it is so hard for me to understand how these billion dollar companies who need a hundred executives to sign off on everything and focus test to hell and back are just falling ass first into making games with no audience whatsoever to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars

at some point in the process somebody has to be asking people like, "do you want a god of war game with live service" and just getting back the inevitable "fuck no. why would you ever make that?"

I started as a two headed (solidarity with my goat friend) multi-armed strong winged amphibian, which is a funny "defect" in that you drink more water than normal and also you don't drink it, you pour it all over yourself to stay "wet". And now I have developed psychometry which lets me get the history/blueprints for things by touching them, and regeneration which lets me regrow limbs i've lost.

For whatever reason, this version of Qud rolled with a mad amount of turtles in the early enemy populations. I have delved into several dungeons/ruins at this point, and I have left a mountain of turtle carcasses behind me. Turtles suck to fight, for the obvious defensive reasons, it's been really funny to just chaw through entire hallways of clunky, high armor rating angry tortoises.

My goat pet is….very strong, very good boy that now has a level 10 poison stinger and multiple human arms in addition to his goat parts.

Just an fyi, level 10 poison sting does 10d2 damage per round for 12 rounds and doesn’t need to penetrate armor. Oh you have high armor? That’s fine, we can wait.

Finally getting around to tales of Kenzera: Zau. It’s a very charming very simple platformer with pretty good writing. Visuals are colourful but technically nothing amazing, reflecting a small studio

The main character reminds me of a kind of Disney main, like Aladdin or like the cocky naive kid who needs to learn and grow, that archetype. And it just kind of bums me out because Disney does nothing with its properties when it comes to games

Like they could make tonnes of these kinds of smaller scoped platformers using their classic properties and I feel like they would be pretty popular. I’d love a modern Aladdin or a Hercules side scroller. but I guess they’d rather just get the easy gaas money with Disney dream light or whatever it’s called

I want to shake them. Kratos is ALREADY IN FORTNITE! Fortnite with Kratos will be roughly 100 million times better than, "we made a game under the God of War brand, based on trends we're chasing (some of which are from Fortnite)."

What a lot of these companies seem unable to learn is that they can’t take their 150 million dollar per campaign game and just make it a gaas. Because that makes it a shitty version of a single player campaign and also means the gaas elements are undercooked because most of your developer time is spent on the campaign before the “endgame”

Instead of trying to make spiderman and then bolting a repeatable live service grind on the end, they should just start from a free to play model and release early builds of core gameplay to make sure it’s actually popular.

Instead they spend 150 million on a campaign, which inevitably sucks because it draws comparison to peer campaigns that are single player only, which will always feel better narratively and in terms of presentation because they don’t have to accomodate multiplayer and gaas elements.

Like they keep missing that the reason why genshin impact and all these gaas games are popular is because they are gaas games first and foremost, ground up, in every part of their structure.

They’re assuming they can just take the success of their single player games and then add on live service profits and longevity on the tail end. It’s completely backward and misunderstands the advantages and disadvantages of each type of game

It makes the development incredible top heavy.

It’s like, make a gaas game and then if it’s popular THEN do an expensive campaign as you go. Don’t do the expensive campaign first before you even know if people will play it. It’s essentially the worst of all worlds, they’re taking the worst aspects of both types of games and their development challenges and combining them

companies will never stop chasing live service because that's all people play anymore. the average number of games played by steam users last year was four. that's a lot of people only playing one game like CS2 and dota 2. everything is calcifying around live service mega games.

Or they do a pretty good campaign but the bolted on endgame sucks.
Which actually I feel like happens more often, at least in the games I've played. Because most of the good campaigns having and endless endgame afterward makes no sense, and makes the stuff you did earlier to beat the big bad or whatever pointless.

    Mortal Kombat's newest character.

1 - He is so oily and sweaty. It's beautiful.
2 - In one shot (1:14) he uses his abs to parry. Perfection.
3 - It's not a great voice actor and somehow that makes me love it more.

I think that's a very good Arnold impression. Cleary the over-the-top impression that everyone does, but still solid.

Sadly, same old MK1 jank animation. Conan basically has Tusk from Killer Instincts move set (who was definitely Conan clone), but they all look so much worse. For a game that's almost a dozen years newer, that really shouldn't be acceptable.

It's weird, all of the cutscene animations in MK games look great, but then the fighting starts and it all turns to shit. So weird they keep to this style instead of letting their animators make something beautiful.

So, the real stupid thing about this is, Elon Musk doesn't seem to realize that "editors" means video editors. Rather, he's insinuating that Asmongold's opinions are inauthentic because they're being bestowed on him by editors, as in newspaper editors. That's why he thinks this is a viable avenue of attack.

I always figured that there was some sort of fighting-game related constraint keeping Mortal Kombat looking really stiff, but like the animations for SF6 don't look nearly that doll-like.

The original Kingdom Come: Deliverance faced some criticism for being a very white game, something developer Warhorse Studios defended as reflecting the game's historical basis; creative director Daniel Vavra was similarly criticized for making numerous pro-Gamergate statements. That led to the game being held up by more reactionary elements of gaming fandom as not "woke," which resulted in some rumbling in 2024 when Warhorse said players "can expect a wide range of ethnicities and different characters" in the sequel. In recent days, there's been a more virulent backlash against claims that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 includes an "unskippable" same-sex love scene, prominent Black characters, and "lectures" about feminism.

Unfortunately, the social media landscape is even more toxic now than it was when the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance arrived, and with the sequel on the verge of launch it looks like Deep Silver is trying to head off the worst of the bad behavior before it happens. Predictably, that effort has sparked a backlash of its own:
