New Toys

Crates and Barrels: What better to start with than basics. These item containers have been revamped to support the themes of certain levels.
item03_070614b.jpgitem03_070614c.jpg

Assist Trophy: This is the Pokeball of the Nintendo Universe. Any kind of cameo you could think of comes from within...

Known Assist trophies:

Pokeball: An alltime favorite. Which still randomly gives you a poke to cause massive destruction with.
mball01_070605b.jpg

Groudon
mball02_070605d.jpg

Deoxys
mball03_070717d.jpg

Gooey Bomb: The Gooey Bomb acts as a sticky Remote Mine. While stuck to a character, it can be passed back after making contact with another player.
item01_070524c.jpgitem01_070524e.jpg

Cracker Launcher: This projectile launcher isn't as racist as it sounds. It might be more recognizable as a 'Roman Candle'. We saw it briefly in the short clip from Min-E3.
item02_070531d.jpgitem02_070531c.jpg

Banana Peel: Because Cliche's work.
item04_070627b.jpgitem04_070627d.jpg

Bumper: A return from the 64, relatable to Melee's Flipper item. A new twist leaves this possible to plant mid-air.
item05_070711b.jpgitem05_070711d.jpg

Pitfall: The item from Animal Crossing. Surprisingly, it caries its ability from Animal Crossing over very well. Simply making characters fall thru holes or thru platforms.
item06_070731b.jpgitem06_070731d.jpg

Smoke Ball: An original item, soley based on obscurity. This item deals no damage, but rather actually just blinds the player from the screen.
item07_070806b.jpgitem07_070806d.jpg

Franklin Badge: Debuting from the Mother Series (Earthbound), this relates to Fox's Reflector, like the Screw Attack Ball relates to Samus' Screw Attack. Basically, it reflects projectiles.
item08_070810e.jpgitem08_070810f.jpg

Spicy Curry: When a Fire Flower just can't suit your flaming needs.

Discussion (Read: Bitchings)
These are some things to expect in regards to the updates. The type of updated listed, and the expected discussion that can follow.

Music update - Next day spent argueing about MIDI files vs Orchestrated.

Item update - Someone inevitably pisses off the competitve players with the "Why no items" arguement. Other than that, everyone is generally happy.

B Moves update - People are generally meh about this towards returning characters, pretty happy about it towards new characters.

Final Smash update - 1 of 2 updates people everyone appreciates.

New/Old Character update - Pretty cool to see old characters revamped. Pretty awesome to see brand new characters.

Stage update - Next day spent arguing about gimmick levels vs. Battlefield/Final Destination.

Tutorial update - Boring tutorials, but spectacular mode discussions.

Movie update - Dicks cumming, all of them, simultaneously, with super mushroom power-ups.

Considering it's SSBB, and the tone that Sakurai takes with the updates, I wouldn't be surprised if his official count is "8 GAJILLION"

I just want some Advance Wars representation in this game. At this point I'd settle for it just being an Assist Trophy of Flak.
Ideally we'd have Andy, Sami, and Max playable, but that'd be too good to be true.
And before anyone goes "RAWR NO MOVES TO WORK WITH RAWR" I could easily come up with a possible moveset myself, so shush.

On the one hand, I was never really fond of the Donkey Kong Country series. The way Donkey and Diddy would "roll" to a stop combined with the fact that it was difficult to tell where the platforms stopped (at least for me) meant I lost a lot of lives in frustrating ways. On the other hand, the Donkey Kong games have been seriously under-represented in Smash, with only one character and a stage or two, so I'm glad to see that Diddy Kong's in.

Flak? Nuts to that. Put in Sturm, I say. Why bother with a (F)lackey when you can have the boss?

Sami would be rad, though. Andy, on the other hand, would probably be better as an assist trophy...

The roll is only to be used to perform Double Jumps.

Any other usage is incorrect and punishable by caning.

I totally agree about the platforms though not all of them are like that but there were enough to contribute alot of cheap deaths. Luckily the codes gave you 37 billion lives.

    Not necessarily.

What if the unannounced characters are unlockable characters? This could hide it for a little while longer, and if the unlocking was obscure enough on certain characters, it could delay their discovery beyond the 24 hours that some crazy Japanese kid will do to beat everything in the game and unlock everything before dying from not moving for anything including his house catching on fire.

Probably. Also I predict that there will be a drought on character announcements for a while, maybe 1 per 2 weeks or so, until we get closer to release, which is when they'll announce and B-move and Final smash with all of their updates, to get people really ramped up for the release.

I'm just saying that a release wouldn't necessarily mean that we'd know all the characters.
