Oogie Boogies: Do you believe in them?

Sara LynnSara Lynn I can handle myself.Registered User regular
edited July 2007 in Social Entropy++
Why do I mean by oogie boogies? Well, anything -- aside from religion -- that isn't scientifically proven. I'll give you some examples, and my thoughts. I thought it'd make an interesting topic, so suck it, fags.

Ghosts
I believe in them, though I've never experienced them myself. I've been in supposed haunted places before, and it's hard to tell whether I felt "something" or my imagination tricked my body into thinking "something." I don't trust much that I see on TV.. though, I think some of those old hospitals/jails could totally be haunted. We find pennies all over my house in weird places, every once and awhile, which once belonged to my grandmother and we're pretty convinced she's just putting them places. Doesn't happen very often though.

Aliens
I dunno if they're little grey/green men, but it would make sense if they existed. Is the government covering it up? I doubt it. With every secret there is someone that's dying to tell it. I just hope that if they do exist, they're not sleeping under our feet and waiting to awaken and eat us. The universe is just too big for them not to be real. I had a friend who was convinced she was abducted once.. didn't believe her, obviously.

Fortune Telling
I have tarot cards, and am known to be semi-accurate with them. I do it for fun, I don't think I'm particularly psychic. I think for me it's all coincidence and luck. My mom swears by psychics, and always wants to go to one.. but I don't know. I think Sylvia Brown is real, even if she is the most Apatheteic Psychic Ever. I think no matter what you say will happen, or did happen, people will find a way for it to make sense and be true. If you really want to believe what a psychic is telling you, you will.. so. Unless they tell you what color socks your grandpa wore for 60 years, I don't know if they're worth much salt.

Hypnotism
We've all seen the videos of about a dozen people onstage, being hypnotized at once. The guy makes them dance, pretend to have sex with chairs, ect. Is this possible? Ehh.. I don't know. If it is, I'm sure the vast majority of people can't be hypnotized. There is some science behind it, and Mythbusters proved it's at least plausible that it helps your memory. Still, I dunno if someone could put me to sleep and make me pretend I'm a dog. We used to pretend we could do it as kids, same with..

Ouji Boards
In any group of friends or people, there is at the very least one person who can't be trusted to just sit there and wait. I've played with them many times, and my friends will get truly freaked out.. and I'll admit, sometimes it can be weird, but I'm not sure. It's hard to prove, someone is always gonna want to move it. There's only been once where I've thought something actually happend, which made my friend (who is such a realist with everything) get upset and throw up. Actually, he threw it in the sink and threw up ON it.

Superstitions
Are you superstitious? Do you believe in bad luck when you break a mirror, ect? I do, though it doesn't really come up that often. If I spill salt I throw it over my shoulder, though I like cats too much to stay away from black cats. I don't think it has anything to do with luck, but hey.. I still do the 'knock on wood' thing all the time.

I can't think of anymore. SO TELL ME. Do you believe in any of these, or do you believe in anything in particular that a lot of people think is a bunch of bunk? (pagan magic, nostradomus (sp) being right, ect ect)

I had tarot cards when I was little, then my mom's really Catholic sister saw them and I had to give them away

My mom went to see a psychic when she and my dad were first married and she told her that my mother and father would divorce within two years and she would never have children

They'll be married 24 years next week and obviously I exist so I guess she was a phony

    Ghosts
    no... haha what

    Aliens
there might be life on other planets, through the trillions and billions and infinite amount of planets there are, it's a little silly to think earth is the only one with life

but we're never going to meet them

    Fortune Telling
    a nope.

    Hypnotism
people are easily susceptible to influence. But in the way it's presented, no

    Ouji Boards
    Nope. Someone moves it

Honestly, John Dies at the End is one of the freakiest things I've ever read.
Since I've read it, I've been thinking more about how, maybe, things aren't exactly what they seem.
EDIT: I also think that there are aliens out there somewhere.

Ghosts: I have actually gone "ghost hunting" or whatever you want to call it. I've felt some weird shit sometimes. I have also picked up some EVPs that are extremely interesting and have creeped most people who have heard them out.

Tarot Cards: Owned a deck, did one spread which was extremely accurate on my girlfriend at the time, and never touched them again.
