With the blessing of Ctishman, Jrunder and I are going to be running Paxassins. Watch out for the application thread. Estimated time of application thread is JULY not June.
What is Paxassins?
-Paxassins is an opportunity for ninjas throughout the nation to test their masterful skill of stealth, deception and logic. A chosen few will be set loose on the PAX grounds, each given a target and a sacred paper watch. Withing the course of the three days the ninjas must kill and destroy their given targets. A kill is confirmed if a ninja rips their target's watch off, however if not fast enough their target may counter attack by ripping their enemies watch thus saving themselves and taking the kill for them self.
ok, at the risk of sounding like a n00b, refresh my memory, what's paxassins again?
People are assigned people to "kill" and as proof, you take their PAXassins watch with their target. So you keep killing people until either you are last man standing (Very unlikely everyone gets axed), or until end of weekend, when the winner is declared by who has the most "kills".
edit: HolyHesus, were you the short asian girl in last year's PAXsassins game? I remember you, you played mute when I was going around saying hi.
Yah, thats me. I don't think I am that short for an asian. Im 5'6". hehe. I remember you too. I get really into those games..
Faulty memory, I guess. Anyway, did you know we're running an assassins-like game at PAX this year, only moreso? I mean, we've got RPG elements, stats, a plot, teams, etc. It wouldn't be good for either game if we split the playerbase, but this thing's been in development since shortly after the last PAX.

I fully endorse this Patient Zero game as it has a massive number of allowable players. Paxassins is a much smaller game, though, so I don't really see it as dividing the playerbase (I believe last year was less than 10 players). I guess it depends on what kind of game people want to play. Large or small, simple or RPG elements, teams or solo. It doesn't have to be a competition between the two games however.
Yah I brought that up to Jrunder. He just said its a team base game. Doesn't have the same simplicity of paxassins which a lot of people look forward too.
Anywho, people have different preferences, but we got a trophy!!
edit: and when I heard there wasn't going to be a paxassins this year i was thinking "what is pax without the constant paranoia that someone is going to get you?"

- Don't Do This Shit
- No Goddamn Kung-Fu
Let me say this one more time. We play to have fun, and this
extends to your opponent as well as yourself. Don't punch someone
to take their watch, don't kick them in the mean bean machine,
armbar them or anything. Meld with the crowd, attain the proper
position and make your play. Simple as that.
This extends to the hunted as well. Don't elbow your attacker in
the jaw, spit in his face, or put into motion whatever dastardly
defense you had in mind. Once she gets her hand on your watch,
it's teh overs. This doesn't mean you can't spin around and run
if you think the person on your right is a ninja after the family
quartz, just that you shouldn't lash out at him/her. A "sup
ninja" will suffice to let them know that their clumsy attempts
at stealth have failed.
- No Goddamn Weapons
Just because this has come up, I'm making it explicit. A ninja
needs no weapon to make his kill. DON'T USE ONE. Don't bring it,
don't threaten your target or potential assassin or anyone with a
weapon. This means blades, firearms, sharp sticks, blunt sticks,
your swag bag, whatever. Don't use it. If you are trained in such
a way that your entire body is a weapon, waiting to be set loose
upon the unsuspecting world, see the No Goddamn Kung-Fu rule.
- Don't Break PAX Rules
Yeah, this one's simple. Read the rules on the first page of your
program and don't do any of the shit they tell you not to. It's a
party, and you're here to have fun. If you're not having fun
anymore, it's not worth playing.
This is from my rulebook last year, but I assume something similar'll be in place in '07. Counterkilling was also out, and players were restricted to passive resistance (e.g. running/twisting away). A failed attempt meant that the assassin had tipped his hand, and that the target would know who to watch out for.

I was thinking about PAXassins this year, but since I'm on the Enforcer crew, I'd consider that an unavoidable form of cheating. I can't work and play at the same time, and taking 6 hour windows out of my place in the game is an entirely unfair advantage, especially if I'm subconciously taking note of targets while I'm on shift.
I'm looking forward to this once again. Thanks for making this a possibility HolyHesus and jrunder. Will we see either of you on the battlefield again this year? Or are you both out for logistical purposes?

Just booze.
