They should advertise Xbox Live Arcade games more on TV if they want to get more of the casual types.

I agree but they also need more Casual games on XBLA, I mean there's a good portion but they really do need more because I still think that the 360 is not a casual gaming machine.
I don't know... If casual gamers can't appreciate gems like Bomberman and Carcasonne then I think they need to find another hobby. I see titles like UNO as a stepping stone to the diverse array of easy to learn titles that XBLA has to offer.

yeah, but who who isn't someone who reads gaming websites knows that the 360 has Uno?

The price drop of all 360 models (and the massive amounts of AAA titles coming out) have convinced me that I'll be buying a 360 soon. But I have a question to ask of you fellow PA'ers: Is the Elite REALLY worth the extra 100 dollars? I've heard that all that really amounts to is a bigger hard drive. That doesn't get me all hot and bothered to spend that extra cash I could be using on a game or a XBL subscription.

if you have a 1080p tv that can only do 1080p over hdmi its probably worth it, if you have a 1080p that can do it over component, or just a 720p its not

Not unless you really really really care about HDMI or the color black, I think it is not worth it.

It comes with a 120 gig HD vs a 20 gig GD, and HDMI support. If thats worth the extra 80 dollars to you then go for it, if not the Premium is for you.

This following is strictly for HD-DVD movies:
If you want HDMI capable TV/Receiver that outputs at 1080p but not through VGA, I suppose there's a benefit outside of the HD so you won't be limited.

Otherwise component/VGA is fine for all the games to output at 720p/1080p.

My TV is a 23 inch Samsung LCD. It says it's HDMI capable as well. I've seen an 360 hooked up to my TV and I think it was running 720p with HD cables (maybe). Is HDMI better?

EDIT: Sorry about the questions/getting off topic, but this debate over which one to get has been killing me. Money isn't really that big of an issue as I can probably net $100.00 a week @ the restaurant I'm working at (only 2 nights during college, when I'd be saving for the console).

theres pretty much zero difference between hdmi running 720p and component or vga running 720p

Well, looks like I'm saving up for a 360 now rather than later.

But I'm still cancelling my Halo 3 preorder. I don't need to drop $100 on some goddamn fancy package with extras for it.

Well...you could just order the regular edition game like I did. Don't get me wrong...Collector Edition versions are cool...I'm just not a huge collector of stuff like that. All I care about is the game itself.

Is the elite less prone to RRoDing? Didn't they go and add another heat sink and a bunch of thermogrease to help the overheating problem?

Llama did a pretty good write-up about what they found when they took apart a 360 Elite. It's pretty good read. I'm not sure about the RRoD issue and whether they are less prone to it.

Since the price in Canada is much more aligned I'm actually thinking about getting a 360 now. The only thing is that the main TV in my room where I play games is VERY old. It has to warm up for like 20 minutes before the bottom half of the TV doesn't completely stretch the picture, it also uses a dial to change channels.

I do have my monitor though, a Dell 2405FPW that seems to have a lot of possible video inputs of which I know nothing about (D-Sub, S-Video, Composite, Component, DVI-D), would this play a 360 with some decent quality and would I easily be able to plug in some speakers straight into the 360?

That's just the thing. I won't need to pre-order the regular edition.

    Or the "special edition".

I'd have to pre-order the Legendary edition, but thinking about it, I'd much rather have the money from that go towards the 360 instead. So now it's time to start budgeting myself.

Abolutely, yes. Err, I don't know about the speaker issue, but you could always run a line-in to your computer for sounds. I mean, that's probably not the best way, but it would work. As far as the monitor, it will work beautifully for the 360. As far as input, I think Component would be the way to go.

Thanks! Been poking around some and found that a lot of other people are pretty impressed with component into the 2405FPW, some have suggested VGA cables for a slightly better image but there has been complaints of washed out colours when doing so.

Futureshop is already doing the price drop but so far none of the other big stores are, Bestbuy/Zellers/Walmart.

    edit: Boughted!
Now I need to figure out how to get a setup working for sound/speakers. I currently have very basic stereo speakers with a single plug into my mobo. What options do I have?

Hmm...now that Premiums are CONFIRMED to have HDMI in them...

I'm thinking of skipping the Elite and going with a Premium, cheap HDMI cord and throwing the rest of the money toward a wireless bridge...

Is the Elite's HD worth it?

Only if you really think you want to download a lot of movies, content, etc. I was hoping I could get one for all the Halo 3 films I wanted to save but since they're limiting it to 100 save items per profile, might as well get me the 20GB H3 edition.

return the component and get the VGA. you cant upscale dvds over component, nor watch HD-DVDs at 1080p or other copy protected stuff over it either.

also the dell 24" dont seem to do 1080 correctly over component and show an image on 1:1: that doesnt touch the sides

You can upscale DVDs via component just not to 1080P IIRC.

Anyone know anything about price drops in other regions most notably Australia which would probably be included in any 'Europe' price drop or have any ideas??

Well, I may very well be wrong, I shall investigate.

Out of curiosity, has anyone here watched upscaled DVDs in 1080P on a 360, does it look any good?

I've actually got an upscaling Oppo DVD player. If the 360 does this as well, I'd like to compare.
Of course, most of my DVDs are old zombie movies and BBC shows. So unless the 360 can make that "camera-eating flame" disappear out of "I, Claudius" I don't know that I'll notice.
