Kane and Lynch: Dead Men is an upcoming (due out in November) PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 game from I/O Interactive, the creators of the Hitman series as well as Freedom Fighters (which was basically Red Dawn in New York City).

Promo material for the game describes it as
a co-op action game depicting a violent and chaotic journey of two men - a flawed mercenary and a medicated psychopath – and their brutal attitude towards right and wrong. Now, they must partner up as a mess of cash makes for hell on Earth

I call it the closest thing to a video game version of the movie Heat that we'll ever get.

heres the plot quoted from wikipedia

Kane

Kane starts out as a normal father of two, working as a consultant for large companies that outsource work to other countries. His relatively normal life takes a turn for the worse when his two-year-old son finds his gun, shoots himself with it and dies two weeks after. Kane is unable to cope and seeing the blame put squarely on him by his wife, he skips the country. He becomes a mercenary, and after six years of putting his acquired skills to good work, he is contacted by a mysterious group known only as The Seven.

"A brotherhood of unlimited power", The Seven are looking to add Kane to their ranks. They promise him riches which also come with stringent rules. If those rules are ever broken, Kane is a dead man. He works for the mercenary organization for thirteen years. When their retirement job in the US goes horribly wrong, Kane's entire team ends up dead (or so he thinks). He manages to escape with a fortune in diamonds. He flees to Venezuela, but the authorities catch up to him and he is sentenced to death. It is unknown where or how Kane got the distinctive scar running from his forehead, across his right eye down to his right cheek. It should be noted that Kane cares alot about his daughter, knowing that he'll die when he gets the money, but his daughter will be spared. He does not show these emotions to others as is seen in the newest background from their website.

Lynch

Lynch worked out of several Detroit warehouses. He also suffers from severe schizophrenia which requires extensive medication. He came home from work one day to find his wife dead, but because he is prone to blackouts during which he commits atrocious acts of brutality, he isn't sure whether or not he had anything to do with it; a jury sentences him to death.

Initial encounter

The two men meet on a transport to death row. Lynch tells Kane to cover his head, the transport is violently ambushed and crashes (breaking Kane's nose; hence the plaster-cast he sports). What at first seems like a rescue attempt is, in fact, a kidnapping. Apparently, four members of The Seven who survived the disastrous retirement job, have come back to square things with Kane. They offer him a deal: they'll only kill him and spare his wife and daughter if he returns the money. Kane accepts the deal. Lynch tasked with watching over Kane by the mercenaries; Kane and Lynch have to work together to regain the fortune, so that Kane's family may survive.

Gameplay

The player will take the role of Kane during the game (Lynch is controlled by the AI, or by a second player in co-op mode). The plan is to incorporate Kane and Lynch's personalities into the game mechanics. Where Kane is more subtle and employs finesse, Lynch is a loose cannon, and may be liable to up the ante to full combat. This system is currently still in the testing phase.

There will also be an element of squad-based combat. At times, Kane may control a squad which he can guide using simple instructions. Kane's personality will also play a part here, as he has a reputation for leaving his team behind, initially he will only be able to hire low-life scum, who might not obey his commands. As the game progresses, more professional help will become available.

How much you want to bet lynch didn't commit the murders and it will be a major plot twist?

This game looks awesome though. I really hope the game takes some elements from hitman.

watching the gameplay video, other than the camera angles it looks like it plays a lot like Blood Money...which makes sense since they use the same engine

It breaks my heart that yet another PC drone has to comment like this. All we need is someone to say, "This would be so awesome on the Wii," and we'll complete the set.

I thought almost the same thing when I first saw it. However, there's supposedly a Heat game in the works, but who knows how that'll turn out. :P

Kane & Lynch looks promising. We need more cooperative console games.

Why are people upset about the gameplay video? It looks pretty much like Freedom Fighters, and that game was a hell of a lot of fun. I'm planning on picking this up based on that pedigree alone.

so last February Lions Gate already bought the movie rights to Kane and Lynch desite it not even being out yet. Evidently they like the script so much they're fast-tracking it and are going to start filming this fall. IGN claims "We have also heard that several big-name actors are being considered for the title roles, including one A-lister whose identity we're not currently at liberty to disclose but who we're told is eager to do the film and likes Ward's script."

I hope they get a competent director.
