Moments of the Week - 08/22/07

Starlord is the full of moments of the week. Theres nothing that can compare to the sheer awesomeness of this book this week.
motw0822starlord2dcp001ub7.jpg

Im loving Mantis in this issue. The indifference to everything going on around her the entire issue culminates in this scene where she opens up on some Phalanx drones. The poses for all her combat scenes are so random and fitting.

motw0822starlord2dcp002ra0.jpg

Then theres the best scene in the book. Captain Planet, er, Universe opens up on the crazy Shi'ar bitch that tries to kill him for sullying her honour by saving her life. Apparently shed rather die than be helped. Turns her fucking inside out. Hope he survives this book to do more shit like this.

motw0822starlord2dcp003fx0.jpg

Finally, Groot just rules. All his dialogue in the enitre issue is badass like this. Hopefully he doesnt die (he gets left behind since he cant fit in the escape tunnel the rest use) or gets turned into a Phalanx. Would like to see more of him.

Ironfist was its usual high quality and gave us this moment:

Hopefully the fights wont end up being done in 2 pages or off screen and we get some kick ass moments like the Fat Cobra this issue when they all have thier big fights.

Mary Marvel and Countdown get the comedy moment of the week for what is supposed to be a serious development.

Did anyone in editorial see this image before it went to press? Its some kind of orgasm meets brain damage / lack of oxygen pose. And is that a magic dildo of power Zatanna keeps for herself?

GLC wasnt on my pull list and sold out, so no idea if anything major happened in it or not aside from vague internet spoilers.

I'm really looking forward to the fights. Something tells me, they'll be their own arcs, since this arc is Round One of the tournament.

The Order had some good bits in it.

Thunderbolts was composed entirely of good bits.

I'd just mention everything else that's already been mentioned. The only thing that would have made this week better would have been surprise issues of Fables, Nova, and WWH.

Big Barda vs. Sin in this week's "Bird's of Prey"; first recent non-Gail Simone issue.

Somewhat entertaining if you can ignore the Black Canary Wedding tie-in.

    Barda: ...

    Sin: ...

Barda: BEHOLD, child: The MEGA ROD -- cosmic weapon of her who led the female furies of dread Apokolips.

Sin: Look, big sister: CHARIZARD -- third evolve of Charmander. Attacks with flamethrower, seismic toss or hyper-beam.

    I didn't think Charizard could use hyper-beam.

    Well.
I haven't played since Crystal came out. Haven't come close to winning since my cousin saved over my copy of Red where I was on Lance, after hearing me say for a year "Don't touch this game. Play Blue, play Yellow, don't play my Red."

Iron Fist: Full of good, why the hell didn't I pick this up 7 issues ago. Time to track down a trade.

Thunderbolts had it's normal share of stuff getting it's shit ruined.

    ASM
    "I'm lost...God help me, I'm so lost"

And did anyone else think the dialogue in Astonishing seemed a bit jumpy this issue, seemed a bit odd to try and follow it for whatever reason.

    Greatest page ever:
Danny kicking a Hydra dude through a fucking train (in one window, out another), while two more watch him.
My store finally got me a copy of #1, the only one I was missing, and it was well worth $4.25.

well since the cover of the next issue says 'Round Two' on it, i figure that's not the case.

I was really hoping for each round to be an arc, with a story from the Book in between each one, like they did with #7.

i think one solid, action-packed issue would be good per round. i'm curious if they're going to devote much time to the fights that danny isn't in. i'm really hoping we see all these dudes in action (especially dog brother number one)

    I'd buy it.

Anyway, Davos is clearly gonna make it to the end. He's got too much comeuppance due, plus the bit with Jeryn has to be resolved.

But in the bracket Danny and Davos have to face each other before the FINAL BATTLE.

    I can't. Here's my favorite part:

If anyone recalls the preview of TBolts #116, it included Robbie stealing some guy's pen and gouging a huge strip of flesh out of his chest with it. To be honest, I was starting to get a little sick of Robbie being a psycho too at this point. "Oh Robbie!" I said. "A ballpoint? What will you be gashing yourself with next?"

    Then this happened:

    tbolts01.jpg
    Holy shit!
    tbolts02.jpg
    I'm sorry, Robbie! I'm sorry!
    tbolts03.jpg
    No, daddy, no!!
    tbolts04.jpg

Other highlights include Venom having second thoughts about his diet, and Mindwave. No hyphen. There was a Mind-Wave, but he's dead. This guy is just using the name.

Mindwave pretty much did the exact same thing as Penance, only it lasted an extra page and he cut a bunch of bullets in half. With his mind.

I also liked Starlord #2, and I picked up Iron and the Maiden by Aspen Comics (never heard of it either), which was actually pretty good. Interesting story and great art.
