Oh I know, I was just talking out loud because I started learning how to jump rope and my legs are all achy and sore, and then I read other people who are beginning, all of whom are different body shapes and sizes, and they all complained about it so it's not a weight thing. It's more a "you never used these muscles like this before" thing

The thing about jumping rope is it is 1. Extremely efficient exercise and 2. will always suck
Muay Thai classes always have 6-12 minutes at the start and make you crave oblivion
I wish I could jump rope inside but I have no areas with ceilings that feel sufficiently high. It's fun and it's extremely fast at making you feel it.
Also I'm climbing back up to where I was the middle of last year in weights and feeling pretty good, getting back into Ring Fit and remaining shocked at how hard it is to do some of those resistance and bodyweight exercises still. That thing isn't joking around when you have it at higher difficulties. I want to get a pull-up assist so I can start working on those. I had a very brief period where I could manage a couple and since then it's felt impossible, so I figure maybe I can work up to it with assistance.
We're all in this together

Too fat to do the exercises that would allow me to get less fat so I can do the exercises
Okay well a lot of things about this post
1. Exercise is only maybe like 1/3 of a contributor to someone's physique, much bigger influences are genetics and substantially - food
2. Exercise is good for people of any size, for far more reasons than fat loss, and if you're not sure which you're able to do due to accessibility concerns you can work with a physiotherapist and/or a dietician to help get on the right track - but again, if you're only worried about your body shape or composition, what you eat has a far greater impact (but strength training is great for building your metabolism and often gets people closer to their idealized physique, and cardio can be amazing for heart health - even just adding a 15-30 minute walk a day can do loads)
Regarding and in general agreement with point 1, the current trend in understanding the relationship between exercise and weight is that it’s at least extremely challenging for most people to lose weight through exercise, and that exercise has a minimal effect on most people’s calorie expenditure. There’s a guy called Herman Pontzer who’s been one of the main proponents of this, called the Constrained Model of Total Energy Expenditure. I think that his book Burn is one of the most approachable and best put together books about how human metabolism works, put into layman’s speech.
One of the reasons I enjoy doing weightlifting is that it allows me to pursue goals that aren't as frustrating as weight loss. I wouldn't mind suddenly finding I have a shredded physique or anything but I've been the same weight for like a decade plus. Thanks to weights though now I can squat hundreds of pounds and lift heavy things easily.
I do wish I enjoyed cardio more, I'm thinking I may try a rowing machine to see if that's one I'm actually into. At least I do get out to walk the dog twice a day.
If you're gonna jump rope, do it on a softer surface than cement/asphalt. Preferably a firm anti-fatigue mat.
I have an anti fatigue mat from during the pandemic when I was trying to stand up more/turn my laptop and some milk crates into a standing desk. That might work.
Or I should just walk a few blocks over to the park and try to jump rope over there. They have that soft playground material and also a tennis court.

Oh man, I guess the first training session of the year is tomorrow.
I'm gonna grab my hinged brace and see what happens, my physio reckons I'm at the point I can train but not play in matches.
But nearly two weeks of eating my body weight in cheese and getting in an average of 4000 steps is definitely gonna make this be rougher than it needed to be

Exactly, losing weight is just one piece of exercise. I used to have a bad back, but strengthening those muscles, I've not had an issue in 15 years.

There’s a recent Kurzgesagt video that more or less summarizes the key points of the book:

Chopping wood.
I've spent about 35 minutes chopping up a dead tree from Helene for some firewood and I'm gassed. My whole body already hurts.
