New York. As it is, the stories will again be largely confined to the title municipality.
Now that would've been interesting to see.

I don't know how well that would have gone over really.
It seems to me like if that were to occur it would suddenly just feel like a cop drama since NY was unscathed.
As for the new episodes, I watched the first of the new three just now and while it is possible to tell via the filming quality that there was a drop in budget that doesn't bother me as long as the writing is solid.
The thing I found most intriguing about the show was the subtle, background plot about the government and the 6 splinter groups all claiming leadership. I'm curious to see where that'll go now that there are really only 2 of the splinter groups left, I just don't like how the show has gone back to feeling "Too CBS." Meaning, towards the end of Season 1 Jericho was starting to look and feel ravaged as it really would given the national climate, but now it's back to everything is polished and heather is eating hamburgers out of a plastic basket in the bar.
I mean, really? I can explain the ground beef patty and even excuse the breaded bun... but wax paper and a plastic basket of fries? I know this seems like an idiotic thing to bitch about, but it sort of exemplifies the element of polish I didn't like about the series. Not everything has to be grim, gray death, but when it looks like *nothing* has changed it sort of pulls me away from the overall post-cataclysm setting and narrative.
I'm not sure how I feel yet, we'll see I guess. I keep reminding myself that the majority of what we're going to see in the 2nd season was probably already drafted out considering the cancellation came as a surprise to the production crew. So it's not like they are scrambling to carry on something intended to be over...
Post apocalyptic setting is always awesome...hope they explore more on that, I just finished first season (second half was like fifteen times better then the first).

I'm curious what they could've done in New York. Afterall, the show states that
a) the governments of Cheyanne and Columbus are fighting for control of the country
b) New York was saved. i can't imagine what would be going on in New York that is more exciting than whats currently going on in the show
also, i think the cliffhanger at the end of the 3rd episode of the second season was kind of unnecessary/silly. besides that plot twist, i'm pretty happy with the direction the new season is taking the show, especially now that Mayor Anderson finally grew a pair of balls and Eric stopped crying so much.

You know, where do these people get all the guns in the show, though? Is every little town in Kansas loaded with enough weapons to support an small army? I mean, Jericho has some excuses to where they get all the guns (and a tank), but New Bern?
I'd expect a large number of hunting rifles and shotguns, though, with a smaller number of handguns and no-to-almost no assault rifles in a given town. With scavenging and the general collapse of organization, New Bern might have picked up heavier weapons.
Will the new episodes be available for online streaming, as before, or do they really really want me to watch them live?
I am curious about this, and also about whether the new episodes will appear on any service similar to the iTunes store or Amazon Unbox. 'cuz if not then unfortunately I have to pass entirely until it hits DVD, which is surely even worse for ratings than if they had gone digital.

I have to say, I wasn't super impressed by the premiere.
For all the build-up in the New Bern War at the end of last season, it seemed like it ended way too quickly and neatly. I'm sure the reduced budget may have had something to do with that, but still. Good to see that Constantino will still be around to cause trouble however.
That said, it does set up some things that could be very interesting. The two faction vying for control of the government, and the idea that one of them is corrupted by the very people who caused this whole thing - very interesting indeed. And of course I love that Texas, who's citizens apparently stockpile weapons like no one's business, will be the deciding factor in who wins. That gave me a chuckle.
Not bad as a setup episode, but hopefully things will turn crazy from this point on, like it did at the end of season 1 last year.
I wonder if it will be on Live. I just watched the first season again a few weeks back and they only had 16 episodes up. I looked today and they have all 23. No second season so far.

I filled in one a couple weeks ago; made sure it listed all the Universal HD broadcasts of Jericho and the new Terminator Chronicles.
So...
They did a marathon on UHD last week in celebration of the new episode (which I have not yet seen, but am taping this weekend on it's re-broadcast).
I just finished the episode where they get the first windmill and 10 men are sent to New Bern, and not only do I (and the missus) love this show now, but I have a question:
Did anyone else keep referring to Sarah Mason (Hawkin's partner) as Black Katherine Heigl?
Because man, I kept saying shit like "Black Katherine Heigl, you're gonna get yours!" and "Woo, Black Katherine Heigl can snap a neck!" through all her appearances.
I don't know about you guys but i'm a little disappointed where this show has gone. In the beginning of the first season there were all those weird incidents such as old model Russian MIGs flying and that odd chinese shipment drop. On top of that, an EMP was set off? But with the second half of season one and now the beginning of this season, it seems to be going in a totally different direction.

I'm not getting too excited about this. I was excited before. Now I have no expectations other than they will hopefully provide some closure.

Probably not the best 2 to use, but...
I have never had a box, but I have filled out 4 journals over the last 10 years.
