Geez I've been maintain this thread since April, when I posted up that's month NPD. It's evolved into a sales discussion and the like. I just went with the flow. And as the OP, it's been my duty to update it.

I think we haven't even begun to see what the playing field is going to be like for these consoles. I have to wonder what the 60-80 million people who bought a PS2 will really do once they start to long for fresh eye candy and the HDTV they've been eyeballing at Best Buy each time they go to buy a CD or DVD finally falls to a price within reach.
Will they blindly follow brand or do some homework, or will the word of mouth of the competitors' already strong installed base lead translate to luring more defectors to non-Sony platforms?
I think that most of the sales we've seen of Wii/360/PS3 have been extreme casuals won over by novelty/Wii Sports/The iPod-esque branding, Nintendo lovers who bought the Wii after selling their Gamecube because of backwards compat/bought it for the VC, hardcore gamers who were won over by the X-Box and don't mind paying $400/wanted streamlined multiplayer/are sick of PC gaming and want similar experiences, and people who bought into the cheap bluray player Trojan horse strategy and gladly ponied up $600 while thinking, "Boy howdy, what a deal I got!."

Dude, it had 1 million preorders six and a half weeks ago. I really couldn't even say how much it has now, with advertising and shit. I mean saying 2 million seems silly, but I dunno.
Unrelated: On Friday's 1UP Yours they said that Wii disappointing performance in the last couple weeks in Japan wasn't because Nintendo have decreased the shipments, and that you could find a Wii pretty easily there.

The Wii is still quite low from its summer numbers, from ~70-60k to 27k. The scary thing is even at its worst sales it's still 2:1 over the PS3. Does anyone think the TGS will have an affect on sales? Sony had a huge presence there and showed off FFXIII and MGS4, games that Japan clamors for among other titles.
I'd say it's going to hit twice that. There are already 1.3 million pre orders world wide. I'm sure not one in three people who mean to pick up the game on launch are going to have bothered to preorder.
Dynasty Warrors 6 probably would've been a better choice, since the series continues to sell pretty well despite how much Koei milks it.
Yes. It's the very definition of console seller. Also it's predicted to be the best selliing first day entertainment release in history. Which kind of hints at it being bigger then Halo 2.
