I know some of you don't like these threads, but I haven't seen a Wii one in a while.
Ok, so due to some shit happening with my brother moving out, I no longer have a 360 and I'm just left with my Wii. I haven't really played anything on it in a long time though. A lot of the games seem like something I'd play, just not for $50. So what are the best cheap games on the Wii? I already have Twilight Princess, DBZ: BT2, Excite Truck and of course Wii Sports. I also had Red Steel, but used it to get $30 Blockbuster credit netting me Dead Rising for $5.
Is getting the Wii version instead of the others worth the extra ten bucks?
Hells yea!!
Let's just say once you've aimed, popped a kneecap, and headshotted with the Wiimote, you'll be dreading going back to dual stick controllers.
Probably should have mentioned that I had a Gamecube, so I have a ton of GC games. My brother has Trauma Center, but I couldn't get into it.
I really want RE4, but I'm a little skeptical as I still own the GC version.
I don't see a ton of things in that holiday season thread that interest me outside of Fire Emblem.
I've never played any version of The Godfather. Sell me on it?
Regarding RE4, I also have the Gamecube version which I never touched after playing up to the village. In comparison with RE4:Wii which I've got to chapter 4 so far and still going.
What makes Godfather:Blackhand the best version is the melee controls - EA's nailed the melee controls very well. Check here for a preview.
This is also a good thread of PAer's impressions of the game: Click here for PAer's impressions
If you can stomach buying used, I believe Call of Duty 3 and Sonic are $35 at GameStop. I haven't played either and have heard very mixed reviews on each. I'm not positive, but I believe Elebits is $35 used now as well. It's a fun game when played casually.
I had no idea Godfather was $30 now. I bought it at release for $50 and it was absolutely worth it at $50. $30 is a bargain. RE4 is awesome as well. It's a very solid shooter on the Wii and the controls are very smooth.
Oh. And Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. Worth it for 35 bucks used?
I love the Wii. I believe whole-heartedly that it makes Zelda and RE4 better games. That said, the Wii version of Ultimate Alliance is awful. It's impossible to keep your shit straight in that game. One move will be a Wiimote stab, one move will be a downthrust, one will be a left or right slash, and the last will be a crazy waggle. None of these moves EVER seem to make sense with what they correspond to on-screen.
Adding to that, there's also no way to tell which move is which motion. Unless I'm blind or semi-retarded, the status screen shows you what moves you have unlocked and at what power levels, but it does not tell you what gesture you perform to do them.
In-game, you can hold the B trigger and tap A to do your special powers. There's a way to rotate through them so B+A can always be used for all your powers, so that's a positive (when you rotate through the powers like this, it does pop up an icon showing you what the corresponding gesture is, but at this point you've gone through the trouble of cycling through your moves so you can do it with the button, so what's the point?)

So yeah, Wii Ultimate Alliance is not so good.
Controls on early ported games were hit and miss. When they missed, they missed badly. UA is the key example of how not to port a game. Look at Trauma Center as a good early example. DBZ:BT 2 is the only game I can think of that lucked out. They used a really odd system that somehow turned the game into something more when you learned how to play it.
That being said, the only Wii games I've seen for cheap are either terrible, have since gone back up in price like Excitetruck, or are Super Swing Golf, which is neither terrible nor has it gone back up in price.
This Dragon Blade game that's supposed to be out in a week or two for $40 honestly looks better to me than Soul Calibur Legends.
I wish Monkey Ball and Excite Truck would drop to $20 or so; I really want both of them.
Edit: Wow, Dragon Blade has had shorter dev time, a smaller dev team, and less money thrown into it than either Rygar or Soul Calibur Legends, and yet it's the only one of the three that doesn't look like a mid-gen PS2 game. It's also the only one of the three that looks like it'll actually be fun.

