Final Fantasy VII Tribute: Voices of the Lifestream
I'm not sure if people still visit OCRemix nowadays, but I was asked to promote this, so here it is. If the mods feel this is inappropriate, please lock it.
I should confess that I never played Final Fantasy VII before, but aside from whether it holds up today or not, who hasn't listened to bits of the soundtrack at some point? The battle themes in particular are notorious for their adrenaline and epicness. If you've seen Advent of Children like me, there should be a sense of familiarity surrounding these tracks. I reckon most of you have played it though, so this would be a nice opportunity to remember back the days when you were battling huge bosses for minutes on end and watching the FMV scenes with utmost curiosity. And, you know, playing the game once in a while.
If you're a fan of Final Fantasy music or game music in general, don't miss out.
You realise that 1.7GB of that is WAV files? And unless you desperately want lossless versions of each and every track, you really don't need to download those.

I'm just hoping the quality of the sound would match up to the quality of the music when the download's done.
This game had the best boss music of any of the Final Fantasy games.
OMG FF6 says HIIII
FF6 says HIIII from second place!
i love ff6, and actually am currently playing it through for the first time in a few years. i'm about four or five hours into the world of ruin, and i love this game as much as i ever did.

I never beat FF7, but I did enjoy a lot of the music. It did have the best normal boss battle music, with FF6 being close behind, however, as cool as One Winged Angel is, Dancing Mad is so awesome, OWA can't even see it.

still, ff7 boss music > ff6 boss music
Agreed sir. FF7 had some of the best music in any video game that I've played thus far... I wish people would take time to write good music when they develop a video game. It gives it such a lasting appeal (at least to me)
The JENOVA track is pretty cool. Appropriately techno, but not as intense as the original. Hell, the Heart of Anxiety remix has vocals and they're surprisingly not bad.

Honestly, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, and Chrono Cross are three games where hearing parts of the score sold me on the game.
Woah, I'm loving these song. Good 'ol '98 memories...improved!
Meh. Just finished my first listen and I'm not impressed. There's a lot of generic techno/rave stuff on there, which I guess is fine if you're into the genre, but I just find it repetitive and dull. I think I'd like it a lot more if remixers like Children of the Monkey Machine and Beatdrop had contributed. If only for variety's sake.
Also, it's a shame that the One Winged Angel mix sounds so muddled - especially given the clarity and force of the original.
Edit: TNC - just download uTorrent. It's, like, 200k or something and it'll let you select which files in the torrent you want to download.

I never played those games (well, except FFVI) true-to-life on the original system. It could be one reason why I'm not so pleased with CT. I'll give it another shot if it gets released on the VC, however.

Yeah, I might have to take back my general compliment, I had only clicked a few and liked them, but there is a lot of crap in there too. And the extent to which they ruined "The Crossroad-Cid's Theme" is kinda impressive in and of itself. Jesus.
To be fair, it is pretty much frowned upon to just cover a song without some unique interpretation different from the original source. I don't know the original source to judge that, but give them some slack.
When we say 'ReMix', we actually mean something closer to 're-arrangement', if that helps clarify. If you listen to most of the pieces on the site and compare them to the originals, you should get an idea of what a ReMix is. In terms of arrangement - how close or distant ReMixes should be to the original - the general rule is that the ReMix should be YOURS. We don't just mean that you were involved in its creation, but that it is different enough from the original so as to readily illustrate the contributions, modifications, and enhancements you have made. In other words, don't just take the original game audio and drop a few drum loops on top. Also, don't simply take a MIDI file and assign new instruments to the parts, or add reverb, and expect that to pass as 'yours'. Changing a piece's genre, adding original passages, solos, harmonies, and counter-melodies, as well as altering instrumentation, dynamics, and tempo are all ways of making a ReMix your own unique creation, and are techniques best used in conjunction.

It's taking forever though.
over 2GB of music! holy cow..
This will add nicely to my multitude of other FF7 music.

I'm so downloading this when I get home.

Never. 7 is a close second.
7 has better regular battle music though.
hahahahaha
Apparently you've been playing FF a little too much.
But it had a nice soundtrack. So aces to this!
I was thoroughly impressed with how professional Dark Side of Phobos sounded. I never thought a Doom remix would sound that awesome.
Anyway, download en-route when the site's back up again (I guess they're getting hammered pretty hard right now).
Of course, Chrono Cross score > Baba Yetu > FFVI score.
Well, ok, Parts of FFVI beat Baba Yetu.
Nothing beats Chrono Cross though. Ever.
Yea, that intro alone is pants tightening.
The CC intro is one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard. Makes you want to set out on a magical adventure every time.
Also, I like how fast this thing downloads after the slowish start.

But what I've streamed off the site so far has been nice.
Keeps saying I've exceeded the platform limit and shoving a huge file name from the torrent in my face, ah well.

Killer. Thanks, didn't know you could do that.

Get a torrent client that doesn't suck and lets your remove individual files. uTorrent and Azures both let you do this.
I like it, most of the remixes of songs I like are great.
