Lets talk about the 60 gig ps3 $100 price drop and the new $600 80 gig ps3
They need a Ninja Gaiden (one that I haven't already played) to get me to come aboard, and even then it would be a tough sell, since I already have two new gen platforms and barely enough time for them.

Wow, that didn't take as long as I thought it was. $500 is still a lot, but I'd like to pick one up at some point.
this'll definitely be within reach by the time i get my end-of-year bonus, with a few games out i really want. aint gonna have one soon, but things are looking up for me.
Yeah, this isn't a surprise to me. It's almost an admission of guilt, a retraction. You just don't print retractions unless you absolutely have to, and the fact that Sony absolutely had to drop their price $100 before a year had passed since release doesn't bode well. There's definitely some top-notch games coming their way, but even with this drop I'm skeptical.
Outa be interesting to see what it prompts Microsoft to do. I'd like to get a Ps3 But 500 and still no games I really want just isn't gonna prompt me to.

Yeah.
I have to wonder if the industry will see this as a weakness instead of a benefit.

I'm such a cheapskate. I'm waiting for 300 dollars more to drop off the price. Even then I'm going to bitch that it's 200 and not 150.
Wow, if the PS3 drops to $500, and MS responds by dropping the 360 price... Damn, it'll be time I get a 360! Woo!
Yeah. If the 360 does the same thing, this will probably help the 360 more than the PS3 because 100 dollars of of 400 dollars is probably psychologically more significant to people than 100 dollars off of 600 dollars.
And if Nintendo responds by lowering the price of the Wii...people still won't be able to find them in stores!
i like how so many people are responding with renewed hopes of buying a 360 rather than a ps3 :P
hell, i'm in the same boat. with the recent news of an extended 3 year warranty, the 360 is looking might fine for me. but i wont buy it until i can get one for less than $300...so that might be awhile...

We're getting close to the holidays. I get the feeling people won't be able to abundantly find them until early next year. :O

Cue the 360 and Wii getting price cuts. Well, maybe not the Wii.
Yeah, I don't see the Wii dropping any time soon. I would guess that if it's going to happen, they'll drop it down to $199 sometime in 2008. But they may not even need to do that if it keeps selling so well.

Well... early PS3 adopters.. they paid $600, only to found out that the price would drop less than a year later, and that force feedback would be added back into the controllers. In their favor, however, they do get hardware-based backwards compatibility.

Nintendo's not stupid. The Wii is selling like hotcakes, and Nintendo is making a pretty profit off of every console sold. They'll keep the price up for probably... oh, at least another six months or so, and then you'll hear talks of a $50 cut.
But my bets are as long as people can't find them, Nintendo won't drop it.

I agree, spring 2008 at the earliest. It will continue to go like hotcakes well into the fall because of the mega releases. If next spring has a drought than who knows.

i understand the DS is still being sold at full price in Japan? man, hotcakes indeed.
At this point, the damage is already done. They'll have to lower it quite a bit under $500 to see any significant change in sales at this point.
Not to mention how there already was a $500 version that didn't exactly fly off the shelves. Sure, it wasn't as good, but I don't think a huge difference will be made.

You can find them, but they're still being sold at insane rates. And that's without the release of DQIX.
Man, it's funny, but I'd like to echo some other posts in here and say that while this doesn't make me want a PS3, it is making me consider getting a 360 if it drops to $300 :P Especially with that new warrantee on that common death problem.
Is Sigma out now? Or will it be by the time the price drops?
Because if so, I'm going to buy the fuck out of this. I guess $100 isn't really THAT big of a deal when the end result is still half a grand, but I was planning on picking one up when Sigma came out anyway. So all in all, good stuff for me.

Yeah, I JUST saw the thread between my post and your reply. That greatly increases my chances of getting a 360 for sure. Although I have to admit, I still wouldn't mind getting a PS3.

The price points of the Wii, 360 and PS3 will just remain stratified enough that no one will have to bother with a price cut or bundling of anything. Microsoft will likely see their new warrenty as the necessary price cut and assurance that PS3 is soundly trumped. Today's 360 warrenty announcement might as well have been in response to the PS3 drop announcement, there still isn't any real competition between the three consoles aside from who has the superior libraries and who is actually selling. This price cut might save the PS3 from total obscurity however. A little bit of pressure on the Elite.
While 599 is higher than 499 the half a grand mark is the psychological barrier. The console + games will still be well over this mark. I dont expect a huge surge of sales even if there is a price drop to 499. It has to be lower.
Plus Sonys main competitors can lower their console prices at their leisure because they arent making as huge a loss and have a much higher installed base.
nintendo doesnt need to drop the price, maybe a Wii+Mario Galaxy bundle? hell, at this point they can also add WiiSports for free, system and 2 games for $250? SCORE!

Totally missed that thread.
Awesome.
