and while most of you heathens will berate me for my idea (which is stolen I'm sure), but I believe that as along as bat-shit insane George Lucas can get not one, but
two tv series going for Star Wars, then my idea will work. Could work. Might work.
Aliens - the show. Yes. I said it. Aliens. Not Aliens vs. Predator, subtitled:
The shitfest. But a REAL, weekly, show set in that universe. Imagine the awesomeness. Drop-ships, Colonial marines, pulse rifles, ooze, drones, queens, dark, gritty, gory. Let's get Joss Whedon on it, hell, let's get William Gibson on it. You want to see their chops? Read the script of what should have been Alien 3:

There's plenty of back story and a million arcs that could be written, look at the plethora of alien comic books. Yes, not all of them are amazing. But... the
idea is there.
Discuss. Flame On!

I did always want a cartoon series based on the Alien action figures. It would be a cool chance to showcase different alien variants that haven't managed to work their way into the movie series. And hey, the Predators could occasionally guest-star. So yeah, that would be a cool show.
EDIT: That screenplay is simply amazing.

what.
the major cable networks have heaps of money. the trick is getting them to devote it to your show.
edit: i think i see what you mean. you meant the cable channels as opposed to the fox's and nbc's. sorry
you mean the cgi starship troopers show? or was there something else?
The former. The whole show was built around a small platoon of Earth MI as they went on different campaigns - I think they ultimately covered 4-5 different campaigns over the run of the series.
I'd watch an alien show, but I agree that it would be a huge budget. It might have to much "camp" appeal too. Horror doesn't generally do too well as a series (anyone remember the nightmare on elm street/friday the 13th series?)
posit \POZ-it\, transitive verb:
1. To assume as real or conceded.
2. To propose as an explanation; to suggest.
3. To dispose or set firmly or fixedly.
Also, yes, the link is SFW, just some offices block it, my old one did for no reason.
Budget!? Look at the budget they gave Friends for crying out loud. Over a million an episode in it's final few seasons? Look at Star Trek! This could be the great hit of our generation. It could be done so well. It's not just horror, it's sci-fi horror. Look at the dreck they put all over TV, what series are genuinely worth watching?
I see your point on camp appeal, everyone afraid it's going to be cheezy as all hell. I have a dream that shows a well-written, darkly shot, week to week series with an overall arc. If I could write as well as William Gibson does, I'd submit one of my own, alas my talents in that regard are sorely lacking.
I've read it before and wasn't all that impressed, full grown aliens bursting out of people. Implantation by virus, etc. The life cycle of the alien is perfect the way it is, no reason to screw with it. Still would have been better than the actual Alien 3.
If you want a running story that won't be campy, base it *somewhat* on this series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Hive
Picture a bunch of humans on Earth fighting against each other and the aliens for survival. Can even progress from the initial outbreak to full blown contamination of the Earth making the series darker as it goes. Though you'd have to really put it in capable hands, horror is so hard to do *as seen by the last 2 Alien movies*.
I asked for discussion, so it's ok to say it sucks. hehe
I'm now going to find Earth Hive and read it.
With all the IP's from the past being redone and f'ed up beyond all recognition (see Bionic Woman).
Good example: see Battlestar Galactica - which is being cancelled/finished all too soon as well.
You'd think someone would pitch this, especially with AVP2 coming out next month.
Basically these illegal aliens from countries all over the world come to live illegally in the United States to escape their shithole countries. They all live under one roof in this house which is rented to them by an old couple who just recently retired. The drama in the show comes from how they have to handle everyday basic shit as illegals in a post-crazy as hell America. The fear of being deported is never far from their minds. Racism and prejudice will also come up when so many people of different backgrounds are in one home, but as their struggles become similar and they work together they will realize they have many things in common and the barriers and hate will break down. Together they will triumph and make their living in America.
Yes.
I read that, goddamn ages ago, and I loved it. It's... interesting. And it manages to keep the feel of Aliens, but puts a whole new spin on things.
The first two in that trilogy are very good, third isn't AS good but does wrap up the series nicely. Definitely recommend them if you are an Alien fan.
You can say what you want to about the script... I thought it was great. You have to at least admit though it's better than what alien 3 ended up being....
O_o
Also, I forgot AvP2 came out so soon. The trailer for it looks great, everything the first one should have been. Hopefully it does well and we can get a real one. Aliens vs Predator vs Space Marines, with James Cameron directing *he has expressed interest in the past*.
sorry for that, didn't catch the last part there and thought he said alien 3 was better the way it was....
also, if cameron came back on board, I would be all up for that idea.
Maybe James Earl Jones could narrate.

Or maybe Gainax or something would work too, I suppose.
