The art style in this game is just phenomenally cool. I'd still be playing if the battery wasn't charging. Such an interesting story, and the main character Kyle is a refreshing character to play as in a Nintendo game. Anyone else playing, played or thinking about playing this game?
Played. Loved. Only wish it had better replay value. This also stems from my desire to not see a good story end, though so I wouldn't weigh that opinion much.
The story was very refreshing like you said and very intricate. I was personally taken back by the ending. I hadn't a clue the story arc was going to take the turn of events it did. Excellent development, great cast of characters, very film noir.
A fantastic game. I'm still waiting to forget the big plot twist and all of the significant details and puzzle solutions so that I can play through it a second time for the best ending.
I had been planning to buy this game, but then I found Phoenix Wright for cheap, and decided to buy it to tide me over until I purchased Hotel Dusk. Then I really liked Phoenix Wright, and went and bought and played through the sequel. And now I'm thinking of buying Hotel Dusk to tide me over until I finally purchase Trials and Tribulations.
Funny how that turned out. And after recently purchasing Brain Age, I've found I really like holding a DS sideways... It's a very different feel from vertically arranged games.

Let me second this. More games need to have their characters look like crinkled-up pencil-sketches. When I first turned it on, and saw the opening where Kyle is driving down the highway in black and white, then as he locks eyes with the girl he's passing, time slows down and the scenery fills with color for a few fleeting seconds, I knew I was in for a treat.
Funny, I started a new game a couple days ago, because I can't for the life of me remember any of the stuff except for the absolutely ridiculous plot twists.
It is slow and plodding, and I get stuck on the dumbest shit imaginable. Right now I just am wandering around the hotel with now idea where to do, and the last 45 minutes of gameplay has been dull beyond the point of imagining.
Does this say more about me than it does about the game? Quite possibly. But since I have instituted a NO GAMEFAQS policy I'm a lot more severe on games that I feel leave me hanging.
I'm at about 9 or 10 pm, and I really enjoy it, but I play it a section at a time. Sometimes, that's a bit of a hassle, because I'll forget what I'm supposed to be doing, but otherwise, fantastic game.

There was really only one point in the game where I was so stuck I needed to check a FAQ.
I loved the art style and classic crime novel atmosphere, but I found the plot and general gameplay to end up being pretty meh. Lots of good ideas here, though.
It has a journal mode. That can recap what you are up to. That is really helpful.
...unless you're at the spot where the old lady finally left the cafeteria and you're left to wander and every door you go to has nothing interesting behind it.

Well either I'm there, or you're smarter than me. Thanks for rubbing it in.

Wait, are you at the part with
the pen that you can't read?
Because that sounds like the section you're on and that part was kind of stupid.

IIRC, you're there. It's the game's one flaw - one part leaves you aimless and it's hard to figure out what to do.
Great, great game. Well developed characters and a genuinely interesting, intricate storyline that wraps up in a surprising, intelligent, and satisfying way. Good music too.
Puzzle-wise there was some very creative stuff also. Frustrating moments as well, but not so much that it hampered the game. I had to look for answers a few times and felt like a dummy when i did.

No I got the pen, I'm just after that.
Shit. I would really like to get past where I got stuck, but I got stuck there like a month ago so I don't know if I can describe my situation really well.
I put the game down after starting it anew upon getting to the front desk.
now I restarted with new game + and I'm already tired of the slow dialogue rate. But by God I'll replay this because I love it the first time, even if there were some really, really, really dumb parts.
The music that plays during the chapter recap quizzes, stupid as they were, is some of my favorite video game music ever. I don't know what it is about it, I just somehow find the combination of the baseline and the percussion almost hypnotizing...
Best DS game of 2007 without a doubt. I got lost in it for a couple days, the atmosphere, the music, the dialog, pretty much everything about it was amazing. The writing I think is some of the best and most subtle ever in a game. Which is especially amazing considering it's a translation from Japanese.
I bought this game in the spring IIRC, based on good things said about it on this board. It is a gorgeous game and I would love to see more games made in the same IF style. I did however get really bored with the beginning of the game and put it down for a while. Since I have a bad habit of buying new DS games before I finish what I already have I bought something else and haven't played it for several months now. I'm really disappointed that I didn't get farther in the game before putting it down because I don't feel super compelled to pick it back up and finish it.

Voice actor for hire. My time is free if your project is!
I've filed him beside all the awesome characters that share my name.
...Okay, it's just him and Kyle KAtarn.
Really? What's your name?
I've been thinking about picking this up recently, if only to encourage people to think outside the box more when making games. Not that I'm saying every game needs to be a revolution (I like the Zelda series, so that should tell you something), but I always love seeing new ideas.

I'd like to play this game, but first I'd have to find it.
Hey, I have a blog! (Actually being updated again!)

Assuming they have an entry for Hotel Dusk (they must).

"Oh, hey kid. You left your puzzle piece on the stairs."
"Take my pen. Just don't steal it."
It would be an awesome movie if you replaced the entire story with something with slightly more going on.
i'll admit the end of the game does get pretty intense, storywise. But the beginning, good lord it's boring.
They're still around? I used to use them for the Monkey Island games when I got stuck.
Yes, I was an impatient little kid.
Turn it into a noir piece.
I didn't say "translate the game moment to moment". I said "adapt".

I don't know if you meant that as a joke, but ooooooh man.