Pretty much - Tecmo and Namco don't really want to develop anything for the Wii, hence why Rygar and Soul Calibur Legends are sent to bomb.
If those two titles bomb and they will, they can say to their stockholders that the Wii is hostile to their types of games.
RE4 on the Wii is remarkably good. It proves the Wii as a viable platform for shooters and I mean damnit if pointing at someone's face and then watching it explode is wrong I just do not care to be right ever again.
It's very much a must have. The sad part is that it seems to be a port of the PS2 version and not the Gamecube one, and the graphics really do suffer. That aside, the controls still pretty much define it as must buy. The additional bonus features not present in the GC version, like Ashley in the suit of armor on re-play making the Pro mode actually playable are really nice too.

I'd still put forth the argument that it's completely worth it as a budget title and arguably worth it at full price. If you're paying full price I'd suggest buying MP3 instead, but if you've got it and have the money to spend, you could do far, far worse.
It's at least worth a used purchase.

Don't do Godfather, that game is sub-GTA:SA on every level. At least, I thought so.
I know this is dumb, but as someone who is in the same position as the OP, I picked up Fire Emblem for the GC the other week and it's been burning up my Wii since then. Graphics are simple, but it's a pretty great SRPG. Nintendo should repackage that game for people who are getting bored with their Wii. Best RPG (not the story, exactly, but the mechanics) I've played in a long time.

Just to get another opinion out there, I bought the Wii version of RE4 when I already had the PS2 version, and I really regret it. The Wii controls work fine...but so did the PS2 controls. It didn't really do much for me, pointing with your wrist instead of your thumb doesn't add buckets of fun.

actually, since i just got it, I wish I could point and shoot. stupid not-zombies jumping out at me, freaking me out and making me miss.
it doesnt help that Im playing the game like Prince of Persia, namely, I keep holding L and pressing A, expecting to roll away, and I keep pressing buttons to try and melee people out of my way. but no dice.
What do places like EB give as trade in credit on RE4 GC?
Probably like a dollar.
BZZZZT. I got Nine for it today. I think a bit of it had to do with a promotion. But its worth more than a lot of things.
XBOX games in particular suck balls. I got less than 5 combined for KOTOR II and Jade Empire.
RE 4 for the GC is being sold at EB's for 17.99
that's 18 dollars not going to the developers and straight to gamestop's money grubbing hands.
Capcom's not hurting for cash.
Nor has Capcom been selling the GC version new for a couple years now.
But hey, if I buy a used Ford, the money's not going to the designers, just straight into Smilin' Bob's Used Cars's money-grubbing hands. Oh noes. Nobody should be allowed to resell anything ever.

My buddy who beat the game on the GC found the controls to be less than amazing as well.
He however has never played for more than 15 minutes straight.
There's a learning curve to the controls, is the thing. It starts out easy enough to just hit the enemies, but once you've invested a few hours in the game you can start pulling 80% accuracy on chapters making headshots only. On my pro run I did not have to repeat a single shooting gallery more than the absolute minimum number of times required to get all of the bottlecaps.

Well yeah, I said the the Wii controls work fine. Thing is, I don't' see how they make the game any more fun, which is the real concern when considering paying extra for it.
Wow, page 2 really brought on the RE4 Wii hate. For the record, I actually liked Red Steel more than most, so I could probably adjust to the controls. I'm really interested in Godfather: Blackhand now. Any more opinions on it?
Are most of the launch/'launch window' games still full price then? I played WarioWare at a friends and would love to buy it, but I can't see dropping $50 on it.
It is actually a very deliberate part of Nintendo's policy not to drop prices until several years after release. There was a big speech from Iwata (or shit, maybe even Yamiuchi, it was pretty old) a while back about how a predictable six-month price drop cycle leads to endless sequel iterations like the way Jak had what, four games throughout the lifespan of the PS2, whereas there was only one Smash Bros that gen.

That is a poor excuse, Mario Party 8.
Mario party 1 was released in 1998. 8 Sequels in 9 years over 3 systems.

If it has to have waggle, I sorta enjoyed Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, which should be $30ish. Has Trauma Center dropped in price yet?

Other than that:
RE4:Wii is a must buy at $30.
Godfather:Blackhand Edition is the best version of the game and is a definite buy as well at $30.
SSX Blur and Rayman Raving Rabbids are also $30, although your enjoyment of said games depends on your genre preference.
