So being plagued with dial-up for the time being my online gaming has of course gone to shit, so I'm looking for a fun, single player, diablo-esque type game. I'd prefer a PC title, and to be honest, the cheaper the better.

Second NoX. It's also abandonware, but I will discuss that no further without mod approval.
Titan Quest. Buy it. Its not just a Diablo Clone, it is Diablo, but with a different skin.
And great physics. At the end of every Titan Quest session I go back to the starter town and judge my characters improvement by how far I can send the lowbie monsters.
And as someone else mentioned... Diablo with a physics engine for great justice/hilarity. Charging into a group of monsters and watching 3-4 of them go flying off a cliff never gets old. You just need a decent gaming rig to play it on (it has some framerate issues).
Edit: Oh, and the expansion is mandatory. It adds so many things to the core gameplay (like a Diablo 2-style bank) that make the game just so much more fun, along with the new full act.
Oh lord yes Dungeon Siege 2 is good. Get the expansion, play through Normal difficulty to get some decent skill points and then it gets really fun customizing your party. It's a different experience than Diablo tho, simply because you get 4 - 6 characters.
Mythos is in beta right now. Go to their website to sign up for a chance to play. This game is made my the Hellgate guys and it's going to be free and awesome.
I'd highly suggest the demo of Titan Quest before getting it. I found the game fun for a while, but just got bored of it. It was missing the charm of Diablo, no random maps and I found most of the skills just lacking.
Seriously man, Nox. The Single player is great fun, and when you get your connection back and can talk a few friends into getting the game (it's abandonware, shouldn't be hard), you can play the Quest mode, which is a Gauntlet clone, or the deathmatch, capture the flag, and soccer modes.
I gotta reccommend Divine Divinity. It's not really a clone per-se, but the clicking combat, spells, skill trees, synergies, socketed items, etc. are all a complete rip off of Diablo 2, so that's a good thing. They even used the same font. The difference between the two games is that while Divinity isn't nearly as frantic as Diablo 2, it features a giant, hand crafted world (no random worlds here). Think of it like Diablo 2 in a Morrowind/Oblivion type world. Anything you drop on the ground will stay there, you'll come across dozens and dozens of quests, it's great. I got it for 9.99 at Target. There is a sequal, but I haven't played it.
If you get Divine Divinity, realize it's more of a spinoff than a straight clone. It plays more like an Ultima or something. Also, stick with it past the first town/dungeon. If I recall, you're locked in until you finish that dungeon, which kind of sucks. After that the world opens up wide and you can go wherever you want.

Right, I should have mentioned that. At first, you have to do the whole "rid the dungeon of the evil" routine, basically something ripped from D2 (as if enough hasn't been ripped from that game), but then after you do that the world opens up like you said.
Also, I heard a rumor about how the ex-Blizzard North guys have a working version of an MMO that plays just like D2. Imagine, an actual MMO in the style of D2. They plan to actually release it from what I know.

Yes, those guys. The network guy here said he read an article a couple weeks ago about how they have an MMO game in the vein of D2, and they all play it around the office, and they said it's fun as hell and they want to release it as a full game. I should see if he can give me a link

I'll 2nd this.
I did the exact same thing... There's something about it that doesn't feel right... I don't know what it is.
It never ends, you can upgrade gear, and items have sockets, you get a pet < dog or cat> that you can feed fish to and change it into different monsters to fight along with you. You can also fish in dungeons and while fishing you can load up your pet with all unwanted gear and send it to town to sell your stuff and return with monies
You can buy it online or in a store both for 20 bucks and its actually a really fun game.
Oh, and it's sort of an MMO, I guess. It's certainly worth a try. It's pretty damn funny, if nothing else. I actually put quite a few hours into it when I wasn't playing WoW.
Titan quest is fun for about 20 hours... Then it does just go downhill from there as it gets really repetitive. I mean, eventually for me, it became like Gauntlet where I can kill the enemies in 2 hits and they would just keep coming in rabbles. Oh well. It was fun while I had it.
I'll throw in another vote for Titan Quest. I like it a lot better than Diablo 2; it's slower paced, it's more atmospherical, and it has a great, fairly unique design.
It also generally improves on Diablo 2's gameplay in most aspects, though it's arguably not as deep (it doesn't have a horadric cube equivalent, or runewords or anything like that), but I like it that way, personally. It doesn't have random levels, but I really don't think it makes much of a difference beyond a psychological level. The game is a lot larger and flavourful than Diablo 2, so that makes up for it, in my opinion.

I was on a quest for a good Diablo clone a few years ago and tried quite a few different games. One of the ones I didn't see mentioned much here that I enjoyed quite a bit was Sacred. It's 3D(ish) and has an absolutely massive world, mounts, and some other things that set it apart from some of the other Diablo clones. If you're interested in it I'd recommend getting the Plus update and the Underworld expansion pack as well (or the Gold version) and of course patching all the way up.
I'd also easily recommend the first Divine Divinity game.

This cave leads to the inhospitable surface of the planet. There is nothing for you to see there.

Awesome game, only thing missing is multiplayer.

I'm in the beta at the moment, it's looking pretty damn nice. They're iterating pretty heavily on the first section of game before expanding the content out, so there's a fairly rapid pace to fixing bugs and adding new features.
Fate is great fun, but installing it and dealing with the fact that you'll have to ignore the cries from your spyware detector that pop up forever more is a sticky point.
Divine Divinity is amazing and everyone should play it at least once.
Titan Quest is fun, but the item system blows, in my opinion. There are no randomly generated rare items and the set/unique items are really the only things worth picking up. Play the normal game and you'll probably never find unique items you can use. Mod the game so the drop more often, and suddenly they're the only thing worth picking up. It's very pretty though.

Worth a play just for the 'minstrel' in town. That theme song rocks.
