The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Take-Two is reducing its fiscal 2007 guidance primarily to reflect the movement of the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007 to fiscal 2008, due to additional development time required to complete the title. The title is now planned for release in the Company’s second quarter of fiscal 2008.
Certain elements of development proved to be more time-intensive than expected, especially given the commitment for a simultaneous release on two very different platforms. We all recognize that perfecting the game is vital and I can assure everyone it will be worth the wait. We owe it to the game’s millions of fans, to our dedicated development team, and to our shareholders to make sure that Grand Theft Auto IV is a groundbreaking gaming experience that takes maximum advantage of next generation technology.â€
Sam Houser, Founder and Executive Producer of Rockstar Games, added, "The new consoles are allowing us to create the Grand Theft Auto game we always dreamed about. Every aspect of the game and its design has been completely transformed. The game is huge and is pushing the hardware platforms to their absolute limits. The top engineers from Sony and Microsoft are working closely with the team in Edinburgh right now, helping us to fully leverage the power of both platforms. As always, our goal is to surpass even the wildest expectations of the game’s fans, and to create the ultimate high definition video game experience."
Good. Give the smaller titles a chance to sell something. Honestly, I hope some more stuff is delayed, at least out of October/November.
FUCK the smaller titles. I've waited for this game every single day since San Andreas and October was a long enough wait. I want the fucking game in October. This best be a really shitty joke.

It's upsetting, until i realize that I'll actually have time to now play Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Beautiful Katamari, Guitar Hero 3, Assassin's Creed.....................

As I mentioned in our story, the game is/was to be a major touch stone for this holiday season, so it will be interesting to see how Microsoft and Sony adjust their course in Q4 to make up for the lack of this game on retail shelves. But really, there is a lot of shit falling apart at Take Two, so while unexpected, this can't be seen as too surprising.

Didn't a reporter somewhere just say that Take2 is, in his words, "A clusterfuck"?

Sweet, one less game I have to buy this year and something to look forward to next year. I think I'll be fine with getting Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, and Guitar Hero 3 in October alone.
But yea, things are a bit wacky. Also, it makes me WONDER if there are some back room meetings going on as peopel scramble to MAKE SURE GTA does not get saddled with an AO rating, as you know people are waiting with those flaming arrows ALA Duke Boys for as soon as the game is in a position to be labled. You have to think that maybe this time will be spent in revisting content to make sure it does not push too many envelopes.
No, seriously, this is great news. There are enough amazing games coming out this fall already, plus GTA is guaranteed to sell approximately eleventy-fuckillion copies whenever it's released so it's not like the sales will be hurt significantly.
Truth is half the games I plan on buying this fall could get delayed and I would still be broke. I really am not that upset about this. There is so much awesome coming I am feeling a little overwhelmed.
Mass Effect, Halo 3, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Rock Band...
I think we're going to be ok .
In fact, if anything it's a good thing. I mean, it'll carry the holiday momentum instead of having a gaping hole of nothing for the early spring -- in terms of blockbusters that is.

Officials from major publisher Take-Two have announced that the company's heavily anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV has been delayed from October of this year to now be released in the second quarter of fiscal 2008.
Previously expected to ship as one of the major touchstone holiday titles for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, this delay now places the game's release sometime between February and April of 2008.
Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick pegged the delay on its multi-platform release, saying, "Certain elements of development proved to be more time-intensive than expected, especially given the commitment for a simultaneous release on two very different platforms.â€
Zelnick added that “perfecting the game is vital†and that the company is working to “make sure that Grand Theft Auto IV is a groundbreaking gaming experience that takes maximum advantage of next generation technology.â€
Take-Two CEO Ben Feder said the company was "very disappointed" that the company's fiscal 2007 guidance would have to be reduced after previous reaffirmation, but said that "other than a matter of timing, the movement of Grand Theft Auto IV does not compromise Take-Two in any way."
With BioShock, Carnival Games, Table Tennis, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (GOTY Edition), NBA 2K8 anad NHL 2K8 still on the docket for fiscal 2007, Feder said that the company was in "sound financial condition and have a great product line up."
Gamasutra will have more from a Take-Two trading update announcing this change in the near future.
I wonder if the delay is because of the 360 version or the ps3 version.
I'd guess it would be a combination of both. Developing a game like GTA in a multiplatform environment? Same launch day and everything? uhg. Must be a nightmare.

OK, let's go out on the "fairy tale" limb here.
Thinking about your post... What if this manages to smash apart the entire "holiday crunch" cycle? What if, in an imaginary land, this game could manage to re-arrange how people buy games? All of the sudden, students purchase games in the summer to play during break, etc etc...

Then I realized that Novembermas will still be killing me. Plus, Halo.
Yes, this news actually makes me happy.
Seriously, listen to their E3 presentation again... Ouch.

It's not likely to happen, but one can imagine.
Exactly. There's already more cool games than I can handle for this holiday.
