Guilty Gear 2: Overture

I don't recall seeing a thread for this before, so excuse me if this is all old news to everyone, here goes anyway.

First up:
A) Why is it I've never heard of this up until right now
Why is it that the new guilty gear game is A 3D DYNASTY WARRIORS / KINGDOM UNDER FIRE TYPE THING EXCLUSIVE FOR THE 360

Though I'll actually pick it up if the combat is any good. I really like the Guilty Gear characters.
Hey, maybe as a way to help promote this we'll get one of the Guilty Gears on XBLA.

That UI is pretty god awful, though. I swear the Japanese have never heard of minimalism.

I'm reading up on it now and I still don't get it it. It's still a fighting game rather than a straight slashing game ala Dynasty warriors, but you have an army and you send them to fight and then you can fight like a 3d fighting game and Xbox live battles and...

Yeah I still don't get it. Still, Guilty gear has a really cool and interesting universe. Probably would have been more excited by a new HD 2d fighting game but whatever.

King of what? The whole world? From what I understand of the Guilty Gear plot thaat would mean there had been a pretty big shake up of the political landscape between XX and this.

That stuff is generally interpreted as being some sort of crazy secret organisation, rather than any kind of world government. If I remember (although it's been quite a while since I looked any of this up) the world is still nominally composed of independant nations at the time when XX takes place but the UN is a much more powerful force everywhere except wherever it is Potemkin comes from where they clearly ignore everything the UN says because they still use blacktech (any and all technology harmful to the environment, everywhere else it is illeagal having been deemed to have been superceded by magic).

As long as it plays well and keeps to GG's sense of art and style and the fucking awesome music, I'll be pleased.

No the first Guilty Gear was a fighter on PS1 and even then it was really high-res for its time.

Maybe it's the shots that don't do the game justice but the environements look rather sub-par for a 360 game. The character models are okay at best, tho I'd like to see them in movement.

This is a prequel though. So that ending doesn't matter in that respect.

You want Sengoku Basara X then which is the Arc developed 2d fighter based on Devil Kings.

If this is good, it's one of the games I will be getting a 360 for. I enjoy (read: have major gripes with, but think it's fun) Dynasty Warriors, and I love Guilty Gear. I would have preferred a new 2D fighter, but at least Accent Core is coming to the Wii (and hopefully a wireless arcade stick is coming to NA.)

The graphics look a little off, but it'd be hard to capture the beautiful 2d look in 3d. The robots look pretty cool, and it will be interesting to see them play out the big wars talked of in the storyline with actual large scale conflicts. (I always thought it was a bit odd to have 'wars' in a 1-on-1 fighting game.)

To the last few posters wondering if it's a prequel, read the magazine scan. It's set years after Guilty Gear X, with Ky as a king of a nation and Sol continuing his bounty hunting lifestyle.

But hey, good news is we're getting Guilty Gear XX Accent Core this fall.

If it's several years after X then it's several years after XX given that the very little time passes between the two.

Hey badass. Noticed in the majority of shots Sol has a new sword, but in the bottom left picture of that magazine page, he's got good old rectangular Fireseal/Fuuenken.

I guess people can have different equipment now? Great images of Bridget trying to swing around a giant anchor now.

This was announced a bit ago. It's coming out on November 29 in Japan, and it's the first game in the series that really moves the story forward. I'm surprised with the negative comments some of you guys have made, specially since the last few guilty gears have been overpriced patches.

Well, to be fair...one of the first 360 themes that was shown featured Sin (eyepatch guy), so this game has probably been in development for some time.

Also, Daisuke will be Sol's voice, as he should.

Well it's being touted as a 3d fighting game with RTS elements so I doubt it will wind up being "mash 1 button to win"

This could be great, or it could be a convoluted mess. History ahsn't been kind of fighting games that try to be more than just that. Still, I love me some Guilty Gear and will likely be importing this.
