What was that Korean one that everyone was raving about? I think it came out this year, was supposedly a fantastic monster/horror movie, and was on its way here in limited release form?

fuck I saw Salo at the movies about 10 years ago (film festival) - only film i've seen most of the audience walk out of, which I guess was due to the amazingly realistic sexual torture. Basically it was one of the few films that has made me genuinely angry
The scariest movie I have ever seen is a Thai film called Shutter. It is pretty awesome and has some really scary moments without just falling into a gore-fest.
Though, I'm usually partial to Korean horror ones myself, so I'd recommend any of the Whispering Corridors series. Highly recommend you check that out. R Point, Bunshinsaba (I was surprised this one wasn't a Whispering Corridor one myself, ah well...), The Host (already mentioned), and Red Shoes are other good ones to check out. K-Horror is nearly identical to J-Horror, but not nearly as super gory. More towards Ju-On, Ringu etc.
I'd guess you could call any of the Vengeance Trilogy (OldBoy, Sympathy for Mrs. Vengeance, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance) a horror movie. But, there's a lot more going on and they are all around great movies to watch.
If you are into Asian horror for the creepiness and not fucking whacked out gross shit, it's probably what you are looking for.
Korean Horror:
A Tale of Two Sisters (Gothic Horror with a "Six Sense" style twist).
The Host (Redefined the Monster movie. This is what "Cloverfield" is trying to be for America.)
Awesome other Korean movies:
An unconnected "Vengeance Trilogy" (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance) uses similar themes and shares actors, but are all AWESOME and excessively violent at times.
Samaria (This movie fucked up. Seriously. DEPRESSING BEYOND BELIEF.)
Oasis (The saddest romance movie I've ever watched. I can't watch it twice because it makes me tear up, but I made sure to buy it on DVD because I love it so much and want to share it.)

and i remember one about a newspaper that told terrible futures.
Oh yea you may wanna bring your puke bag if you decide to watch audition. I am a horror movie fanatic and still that movie managed to turn my stomach.
Oh man, that movie is freaky.
The Host.

Great movie tho.
granted, the makeup on the girl was awesome, and so were the effects. but that movie was pretty bad
Ring of course.
Nothing by Takashi Miike unless you think Saw is for little girls.
It's not really horror, but it is completely awesome.
Rings 1 & 2 are great.

I suppose that's true. That one guy does eat a heart though. God I love this movie.
