I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry - Funny, but also has a message.
So yesterday was my birthday, finally turned 18. I figured, "why not go see a silly movie about two straight guys pretending to be gay, with two of my best friends?" I did. It turns out it really wasn't what I expected. I had figured there would be layers of homosexual stereotypes with no clear reason(and there were, for sure, but not overwhelming) and no "pro-gay" sort of feeling from the film.
However, there was. It's definitely a film that promotes gay marriage as a good thing, as well as equality between gays and straights. It's also fucking hilarious, too, much more so than your average popcorn summer comedy. I think the combination of Adam Sandler and Kevin James really worked well, even if they don't fuck (it's a travesty, I tell you!).
Anyone else have any additional thoughts on the film? I definitely recommend it.

I'm happy to hear this. it looked decently funny, but either way I am very glad there is a good message somewhere in there. I was somewhat worried it was just going to be mocking gay stereotypes.
What is this world coming to..? Seriously, not every rating on RT has been justified. A Scanner Darkly got a 66% or so and deserved far, far higher.
No, but generally you can assume it is somewhat telling of the film's quality. If a movie gets 50-60%, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about it, but 14% is pretty damn low.

besides "homosexicals" are there any annoying stupid "look at the cute kid!" 'jokes' in the movie?
Im not quite sure what you mean, but there are two kids in the movie (daughter and son to a main character) that are seen every now and then. The son is more into dance and theatre so every now and then Adam Sandler jokes about the kid possibly being gay.
I love how its ok for that absurdly racist portrayal of asians by Rob Schneider to be in the movie. Thats not why Im gonna go see it though.
Im not gonna see it because it looks like garbage, Kevin James stand-up was pretty funny. Adam Sandler can die. The premise is god damn retarded, also.

wow, that's harsh. what's so retarded about it? and why the sandler hate?
I can't stand schneider anymore either, but still...
to keep it simple I meant how often are they on screen.
The kids don't get much screentime.
And I'd say the movie does do a good job of not clinging to gay stereotypes and flamers when it comes to the jokes and laughs. It's overall positive.
Not on my favorite movie list or anything like that though.
Are you serious? Was there actually one gay character who was NOT a gay stereotype or flamer? I seriously can't think of a single one. I can though name the flamers:
Butterfly
Ving Rhame's Character.
Everyone at that ball/party.
I hated this movie. I hated the fact that it tried to preach acceptance and the whole "gay's are people to." but clung to stereotypes and outdated gay jokes. I felt like they got sixth graders to tell them their favorite gay jokes/situations and stuck them in the movie.
Worse, it just wasn't very funny. And I'm a huge Adam Sandler fan, but this had to be his worst movie yet.
I have one major question that's bugging me about the film. Anyone that has seen it, please answer me this: What is preventing Adam Sandler's character from being bisexual and he and Kevin James having an open marriage, thus allowing him to pursue sexual relations with Jessica Biel? As far as I can see from all the trailers, they act like you're either completely straight or completely gay, skipping bisexuals all together.
I'm probably unlikely to see the movie until it comes out on the movie channels on cable, as just hearing the geeks of doom review makes it sound very likely that I'll have wished I didn't pay to see the movie if I did see it in theaters.
Either way, this definitely looks pretty awful, imo, especially given that I don't care for either of the actors involved.
It is interesting that whatever group it was (I forget which one, one of the big homosexual groups) gave it their stamp of approval though, so I guess they felt it portrayed a positive message overall.

I have no desire to see the movie :P
Damn you, Sandler. Damn you!
I was laughing my ass off at that.
Looks like a classic.
took out her barrettes and her hair spilled out like rootbeer
sort of odd that he got paired with another capable comic, Patton Oswald, in a dreadful show.
Nothing, not a god damn thing.
I'm glad you enjoyed it tho.

it is a goddamn shame.
kevin james is a lot like seinfeld. similar humor, cleanish.

almost makes me not want to see it, because she is going to greatly distract me.
It's like a shircle, not a twiangle, which has corners. But a shircle.

It looks like a one note joke the entire time from what I've seen of it, and nothing that hasn't been done before

I was worried this was going to happen when Brokeback did so well.

Yes yes, I know, no money in it.

In fact, they should implement some sort of filter that only shows you the good reviews. "My favourite movie gets 100% ? Yay!"
But maybe I'll rent it just for you guys.
