I have a 150 bucks in circuit city rewards points burning a hole in my pocket. So I've decided to buy a ps3 what are the must own games I need to get?
Ok so I just got home with my new ps3 I got resistance superman 2 blue-ray disc, component cables and a two year warranty from circuit city total came out to be 625. was it worth getting the extended warranty?
Also there was an empty bag inside the box could i be missing something?
there was one controller, power cable, av cable, controller cable, broadband cable, manuals, and a catalog should there have been anything else?
Seriously though, Resistance is good. And though I haven't played it, I'm assuming that Ninja Gaiden Sigma is an even more kickass version of Black. So I'd get that first.
so far, the 360 games have been the better of the multiplatform releases, or so that's my understanding at least. I anticipate that changing as time goes on, however.
Motorstorm as well, and you have Heavenly Sword and Lair next month. Then there's some multi platform releases this month like Madden and Stanglehold {collectors addition comes with Hard Boiled bluray}.

yup I've had the 360 and wii since launch
For upcoming games is it better to get the 360 or ps3 version?
I picked up Resistance, Motorstorm, and Ninja Gaiden when I bought my PS3. I'd also suggest getting an PS2 games you might not have played yet and downloading some demos...
As for multi-platform releases, I think it's going to depend on "Home" for the PS3. If they roll out some sort of achievement tracking like Xbox Live I'll automatically get the PS3 release (assuming it's released around the same time as the 350 one). Also, for releases that have online multiplayer the PS3 version will have online play for free while you'll still have to pay for live.

Remember that Warhawk comes out at the end of this month so you might want to save some money for that. Also, if you buy the game at Ebgames, etc... it comes with a free bluetooth headset...
I've had mine for a month picked up Resistance and Ninja Gaiden. I'm not a big racing fan but the demo for Motorstorm was good so I'd go with that if your into racing games.
There are several good downloadables though such as Super Stardust HD, Calling all Cars, Super Rub'a Dub (IMO my fav game to demo the motion controls though most people seem to perfer fl0w), Piyotama, etc.. Not to mention if you missed it Castlevania SotN.
Lots of stuff comming this fall and spring though. I can't wait for Lair, Heavenly Sword, Stranglehold (HD movie woo), Uncharted, Warhawk, SOCOM, Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Street Fighter HD, Puzzle Fighter HD, etc..
Ohh yeah Super Stardust HD is absolutely amazing. It's the king of modern twin stick shooters, in my opinion. I've played that thing for hours and hours.

I don't know why people like it to this degree. It's really good, but I still like Geometry Wars much better. StarDust doesn't ramp up very fast... each game you play takes forever.

I like the mechanics of the sphere, it gives you much more room to maneuver and adds a new layer of strategy over Geometry Wars. I also like the look of the rocks as they break apart, and the extended depth offered by the choice of three upgradeable weapons.
I absolutely love Geometry Wars as well, I just like Super Stardust a little bit better.

I know that Home has a trophy room where you get trophies for stuff like beating games, getting certain high scores, etc. Is that what the achievements are like on Live? They showed off the trophy room in one of the Home demos, I think the E3 one. Should be up on gametrailers.com somewhere.

I don't know that Home will have the effect that people are thinking it will.
I mean, the simple mechanics of it are a little odd. You have to load a game (Home), find your friends in this game, virtually walk to a common location, and then launch your real game from there.
It's crazy. I wish they'd just update the system with cross-game invites, etc. It'd be much simpler.
is anyone gonna link to that deal where if you bought it with the sony credit card at the sony style shop you got 150 bucks off?
Sounds like the OP has some Circuit City credit, so wouldn't work. Is a good deal, otherwise, though. I suppose they could get the card anyway, then buy the PS3, and get the points...
As for games: yeah, I got Gaiden and Resistnace, and both are excellent. Also bought FlOw and Castlevania from the PS Store. Well worth the $12? for both.
Before you d/l or play too many games, think about getting a bigger HDD. Demos downloads are into the GB range, so 60GB is fine if you don't plan on uploading a lot else, but if you're going to want more space, I'd recomend getitng one now, rather than later. I got a 120GB on-line, and it took like 10mins to install.
I'm not a big fan of Geometry Wars yet I LOVE Super Stardust HD. Not just for the graphics either but I perfer the gameplay also. Not to mention its not nearly as difficult as Geometry Wars. I really sucked at GWars but I can do ok on Super Stardust.
Also whoever mentioned Blu-Ray movies is right. I just bought my first Blu-ray disc the other day (TMNT) and WOW the colors are so bright and its really clear. You can really see the difference when watching the extras (like the trailer) as they are only in 480p and the movie is 1080p. I was really surprised. I didn't have much interest in the HD formats as I was happy with my DVDs until now. Kind of thinking about getting a HD-DVD drive for my 360 now.

Sounds like you got everything, I don't remember getting anything else besides that with mine. The bag probably fell in accidentally during packing or something.
Er, when you're playing as Ryu, at least. Rachel isn't much fun. Fun to look at (hooray for moveable camera!), but you lose the thing that makes the game so much fun - super awesome ninja moves. And dual katanas.
Enjoy your new purchase! And do what that ^ guy said.
Was that $625 cash (plus 150 credit), or total?
If you had $150 in credit, the warranty should basically been free, so probably good deal then. I guess bonus of PS3 is since they won't be able to replace your 60GB soon, they have to give you an 80 or better if it breaks.

My boyfriend picked up Sigma and really enjoyed it, which is saying a lot because that's like the 3rd time he's played this game (he's already played through the original release and Black). The new graphics are purty, but it really sucks that they didn't bother to re-render the movies in HD. It wouldn't be unreasonable to say that the real-time rendered graphics now look better than the pre-rendered movies.
Also, I don't know if you're into this kind of thing, but I hear Armored Core is a good game. Personally, I'm just waiting for Dynasty Warriors Gundam and 6 to come out.

The PS3 is widely considered to be the most durable non-Nintendo console of the optical media era, so you may not need the warranty.

huh wonder if I can cancel it. also that was 625 total after using the points.
Also my tv and ps3 are nowhere near my computer/cable modem. whats a good cheap receiver I can buy to hook the ps3 into my wireless network?

Just so you know, Watching Blu-Ray movies over component offers no improvement whatsoever over DVDs. If you want to watch them in HD (720p or 1080p, if you have a newer HDTV), you have to use an HDMI cable. Any analog connection will downgrade the signal to 480p. Something to do with copy protection or HDCP something or other. I'll let someone a tad more knowledgeable tackle that.
Anyway, I got Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Resistance with my new PS3 as well.
And 300 as my Blu-Ray guinea pig.
