Oh, I guess that's just episodes.

And I really doubt stores make much, if any, profit on those cards.

They don't make shit on Live cards, but it's still something I do. I go for the human element if I can do so without too much extra trouble. Every dollar I spend there helps them out much more than every dollar I transmit directly to Microsoft through the series of tubes.

But you gotta admit, it would be a cool idea, right? I'd pay extra every month to have the option to download movies directly to my console, meaning I wouldn't have to leave the house and wander through the rental place with kids screaming and long lines and scratched up DVDs and a clerk who is trying his damndest to get me to buy some popcorn, soda, candy, and a new release when I do get to the counter.

And I realise that the first paragraph directly contradicts the second and I am a gigantic hypocrit.

God, yes. That pisses me off so much, especially since I tend to try out every release.

Why is this annoying? Do you not want people knowing that you played the Space Giraffe demo, or something?

I always wondered if it was because in the achievements section, where it lists that you have X out of Y possible achievement points. trial games get added to the total possible achievement points, even if you don't buy them. Those that care a bit too much about achievement points...it brings down the percentage of total completion.

I'll admit I found it annoying too...but it hardly matters. no one but you sees it (edit: unless you want others to). That and achievement points are completely meaningless

Some of the sites that track your gamerscore include trial games as part of your completion percentage. So if you play the demo of Space Giraffe and dislike it that 200 points is still calculated into your potential gamerscore.

Don't knock the reasoning, gaming is an OCD hobby.

I think people assume you have the game too if they see it so they start sending you invites thinking you own it. That happened to me a few times.

This is something that bugs me more than it probably should. Why do both Xbox Live and Nintendo's offerings have ridiculously low limits on their friends lists (100, for both, right?)? Did they design these things back in the age of dialup? Has no one complained about it in almost 2 years? For all the talk about how Xbox Live is worth paying for because it offers a more seamless experience, this is really something that makes me go :? and think they're not taking online seriously at all.

i don't know if this goes for everyone, but i have.. 89 people on my friends list. Of them, a 'busy' night is when there's more than 7 people online. At most, there's only ever about 20 people to choose from who are on regularly. I'm sure if most people kept their lists tidy, you'd have a hard time having 100 people on there who you know and play regularly.

Regular opponents isn't necessarily the point, I'd just want to populate it with people who aren't total raging assholes. The problem I have is that there may be more than 100 people on any given message board, which is where'd I'd generally populate my lists. As it is, the idea of picking and choosing and weeding semi-regulars out seems as fun as manually entering IP addresses. Why is this even still necessary? It just strikes me as if the people who designed the thing had never even heard of a message board before, and makes me imagine the 360 webpage being hosted on AOL or Geocities.

it's also not like the list takes up allot of space, it's an arbitrary software limitation that impacts some users.

yeah, i'm not saying they shouldn't do anything about it, if it's an easy fix they should go ahead and make it bigger. My point was, the ratio of people on my list, to people ever actually online, is quite small. I know it's not like that for everyone, and if you're adding people from a whole load of message boards, then i can see how a list would fill up. Even then, i don't have everyone from PA on my list, but almost certainly through the fun old 6 degrees of separation, i can play a game almost entirely with PA folk, most of whom i don't have added as friends.

I hate the friend list size limitation. I'm always around 87 - 98 friends and having to chop people off to make room.

It sucks. I'd even pay 400 point for an extra 100 slots.

On the subject of XBLA, I bought Small Arms today with the labor day discount. That was pretty easy, but I accidently bought also the "Ivar and Gullarp lolmoney" theme thinking it was actually the game content, so now I only have like 300 microsoft points instead of 400 (which I could've used on something else since apparently so many things are only 400). So aside that, I start up the game, I play one or two player matches, and it's awesome. I then want to unlock some new characters, so I play mission mode. Ok, I get through the first match, so I have to fight two people.

OH MY GOD JESUS CHRIST THIS IS SO ANNOYING FUCKING NINJA KILLING ME IN TWO SECONDS AND FUCKING TREE GUY SHOOTING FUCKING SAWS AT ME BEFORE I CAN MOVE. And even if I kill the FUCKING NINJA GIRL I only have one life which is quickly taken from me by THE HORRIBLE TREE MAN.

It's not like it'd be a foriegn concept to MS (paying for upgrades) - you'll be able to subscribe to "Bungie Pro" for 800ms points per year to increase your server space for films, gametypes, etc

How about dealing with the god damn DRM issues that are fucking over people who have to get their Xboxes replaced - or those of us who want to upgrade to an elite?

    Please?

Resurrecting thread to quote this, as I finally got Red Ring'd this week, and have replaced my console.

None of my content is available offline, and I have a lot.

And similarly, I can imagine upgrading to an Elite/later model 360 at some point in the future.

This is not how it should work, given the number of failed/failing launch 360s. Microsoft - get on it!

If you send it in, you can just call them up and they will reissue all your points. The people it screws over are those who upgrade to a different system/own more than one/use a store warranty.

    1) More games like Band of Bugs with a stronger multiplayer vs theme and deeper customization. (basically, I want a Final Fantasy Tactics clone)

    2) TradeWars 2002, spread out over the expanse of xbox live... C'mon man, it's trade wars.. I want my turn based, play by play, strategy empire building sims.

    3) More flight sims (bring back wing commander, pull Mark Hamill out of mothballs, along with the guy that played Biff in Back to the Future, record some new voices, make some new missions, and that's about it.

    4) Virtual Tabletop (pay WoTC if you have to, or use a non D20 system) Please!

    5) Duke Nukem Forever (it has to be on every list, ever made.....)

    6) A free game every month, or every three months even, for premium memberships. (The year bundles already come with a game (if you can still find the cards), but if I already have that game I should get a voucher for another one) At least give us a free game with every live refill, or some points.

    7) Bonus points for buying in bulk. (I would buy $70 worth of points if I got $20 or $30 for free)

    8) It's been said, but better DRM. I want to be able to take TV show's I've legally paid for and play them on something besides my xbox. At least let me link them to my account so I can rent shit I've already bought and let friends watch it on their boxes when I come over, even if they can't keep it.

Nope, I got it swapped for a new one at the store I bought it from, back at launch, so I'm all outta luck.

    I didn't want to send it to Microsoft because;

    a) I had it covered with a small insurance plan.

    b) At the moment, they have something like a month turnaround. Halo 3 is out in a couple of weeks. I've got time off of work for that sucker, I'm not missing one day!

So this may be a bit off topic, but I just bought a new 360 with my roommate. I'm probably gonna get my gold account reactivated on the new 360, will I be able to redownload all my old arcade games for free, since I already downloaded them once on my old 360 and they are tied to my gamertag?

Also, my friend has a gold 360 account he shares with his brother. Could he reactivate it on the new one and have it still active on his old 360? Will that cost double or something since he's using one account but two Xboxes?

On the first point, yes you can download all your old content, but chances are you will have to be signed into Live to use any of it.

On the second point, I'm not quite sure what you mean. You can sign your gold Live account onto any 360, but can only be actively signed into Live on one console at a time.

And to Fragglefart, I think you need to register (or change registration) your new 360 with MS before you can use your games offline.

when my last xbox died, i just had to take the console itself (got to keep the HD) back to Game, and they took a new one out of the box for me. Came home, hooked it up, and couldn't access any purchased content offline until i selected 'download again' for it all, then it worked just fine. Sucks that it doesn't work for some :(
