I found this article online and it mentions about a Jack Thompson debate. Can anyone confirm what the current news is on this?

he is on our turf. This wouldn't be a good thing. I don't want jack(PSYCHO) thompson anywhere near pax. He does not deserve the luxury of our audience. He is a small minded individual that does not deserve any news mention or invitation. He is someone that should be ignored and treated like the ignorance that he is.

Yeah, he would have needed an army of Enforcers to keep himself safe from the masses, and I don't think even they could protect him from the sheer mass of nerd rage that event would have brought on.

I would've liked this. While he's an arrogant dick, his televised shit never has people who are involved with games (CNN, Fox, Adam Sessler, etc.). A debate at PAX would mean that he'd actually have to respond directly, instead of sending childish emails about how he's superior and unlike him, we aren't lawyers.

How do you figure? He'd just have more people to insult. I don't think he'd hesitate to say the same crap in a theatre full of gmers.

Why give him more attention? Whatever happened (good or bad for him), he would have it spun all over the news and we'd have to see his face again.

This is sort of the danger.

I've seen preachers use the same methods. They WANT to be assaulted, so they can make you look bad, sue you into destitution and/or make you make statements against your activities, etc etc etc.

Sometimes I think he is actually a lot smarter then he looks and doesn't actually believe the filth that spews from his mouth but just does it for attention. If this is the case (Or if he is actually a moron but still does it for attention) I think we really should just pretend he doesn't exist. If he ever actually DOES anything concerning banning video games then that would be the time to act but untill then I think everyone would just be happier if no one mentioned his name ever again.

I don't believe for a second that he is smarter then he looks/sounds. I'm glad he didn't do it. The day he is no longer spoken of will be a holiday for me.

Yeah, really. Beating him up is exactly what he wants to have happen, to prove all of his points. The fact that you guys even would consider laying a finger on him makes me wonder if he is so crazy after all...

and then I come to the realization that he is, but I would never think of hurting him to justify all of his points.

Hmmm....I also remember hearing about this a while ago. I also seem to recall there being a reason as to why the debate was put off. It was something along the lines of that since the event wouldn't be televised, or there wasn't going to be enough media coverage, Jack wouldn't do it.

And I guess that makes sense. I mean, even if Jack could do well in the debate, if the only press are the press attendees at PAX, Jack'll be nothing but flamed no matter what he says/does.

Mind you, that's just what I heard. And who am I?

It would be a bad event. 5 minutes in JT is refusing to answer the questions and threating to sue people for saying mean things. On the plus side enforcers will get to throw him out.

I wouldn't even be caught touching him, and I'm one of the security leads for the Enforcers. Anyone even putting a hand within a foot of him will probably be on his list of people to sue once he gets out of Seattle.

This would be such a pointless stunt. It wouldn't accomplish anything except to perhaps give Thompson credibility he doesn't deserve. By inviting him to debate you imply he has anything credible to say and I also suspect you would hear plenty of stupidity from the nerd contingent as well.

I couldn't imagine anything short of Thompson criticizing the audience and his opponent. Along that same vein, the audience would be jeering him at every turn and just cement in his mind that gamers are animal heathens. The debate would be about as pointless as carving a crooked jag into a cliff. Sure, you did something, but it still looks the same, but with more of a point.
