Booze Hounds - Thurs. Pre-Pax gathering at Shorty's

edited September 2007 in PAX Archive
Now that PAX isn't on the east side, this might work better than last year.

Those of your arriving early for PAX and need a drink or three on Thursday night, come join up over at Shorty's in Belltown/Downtown. The dogs are hot, the booze is strong and the games are classic. It's one of my favorite spots in Seattle.

I'll be wearing my I <GODZILLA> TOKYO shirt that I bought at PAX last year, so if you see me, come on over and say hi. If I'm drunk enough I might even buy you a drink!

http://www.shortydog.com/

btw they don't take credit cards so bring cash or use the ATM there.

Those of you interested in bar hopping, it's a good place to start since there are several other places nearby like the grunge-famous Crocodile Cafe. (hint: you don't have to pay a cover if you just want to drink in the back bar)

Listen. And understand. That Misterioso is out there. He can't be bargained with. He can't be reasoned with. He doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And he absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead..drunk.

Hmm, I could maybe use a couple drinks and some old school arcades/pinballs. I might see you there.

How far is it from the convention center?

Does anybody know how far this is from where Optimus Rhyme is playing that night? It might be a good pit stop if it isn't too far out of the way...

Rhyme is playing at the High Dive in the Freemont district. It's (def not walking distance.) It's a ~$15-20 cab ride from Shorty's.

Yah, but I only booked Friday/Saturday at the Days Inn Downtown. Thursday night we're staying at some Econo Lodge which is a 20 min drive from the convention centre :D Didn't think I was going to be coming down on the Thursday when I first booked and it was full when I tried to add the extra day to my original booking.

Shorty's is a great place and I'd also highly recommend the 5 Point Cafe. Great no bullshit atmosphere, the atmosphere is almost divish but they've got a great jukebox, stiff drinks at reasonable prices, and pretty good comfort food (chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy, meatloaf, etc.)

I'll probably get there myself after work around 7ish. I think they open their cool new lounge in the back at 8 or 9 and I'll try to grab some seats. Feel free to send me a PM or IM if you want my contact info.

FYI - just to make sure everybody knows, this is a bar, so 21 and over only.

If it's uphill going back to the hotels that will pose an interesting (i'm sure: hilarious) challenge. O_o

As compared to walking up to Capitol Hill, this is a stroll... all very gradual grades. Walking back to the hotel should be enough of a challenge if you partake of enough in the libations Shorty's has to offer anyway.

They seem to give out some pretty hefty shots.

UPDATE - Shorty's has a pretty weak happy hour but you can nab $1.75 bottles of PBR and Rainer until 8pm. I think they have $1 PBR drafts until 4pm as well.

No food discounts but that is already pretty cheap.

They have a full bar and maybe a half dozen beers on tap, PBR, Guinness, Mannys and Rogers Pilsner for sure (last two are good local brews) and the Trophy Room lounge in the back opens at 8pm so be sure to go back there and take a look.

It's no Gameworks but if you are looking for a unique spot where the locals actually go to drink and play some pball, def check it out. it's a cool place.

LAST UPDATE: ya'll that plan on getting wrecked tonight, inquire about the Shorty's patented "hangover breakfast" on Friday. (although they don't open until noon) it's a kick in the stomach.

SEE YOU TONIGHT AND DON'T FORGET TO SAY HI.

Everyone I met at shorty's was great. I'd be happy to see any of you next year. I avoided the shots and am quite happy for that.

I do feel inadequate at Tetris, after seeing some great tetris players, and have a great desire to pick up a DS before the next PAX. I just felt like I missed out on so many gaming opportunities.
