How did that panel end? I left to get dinner after it was down the last blood-thirsty hundred or so in the theatre. Did he snap? Did he just give up and walk away? Was it civil? Did he ever clue in that coming to PAX was an awful idea?

I have to give him props for daring to show up. For however much crap he does in the day-to-day, he at least has the balls to stand up and stutter in front of thousands of angry people when he has nothing to gain from it.

Actually the whole Q&A was pretty civil, except for the couple of people who yelled things. It seems most of the people who really hated him left. It was entertaining though, watching him defend himself.

For those who were not there, such as myself, I came across this video of the entire panel. Thanks to whomever recorded it and to joystiq for posting it.

It's a good thing that the (All hail) balls had been removed (or at least forgotten about) by the time the trailer finished playing.

I would've preferred seeing Jack Thompson than Uwe Boll. I unfortunately stayed until they told us to leave. It was horrible. It put a pretty big damper on my mood for a while. Then the trivia later on made up for it.

At least Bloodrayne actually had some nudity. Not that I'm defending it (it was/is complete shit), but that is something it had over Elektra and Ultraviolet.

I don't know how much of the "Storytime with Khoo" stuff in Enforcerland I'm allowed to repeat -- I'll temporarily assume "none of it" -- but from what I heard from Khoo himself, you can rest assured that Uwe Boll and his people went into this with their eyes open. PAX did not trick them -- they were told from day one that this will be a disaster, so Are You Sure?

I hope this is true. I found myself in the position of feeling sorry for Uwe Boll... not exactly a comfortable place to be.

I am glad that it wasn't Jack Thompson, though. Some kid would probably huck a Bawls bottle at his head, sparking nastiness, and leading to Jacky having more ammo for his "games make people violent" band wagon.

My Something Awful username is Pixelante, and I resent the man as passionately as anyone else, but putting him on stage would have been a bit dangerous, in my humble opinion. Besides, PAX should be about unity, gaming, and love of the craft. I have mixed feelings about Uwe being there. On the one hand, it makes one hell of a story to tell and it was very surprising. I dig surprises. On the other hand, it brought out a lot of our meanness. "Fuck you and your racist bullshit" girl kind of made me cringe, because it would have been far more productive to be polite and articulate about our complaints, rather than raving mad.

I thought it was cool, actually. He came off 10x better than the hecklers did. He did a fair and reasonable job of defending who he was and what he does. You can complain about how bad his movies are but by throwing out personal insults you're just being a dick.

I left about a 2/3 of the way through, but only because the guy really isn't that interesting or entertaining to listen to. He was saying the same stuff he always does. Still, it was a pretty cool surprise to actually see the infamous man himself in person.

I gave until I shaw the clips of his movie til I heckled. I was an educated heckler, and with a movie that bad, he deserved the heckling he got. Really the only comment in bad taste was that girl who screamed the racist thing.

But yeah, you're supposed heckle bad things on stage. And bad movies done by them.

Guys, I don't think we should have this debate. No side will win. Some people agree there is merit in bringing honest, informed criticism directly to the face of the person who needs it. Some people agree it took a lot of balls to get up in front of people like that.

I think nearly everyone agrees that throwing things or just insulting the man were not cool.

Be careful that we don't just argue out of instinct. I'm worried one side will think the pro-informed-criticism people are also OK with throwing insults and physical objects at the man; and that the other side will think the please-be-civil people think the man shouldn't hear any criticism at all.

If that happens, this thread will go several more pages before the fires finally burn down. That would suck.

That girl making the comment about his "racist bullshit" was really unnecessary, which I said when I saw her outside of the theater. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with someone, even vehemently, but you don't have to lower yourself to the level of shouting angrily at someone and then running off into the crowd.

She seemed, shall we say, unrepentant.

"Do a barrel roll!" "Super Smash Bros. Melee?"

In defense of that dude in trivia, we couldn't hear shit up on the stage when it came to the spoken part of the audio clips. It was all like "Mh A Muha rhum!". In his panic he thought of the Star Fox level of Smash. I followed it up with the correct answer, with the audio clip now made very clear through the audience's frantic barrel roll demands.

Agreed. We should have outclassed him. This was the part where we tell him he's fucking Ed Wood's corpse, not just screaming incoherently. It's sad but the kind of comments we were throwing at him? He's used to that. He knows how to dodge it. He bobbed and weaved it.

I think his movies are trash and he's a parasite, but I respect him for this reason: It took serious stones to go into the lion's den that is PAX on purpose.
