One of the questions I had on a test in High School was to draw 3 examples of a smiley.

    Internetting 101
It was actually the highest level computing class we had in my high school.

The teacher was a total fucking moron.

She had a teachers aide that she slobbered over as the smartest person ever when it came to computers. Took the dude an entire school year to build a computer. I'm not even sure how that's possible.

When I look at my high school education, I'm amazed that I'm not working at wal-mart or something.

    Jesus.

Did he just plug stuff in at random until it worked?

If you spill a drink on your keyboard (especially something sugary) and all of the keys stick and it stops working you can take a shower with it and then let it dry for a few days and it will be fine.

This actually worked for me, twice now.

I've been doing IT work for about 6 years now and did my first 4 years in the US Navy on a ship. I was on watch one night and one of my co workers was babysitting the phone. It was like 2 in the morning and we had an understanding around the boat that you dont call past 11pm unless your computer is on fire.

Some asshole calls and complains that his internet wasn't working. We fight the urge to tell him to fuck off and check the user manager. The kid was fresh out of boot camp and wasn't even supposed to have internet access. My co worker then proceeds to tell him to check his "Flux Capacitor". When asked the location of this part my friend responds "Check behind the terabyte panel".

He goes on for the next 20 minutes making shit up as I try not to break down into spasmic laughter. Finally he tells the guy to call back in the morning becuase it was "a problem we cant handle at the moment". He told me later that the guy put down the phone and everything when asked to look somewhere. Classic.

    Not when it's unplugged.

Most people I know stick 'em in the dishwasher, with no soap. Don't run 'em through the dry cycle though.

Water will damage some electronics whether there is current running through it or not. Drop a cell phone without it's battery in water and see what happens in a week.

It has 2 batteries, one to run the clock/calender. Just like a computer, xbox, or anything else that keeps time without batteries.

Also, a cell phone is a lot more complex. Water gets under the plastic screen and never comes out.

I guess it's possible that elements in the water may have been left behind and caused a short but water alone doesn't actually harm electronics at all. Pure (distilled) H20 is a perfect insulator.

Washing the keyboard in the shower does work, just drying it afterwards takes a while. Just don't be a moron like me and leave it on top of the dryer while it's running in hopes of it drying faster, damn thing melted. D: Yea, I was like 10, blah.

I had a cell go through

the battery was toast, the water under the screens dried out in two weeks, and the only thing not working is the microphone but I think that might be from when it went through the drier too :(
