friendships and the remaking of such

so on new years eve i unexpectedly ran into a friend i had a bit of a falling out with...
a while back i slept with his ex...they'd been broken up for a couple years but i still regretted almost instantly because he got very angry with me.
but when we met it was like nothing had ever happened, and in the spirit of the new year we decided to put it all behind us
and then he tells me he has some form of aggressive cancer, which makes me really glad that we made up so i can spend as much time with him as possible
When I was in jr high school, I fought my best friend over some silly shit.
Best decision I ever made, as the other group of friends I then hung out with introduced me to weed, women and w...eally good music. Plus their parents didn't make me help clean the house when I stayed over, and instead let us alone to do whatever.
I met a friend a couple months back that I havent talked to since high school and gave him my number and hung out and shit and he still never calls me.
I think maybe Im cursed to be alone and hang around you faggots for the rest of my natural life.
How can he be angry about an ex he dumped over a year ago? He quit it, it's fair game.
Nah, it's considered socially inappropriate where I am. Once your friend has been with that girl, she's off limits to you. That's just how it is. It's not wrong, just impolite.

I had an ex date a friend of mine about 2 months after we parted and we continued to get along fine. She ended up marrying him and after five years together, he found out she had been sleeping with a co-worker for 6 months so he divorced her. The only way my friendship with Jeff affected my relationship with her is that she knew after she cheated on him she wasn't welcome or respected anymore and I haven't heard from her since.
And it seems childish to me to hang on at all to someone you separated from. It didn't work out, man up and move on and let someone else have a go even if it's a friend.

What I'm saying is that although there may be some cases where that's OK to do, in most cases, most of the people who I know would not consider that socially acceptable.
EDIT: It has nothing to do with "manning up," either. It's just commonly considered impolite here.
The only problem I have with the whole "sleeping with a friend's ex" is when you are like directly after your friend in the "line of boyfriends" for her.
I dunno, something about knowing that my bud's wang is going the same place mine was recently is just disturbing to me.
Yes I know that's completely irrational, don't worry.

because I'll always win
and modest
It just seems like bad taste to sleep with a friend's ex to me. In general.
