360 Elite, is it worth it?

I'm sure there have been threads like this already but they've probably all been pushed back through the pages because of all the posting.

I was just wondering is it worth €200 to get a 360 Elite if I have to trade in my 360 Premium? With the deal I get the 360 Elite, a controller, a headset and everything else that comes with it and €100 worth of vouchers!

All I gotta do is throw down €200 and give them my old xbox.

Discuss!

If you were going to be buying the 360 for the first time I would say go for it. Bust since you already have a 360 then it depends. You have to ask yourself this

"do I need HDMI?" (I'm assuming your regular old 360 is one without HDMI)
"Will I use the 120 GB of hard drive space?"

The headset is just a bonus after that. Also it is not the wireless headset either. it is a wired one.

I have the Elite and I love it but it was also my first 360 too.

Id wait until they at least get the new 65nm Falcon chipset since you already have a 360. 200 pounds sounds like a lot, but I dont know the prices over there.

Is the elite more reliable than the standard 360? i.e. doesn't pull a ps2 and constantly break.

Not inherently. ALL models of the 360 have gotten the added heatsinks.

Really, the only way trading up to an Elite is worth it is if 1) you WILL use the HDMI port and 2) you WILL fill up the hard drive with stuff you don't want to erase.

200 pounds doesn't seem worth it to me.

Yeah, probably not. Just curious because I also plan on getting a 360 in the future.

    Not to hijack but:
    Hi
Elite or Halo 3 Xbox? (I do not already own an Xbox)

    Thx

Also, I need to output through optical audio
So if I got the Halo 3 Xbox I'd need to buy a $50 cable thing because MS is evil and doesn't let you output HDMI and optical audio at same time without special cable

    So which does I get
    That is a good question
    I do not know

    ----

Also, do you guys even know that they will release the Falcon chipset? Seems like a bunch of rumors.. and you don't even know when it will happen...

Current word is late this year is when they will start showing up.

And you will have no idea if you are getting one or not.

I don't think it's worth the wait for something you can't even be assured of getting. I'm just going to take my chances with a Pro w/HDMI.

When I've accomplished the goals I've set for myself before I get a 360. Hopefully Sept 20th, just in time for Halo.

    I'm disappointed with my newly-acquired Elite 360.

I thought the faceplate would be gloss black, instead of matte black. :(

    It's hard to tell.

But actually, it's a good thing, because otherwise it'd get fingerprints all over it and would look terrible.

I personally love my Elite, mostly due to the fact that FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON my old 360 ran things at a slower rate than my brother's completely identical 360. It literally loaded things slower, ran things slower, hiccuped on graphics, I don't have a clue why. And I do use the HDMI, it's nice.

    Oh well, replaced!

    cuz newer is better right?

No, only the more recently bought models have the added heat sinks.

Unless you can look inside the box, no. But if they got it in recently it should definitely have the newer heat sink. I bought mine about 3 months ago and it DOES have the additional sink.

Elite seems like a waste of money if you already have a premium. Unless you need the bigger HD, it's probably better to spend the money on a better display if you are looking to improve your image quality.

The new XBox Pro (or premium or whatever) has HDMI right? So the only upgrade the Elite is offering is 100GB extra HD and the headset?

I want to make sure because I'm getting pretty close to buying the 360 but I don't want to regret anything.

If you don't have a really kickass display I don't see how it's worth the extra money.

Yeah that's all I really wanted to know, €200 is really much to me at the moment, sounds really wankerish as if I'm throwing money around but I've been working all summer and I want to buy something so I was thinking the Elite and a new HDTV.

So you reckon if I was planning on buying it to wait until the new chipsets are out and hope I get lucky with one of them!

Also the guy in gamestop told me they'd fixed some of the bugs but not all of them and they wouldn't be sure until people started using them and stuff!

I'd probably get it for cheaper than €200 because I'd be trading in a load of Wii games and maybe even my old Xbox!

Main reason I am going for an Elite is: To output HDMI & optical at same time you need that cable that comes with the Elite, cuz it has a special dongle... and MS charges 50 for it seperately. So when i look at it that way, it is a decent deal.

Yeah, the Elite came with like three or four separate cords you can use to hook it up to your television, depending on what kind of jack you are going to be hooking it up to.

All the consoles I've ever had were black, and I'm going to get an Elite. I hope they announce a black one, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen anytime soon (since people are buying Wiis no matter what the color).

    I want it so bad

but i can't get it until I ask the 'rents if its okay.

and they are away till tomorrow

and it is possible i could get them to give me a cash advance for my birthday to help me towards buying an elite

i did get a random unexpected $250 bonus from work though so that helps too

Why not just get a premium model with HDMI? If you need a "cash advance" to purchase the system, perhaps that would be a better choice.

Like I said, I'd still need to spend $50 dollars extra because the Premium doesn't allow you to output HDMI video with optical audio unless you buy the special dongle that comes packaged with the MS HDMI cable which is $50 itself and comes with the Elite anyway.

And I do have more than enough money to get the Elite, it's just that I'd rather get part of it as a gift, you know, because gifts are nice.

Wish I had the patience to wait for the Falcon boards. However, Bioshock and Halo 3 are telling me that I cannot wait.
