Forbes is reporting that Electronics Arts has raised its holding of voting shares in Ubisoft to 24.86 percent, and owns 15.37 percent of its capital after exceeding the 20 percent of votes threshold on Friday.

In addition, Electronic Arts Nederland now owns 6.99 million shares, which accounts for 13.98 votes. EA has not acquired any new shares of this type since August 3, 2005.

EA has commented that they reserve the right to raise its stake in Ubisoft, depending on market conditions, over the next year. EA currently has no plans to seek to nominate board members, but it’s a possibility if there are any major changes in Ubisoft’s situation.

A hostile takeover could be impending for Ubisoft in the near future. We’ll keep you updated.
Fuck you, EA.

I honestly don't think that's the case. EA just doesn't like it when OTHER people have money. Otherwise they'd produce higher quality games so they could make more money in the long run.

Hey, that'd be awesome, we could get things like Prince of Persia 2007.

I'm not inherently against big business or mergers.

But there's no question EA would rather destroy competition through business wrangling rather than letting their games speak for themselves.

    So fuck 'em.

Maybe EA wants a piece of the newly announced "Imagine" series?

I lol'd. This is bad news for gamers everywhere. Then again UBI is making those demeaning games targeting female gamers.

What's a few mildly offensive games for the rest of the awesome games they put out? If anything, EA would just make MORE of the Imagine games once they took over.

Possibly because Nintendo does have all the cash it needs and Ubisoft kind of doesn't?
