mcc's Game of the Year 2007 Poll [Nominations]

ImranImran Registered User regular
edited December 2007 in Games and Technology
mcc said that, for whatever reason, his account here no longer works, so he wanted to get nominations for his poll here as well through a proxy.
mcc wrote:
Crossposted Platformers, 360a, here:

Hi,

For the last few years I've been doing an open GOTY poll on a couple of forums including this one. I'm doing it again this year and the poll will be open the first week of January; you will be able to access it here. Although the poll won't be for another few weeks, though, there's one thing I need to get out of the way now: Nominations.

The GOTY polls I do are different from the polls you normally see. Usually in a poll you have a list of like five or six options, and you pick the one you like best. This is not how this poll works. In this poll, I list-- or try to list-- every goddamn game that came out in the last year, and people vote for all the games they liked, in order of preference. In previous years voters have been allowed to vote for up to twenty games. This means we get some really interesting results that normal polls wouldn't even capture, concerning games that maybe were overall less popular, but do have diehard fans. This is what this looked like last year, if you want to see.

In order for this to work, though, I need a REALLY complete list of nominations. So, I need your help: Please list for me ANY games that you think you MIGHT CONSIDER voting for in a GOTY poll. It would probably be enough to just list the games you played this year. For each game, I need to know the exact list of platforms (PS3, 360, PC) that it was released on.

Thanks!

Note: IN ORDER FOR A GAME TO BE INCLUDED ON THIS LIST, IT MUST HAVE BEEN RELEASED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN AMERICA SOMETIME DURING 2007. NO IMPORTS. REMAKES, PORTS, RERELEASES AND EXPANSIONS/MODS COUNT ONLY IF THEY HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY REMADE FROM THE ORIGINAL-- AN HD UPGRADE DOESN'T COUNT.

(Question: Should The Orange Box be listed as one game, or should the games be listed individually? I'm leaning toward the latter.)

Since mcc didn't make the thread here, he can't update the OP. I do think he'll update this one, but the actual poll, like he said, will take the suggestions from all the threads.

This list seems to have most of the games that really count, but it does seem rather limited.

I also find it kind of odd that a game like Wario Ware: Smooth Moves can make the list but that there are no PS3 exclusives whatsoever. Splitting up the Orange Box into separate games seems like a great way to include it and makes things a little more balanced though.

I think you guys are missing this point of the thread

This is to amass a list of games anyone might vote for in their top 20 games of the year, the games in the OP aren't a list

I mean, I think that something like this should at least be a combined effort put forth by a couple different people, perhaps more. Preferably, there wouldn't be a lot of overlap in what systems and games those people own, as well as the tastes in games that they have. One person can only own so many systems and games after all.

Yeah, this isn't a final list. The actual voting isn't happening until January, the point of this thread is to assemble the list.

I can't really think of anything to add, but I don't have a 360, PS3, or decent PC. Get crackin'!

The idea is that it's the combined opinions of everyone on the forum. Everyone will be allowed to vote for their personal top 20 in the poll, and everyone can suggest games for the list here.

Posts like "Man, this list has a lack of *platform* on it." is not helpful.
Neither is "This is a big project that a lot of people should work on".

I haven't played a ton of games, so I'll list what I can think of. I'd say World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, but it isn't a significant change over the base game.

    Picross DS
    Pokemon Diamond (haven't played pearl)
    Knytt Stories (PC)
    Rock Band

.... Wow, I really haven't played many games this year. Jeesh.

    do multiplayer only games count?

because I think Warhawk should get SOME consideration.

I mean, it basically made up for the disappointment that was Lair.

Would Sam & Max: Season One count for 2007? I think the first two episodes came out in 06, with the last four released in 07. The collection of em all together came out in 07, though. If it counts, I'd put it on the list. It's a PC game.

Odin Sphere (PS2) was pretty good. GrimGrimoire (PS2) too, I imagine, although I haven't gotten a chance to play that one myself.

Oh! And Legend of Spyro: Eternal Night (GBA). I'd totally vote for that.

Might as well throw Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (Wii) on the list too.

I vote for separating the Orange Box into Portal, TF2 and Ep2.

Why wouldn't they? The indy game scene has become really big this year (which reminds me, I should nominate De blob, but I can't remember if it came out this year)... And besides, Warhawk did get a B&M release, so it should not have any problems in that regard.

Was Sonic this year? I thought it came out during last year's launch. I honestly can't remember.
