So did Ailsean contribute to this? I'm just wondering, as he's my favorite remixer and I'm too lazy to look.

To be fair, it is pretty much frowned upon to just cover a song without some unique interpretation different from the original source. I don't know the original source to judge that, but give them some slack.
    What qualifies as a 'ReMix'?

When we say 'ReMix', we actually mean something closer to 're-arrangement', if that helps clarify. If you listen to most of the pieces on the site and compare them to the originals, you should get an idea of what a ReMix is. In terms of arrangement - how close or distant ReMixes should be to the original - the general rule is that the ReMix should be YOURS. We don't just mean that you were involved in its creation, but that it is different enough from the original so as to readily illustrate the contributions, modifications, and enhancements you have made. In other words, don't just take the original game audio and drop a few drum loops on top. Also, don't simply take a MIDI file and assign new instruments to the parts, or add reverb, and expect that to pass as 'yours'. Changing a piece's genre, adding original passages, solos, harmonies, and counter-melodies, as well as altering instrumentation, dynamics, and tempo are all ways of making a ReMix your own unique creation, and are techniques best used in conjunction.

Which is why 'live' game music cover bands are so much better. They generally don't add too much new unnecessary stuff to the song, they just outright cover it in their style, be it punk, metal, ska or what have you. That's why I always prefered VGMix, too, until it went down. There's some awesome tracks in this remix project but many suffer from what for me is my biggest problem with Overclocked Remix as a whole - I spend the first half of the song thinking "this is nice and all, but where the hell is the source tune I downloaded this track to hear redone?"

I've never heard a CC remix better than the original track.

This project is good, the CT one and the Earthbound one are better.

If you're wondering, no, I've not given up on my FF7 PC LP thread, I was just playing it last night. I needed to find the right combination of patches to get all the minigames working. The first post should be Monday.

I don't care how cliche it is to love FF7, it's still got hands-down the best final-boss music I've ever heard in a game.

Actually, it's cliche these days to hate on FF VII, someone actually professing love for it is a bit refreshing.

No, I still think 6 is better, soundtrack and all, but seven has some amazing tracks. The main theme for instance.

It's also funny that the Black Mages cover of the Boss theme might rock less hard than the actual rockin version of that track.

FF6 and Chrono Trigger had better music, but FF7's was the best thing about the game by a long shot. And I thoroughly love everything OCRemix has ever done.

An FF6 remix tribute along this lines of this and Chrono Symphonic would be the best thing ever.

I preferred the music in 6 slightly over 7 but I'm a fan of both. I doubt i'll get 2 gigs of the stuff though. Which tracks aside from the ones already mentioned are people favouring at the moment?

As a side note for whoever said FF7 has the best boss music ever (it's definitely good, don't get me wrong), go and listen to the Nocturne soundtrack. In fact the SMT games in general kick FF's ass in the music department.

I agree Nocturne's jams be the shit. FF 10's Temple Hym always got to me, was so pleasant to here. The rest of the music is meh. FF 7 style is cool sounding with a hint of epic!

These remixes would probably be more enjoyable if I had ADD. You do not have to add 16 drum beats per second to make music. Really, you just achieve the opposite when you do.

This game had the best boss music of any of the Final Fantasy games.

    OMG FF6 says HIIII

FF6 says HIIII from second place!

i love ff6, and actually am currently playing it through for the first time in a few years. i'm about four or five hours into the world of ruin, and i love this game as much as i ever did.

still, ff7 boss music > ff6 boss music

Are we including Dancing Mad and Atma Weapon?

Because if so, I think FF7 just got raped.

Three songs in and what I've heard is excellent...

...may not be the style of music for everyone, but if you played the game and enjoyed it, these remixes can bring back some of the powerful memories you might have felt while playing the game.

On top of the nostalgia value, the tracks seem pretty well produced.

    So there you go.

    Edit:

I enjoyed and remember a lot of the FFVI music but you gotta remember that FFVII was a CD game...and the production values and track quality were far superior.

The game just had more content in general, than VI.

Still thought VI was a great game, and more favored in my mind.

"Too much fighting" is not even close to sounding like the song it's based off.
Is it even in the game?

    Neither does Fight On.
    And Red XIII's theme is...
it's fucking somber and slow, you fucking pricks. Why is this FAST!?

    Guh, this is horrid.

The thing is as I've said remixes can be fun and good and a great listening experience, but my problem with a lot of remixes is that they aren't "x theme with original sections," it's "Original song with cameo melody of x from game y," and to be honest, it just isn't a remix when it hits that point.

The Sonic remix compilation they did seemed to avoid this pitfall, but not this one. Still, some of the tracks on here are great, so I'll be glad to have got those from it at least.

Though I guess it's not really a remix, just the original songs played with celtic instruments.

Hey. Hey. Some of these compilations are great. The Kirby one was good, the Doom one was great, the Donkey Kong Country one was good, I haven't listened to the Metroid one but I remember it being pretty good. The Sonic ones are good too.
I don't remember how good the Street Fighter one is because I haven't listened to it in a while. It did have some unneeded lyrics in songs though, I will give you that.
