I priced my UFO painting (the one my sig is from) at $1000 because I want to keep it, and I figure if someone ponies up that much, they must really want it, so they can have it. :D

If anyone wants to show me how to make a .pdf I'll put one together when I'm sitting at the gallery with exactly nothing to do!

what program are you making your catalogs/brochures in? If it's InDesign, it's simply eporting it as a PDF. Otherwise, god only knows...

You can make a .pdf pretty painlessly in photoshop.

I use photoshop pretty much exclusively. A multi-page .pdf in photoshop? Goodness this is news to me.

edit: hey i just found it and it IS painless. Photoshop, you are amazing. That's another project for tomorrow then. :D

    It's officially today! oh god!

all my work is hung and i've decked out the space for a delightful party atmosphere. the proper daylight gallery fluros killed any ambience, so I've got lamps ahoy. It's dim but not too dim, with some spotlights here and there. I have pictures but I'm too fucking tired to post them right now.

Anyway, feeling good, despite spending fucktonnes of cash on booze, food and other shit. I think I've decided to reframe my view of tonight as just being an expensive party. Also I was supposed to be in the paper today and I didn't get one delivered! cry!

Good luck on the show DR, hope you make a fuckton of money or at least enough to feed you for a few weeks. Don't forget to be a pretentious asshole and insult EVERYONE you meet, that will give you an air of a brilliance, because ALL socially disfuntional people are brilliant.

and you were worried you wouldn't be able to fill it.....shame on you.

Seriously this looks like a show I would actually want to go to. The robot factory picture looks twice as epic in this photo for some reason, maybe because it's got some scale.

I'd say make sure you make high quality digital back-ups of your work before the buyers pick them up, but... Good luck scanning those big-arse canvases!

Ya that was my querry too, I think he blew it all on drugs though, and is currently in a coma. On the plus side, drug coma dreams will spawn the next series of paintings.

I haven't done all the tallying up of reciepts versus earnings yet. I did spend a lot of money on booze and food for everyone, hiring the venue, canvas + paint etc...

But... it's looking pretty damn good. ;D I've sold all but 5 so far. Out of about 20 pieces? Most of them sold in the first hour!

Only disadvantage is that now you don't get that starving artist patina.

I ask again, did you sell the one in your sig?

No, no. I wanted to keep it so I priced it really high. I was secretly hoping some of my friends who are in a ridiculously successful band would buy it, but it was too big for their houses.

So there's a lesson learned. Too big = no sale. The three huge ones haven't budged.

If you don't mind me asking what was your average price?

The ones that have sold vary from, uh, quite small, to ... say... fairly large!

The biggest to sell was 60" by 30", three of those sold in both landscape and portrait. The biggest canvas I work on is 60"x40" in landscape.

You can see the prices when I upload my catalog pdf for y'all to browse. :)

So still, you sold some huge ones either way. I think you should be very proud of yourself, even if the biggest didn't sell. Paintings that large are hard to find places for.

I didn't mean to sound like I wasn't proud. I think it's gone amazingly well. But that's something I hadn't considered which is quite obvious; the bigger the painting, the bigger the imposition on someones living space and the less likely they would be to buy it.

Solution... invite more business owners along!
