"Anonymous" is a bunch of bored teenage attention whores. People make death-threats over MySpace Drama, and certainly "Anonymous"is not the first group of organized trolls. They're not even the first group to troll Second Life. (And don't get me started on the pretentous silliness that is SL... but I digress.)
Fox 11 is stupid for dong this report for several reason. Their journalism is obviously lacking, but more importantly, they are giving "Anonymous" they attention they want.

As much as I dislike sensationalist reporting (don't get me started on that DS piece) or Fox news in general, I never understood what is so funny about internet detective pranks.

I think that Fox news is, as usual, completely missing the point. There's no organization called Anonymous. It's not a group, it's not a state of mind. It's an anthropomorphism of an internet phenomenon. I post occasionally on 4chan. Have I ever bothered putting in a username? No, because it's not worth the extra 5 seconds, because nothing on 4chan lasts for more than a day or so. Does that make me anonymous? Yes. Does it make me Anonymous? Absolutely not.
