Finally, it's been confirmed that the Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console will hit store shelves in September with an ERP of $399.99 (U.S.). Featuring a "Spartan green-and-gold finish," the console will include a matching Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, Xbox 360 20GB hard drive, Xbox 360 Headset, and an Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit.
I personally would've liked something a bit more, but it's certainly nice to see the price drop.
Also: does the Special Edition Halo one not have HDMI?
edited for me being an idiot:
"It will include an HDMI-capable system, a wireless controller, a headset, a 20GB hard drive, and a play-and-charge kit. Halo 3 will be sold separately."

Awesome. Now I can go out upgrade from my Premium to the Elite.
I feel the same way.
Vacation starts this week for me and, sadly, I have to wait about a week before I actually get to go on vacation.
I am a man of faith - things happen for a reason.
Eh, not really awesome. The first round of price drops for the PS2 and Xbox were $100, so it's really hard to get excited about this. Especially since the Elite and Core got such pathetic cuts.
This'll help the 360's sales I'm sure, but it's a bit of a letdown we didn't get more.
it will be interesting to see what kind of price drop it gets in Canada. Our dollar is more or less equal to yours now, yet the 360 Premium is still selling for $500 here in Canada, which now works out to about $95 more than we should be paying for it, if compared to the US dollar.
When the PS3 "Price drop" hit, the price in Canada was slashed from $660 to $550, I'm hoping we see something similar here.
I know that in the US you've been paying $400 for the premium, and are happy to see it drop at all. Let it be known, I will be *very* happy to pay $400 for a 360.
Interesting... that's tomorrow. We'll see I guess, most of the ads don't list the drop till Sunday, though I find it highly unlikely that MS would officially announce a price drop more than 24-36 hours in advance, it's essentially saying "Hey! ...don't buy our product this week."
I want to get the Halo one.. but it is kind of ugly. Especially compared to an Elite. But it comes with wireless headset and play and charge kit and stuff and HDMI... Elite is black and had a 6x bigger HDD and is 50 more.. hmm...

That's because the inserts run each Sunday, and I'll bet Microsoft told them to not announce the price drop in them in advance. I'm sure you could go into Best Buy tomorrow and buy a 360 at the new price.
I don't think it would be a wise move to drop it another $50, considering the boost they're gonna get in sales just from games, alone. I know that's why I was considering buying one at the current price because of their holiday line-up. It is surprising, and welcome, that they even lowered it at all before the end of the year.

The Halo 360 only comes with a Halo-themed wired headset, not the wireless one.
I actually like the way the Halo one looks, although I'm apparently in the minority of the entire Internets. Given that it comes with a Play & Charge kit (worth $20), I might be tempted to spend the extra $30 for the Halo look and the HDMI port if I were really into Halo, but I'm not. I'm fine with my Core.

doesn't come with the wireless headset, that was a mistake that Bungie have been trying to apllogise for. It comes with a Halo 3 wired headset, but not the wireless one.
edit: Lunker'd.
Also, i want one of those, if they sold them over here i'd take my console back and ask for a refund (it's on its way out again, i fear), rather than just a replacement, then use the money for a Halo 360. But they don't seem to want to sell them over here.
The wireless headset is buggy as hell, anyway. At least, it was for me and my two friends. We ended up using the wired ones because of various interferences issues.
Oh yeah, and for anyone who's gonna buy one -- don't forget that Circuit City apparently will have Table Tennis packed into the Premiums for free next week. It's not much, but hey, free game, right?

I love the way the Halo 360 looks. If I weren't buying a 360 tomorrow, I'd definitely get it.
Nice, finally Canadian customers get a break. +1 for Microsoft.
I have to admit im getting tempted by the 360.. I already have a Wii , PS2 and DS tough and i'm worried about the infamous 3 rings of death...

MS should have just sucked it up and dropped teh core to $250. I mean, really, come on.
I wish they would have dropped the Core all together, but o well, I just really dislike the lack of Hard drive in the core.
I'm really interested in two statistics:
The percentage of core systems sold to elite and premiums
and
the amount of individual hard drives sold.
Personally, if the percentage is low enough, fuck the whole "can't require a hard drive" ultimatum and let devs choose. I doubt many core owners don't eventually pick up the hard drive.

Call of Duty 4 reportedly will require the Hard Drive.

I hope so, because I hope it's a trend that continues. Microsoft should be looking at how many cores are on live and have a hard drive attached.

They might not have wanted to force a price drop on the Wii. This way, their price drop probably won't be matched for a while by Nintendo.
MS dropping the Core to $250 would most definitely have no forced Wii to drop in price. It's going to be selling out through the end of the year at $250.

This makes me happy because I was going to buy an elite at the end of the month anyways for the HDMI, and now I can save at least a couple of bucks.

Looks like I'm getting an xbox360 for some sweet Mass Effect lovin'.
$100 off in canada
::shakes fist::
And I don't even really like Halo.
I just recently exchanged my 360 (red rings and such), and it would have been nice to pick up a free game with it.
I'm going to drive up to Washington and spit on Microsoft's headquarters for this. That'll teach them!

most places will price match if its in the last two weeks.

3 year warranty, new heatsinks, hardware revision, etc, etc.
