Fatal Frame Wii announced. Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture!
Tecmo has been silent about Fatal Frame for some time now, but that doesn't mean the horror franchise has been forgotten. To the contrary, 1UP learned at Tokyo Game Show that Tecmo's enlisted the help of Grasshopper Manufacture to produce the next Fatal Frame game. And here's the kicker: it's for Wii.
Grasshopper will start on Fatal Frame when work on No More Heroes, recently announced for a US release via Ubisoft, has finished. Given that No More Heroes was developed on Wii, Grasshopper seems content on Nintendo's console.
Taking photographs of ghouls has been a part of Fatal Frame since day one, so motion controls certainly make sense for the series, but the last we heard about the next Fatal Frame seemed to have Microsoft and Sony's consoles in mind. "I already have some ideas that I'd like to do if I had more development time and a more powerful system," said Fatal Frame 3 Producer Keisuke Kikuchi all the way back in July 2005.
Then again, in 2005, no one knew Wii was going to blow up, either.
I never played any of these games (they are called "project zero" in the UK right?) but with this and TimeSplitters 4, looks like the Wii is getting the 3rd party avalanche that the N64 and Gamecube never had. Devs are obviously taking notice of the sales figures.
Edit: I realised some people might not recognise the name Grasshopper Manufacture, I suggest you check out their wikipedia entry. They are most famous for Killer7
First one pissed me off so much, I never bothered with the second one. Not really sure what to do with this information.

There are 3, actually. This would be the 4th. I finished the first 2 but the 3rds emphasis on different people with different camera (one of which had SHITTY stats) made me unable to finish it.

I love Fatal Frame, so this news pleases me greatly. If it were built from the ground up to incorporate Metroid Prime 3 levels of interactivity, I would finally cave and buy a Wii for this title alone. Everything else would probably be icing.

3rd had the best atmosphere. I feel. Even when you weren't asleep(yes you got to sleep and go toa dream "evil" house.) you didn't feel safe in your own home(apartment). I think you mean Kei, the dude when you say shitty stats. I liked to think of him as a sniper. He could take pictures from far away and there was a big emphasis on just not being seen by ghosts when you were playing as him. As the super evil witch lady was always after him.
but wikipedia makes things oh so simple for me with this little plot chart
Does the plot seem complex at first, but then you realize it is stupid like in MGS2?

The problem with Fatal Frame is once you get over the shock factor of 'OMG Ghost coming from wall!' it becomes tedious to play. You just want the game to end, but the developer stuff in 1,000 miles of backtracking that it just never seem to ends.
But you want to see how the game ends, because the story is pretty good.

No, it's not complex at all. That is merely the web that binds the various characters over the course of the series. The plots of the game have nothing to do with those connections at all.

In that case, the creators of Killer7 should be well equipped.
Why do people keep building houses on top of Gateways to Hell? Why?
There's only so much land out there that isn't plagued by vengeful spirits infected by demonic forces which require cruel and sadistic rituals to keep them at bay. Japan is basically a giant sieve around Hell.
One thing I recall from Fatal Frame 3, other than it scaring the crap out of me more than any previous installment, is that Kei's hide ability was basically useless against things that can go through walls. However, the first instance he gets to use it is against a ghost so comically slow he could almost walk around it without being injured. Cue Yakkity Sax until it leaves.
Also, fuck the thing with the shopping cart, whatever the hell that was about. :x

Yeah man, it was all vroom vroom I'ma poppin out from a ound the corner pushing maybe a hot dog cart or maybe a baby carriage and I might have a gasmask on or be an old haggard lady I don't even know because either way you're terrified as fuck.
This might be enough to make me give the series another shot. After it was raved about here on the forums I picked up the first game I absolutley loved the atmosphere, really genuinely creepy, then the camera battle mechanics kicked in and it all went to shit. Good God how I hated that. Gave up about half way through the game because I couldn't stand it any more.
This could be a true example of 'would be better on Wii'.
I played through FF 1, but, as others have said, it became really tedious, and I stopped enjoying it long before the end. It was really scary, though, and the story was very good, even if the voice acting wasn't.
I have FF 2, but I haven't actually played it for more than 5 minutes. Is it better in the gameplay department?

All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.

Better character control as well as camera control. A bunch more camera updares and ways to customize as well as a better story and scarier atmosphere...plus improved graphics. You can't go wrong.
I fucking love Fatal Frame. It blows Silent Hill out of the water as far as I'm concerned. 2 was the weakest but 1 and 3 are amazing games. They're the only games that come close to scaring me anymore.
i've always thought it'd be so easy....SO FLIPPIN EASY to make a legitimately scary video game or movie. To be honest, i think video games have become far better than their cinematic counterparts. The horror genre in Hollywood is bloody awful, despite the fact that establishing a moody atmosphere to creep out the viewer is much more effective and practical than cheap surprises. games that i know that have accomplished that in the past are FEAR, AVP1(fuckin face hugger in the med wing...) and several of the silent hills. I'm sure there's more but i haven't played them.
With the interactive nature of the wii-mote, I'm expecting a really neat flashlight mechanic or something along those lines. this game has the potential to be incredibly eerie and that gets me excited
The thing about horror movies in Hollywood is that they're not really that scary. The music will get quiet... quieter.... things will move slowly then BOOM!!!! something major happens. But that's not scary... That's surprising. I've never really been "scared" from a movie since... Arachnophobia (which is funny, because I am now scared to death of spiders because of that movie).
Another addition is the bloody violent torture movies. Those are scary, they are disgusting. Why would I want to see some guys body get torn apart, or stretched until it tore him apart? That's just sadistic, not scary.
I've only seen the first game but I'll probably pick this up when the time comes.
Evil Ghosts are scarier than zombies right? ...
I'm still waiting for a game to do truly scary slow zombies. Creeping death, watching your comrades fall one at a time as they make a single small mistake that costs them, impossible odds. Zombies in most games seem to just be cannon fodder that like popping out of things. They Hunger actually did it pretty well, and it seems like Left4Dead could make me jump more than any zombie game I've tried previously (RE games did have their moments).

something along the lines of 28days/weeks later would be awesome - those movies did zombies right.

Wow. Seeing this thread and the Timesplitters 4 thread made me a happy Wii owner.

Because that's really all K7 had going for it.

Now playing: Teardown and Baldur's Gate 3 (co-op)
Sunday Spotlight: Horror Tales: The Wine
I wonder if they'll keep the same visual style.
I can't hope but wonder why they switched developers; I thought Team Zero kept doing consistently good work.
Also, they kept throwing random Deception references into the series, which I really appreciated.
(Millenia[Deception 2 protagonist]'s costume is unlockable in Fatal Frame 2.)
But I can see how it would be great for a more interactive console like the Wii.

If I can't have Silent Hill on the Wii, this is a damn good substitute.

But I digress.
Try watching something like Inland Empire.

I hope this makes Konami consider something like Silent Hill: Twin Alessa or something on the Wii.
