Seems like all the older game on threads died, figured with the new demo there might be some interest in a game on.
What do i need to play?
Dark crusade (durrrr) Preferably with the two previous games for more Orky goodness (read races in multiplayer) You can get it on steam nowadays, people love steam right?
Patched to 1.2 Here or use the online patching thing
Also hamachi, which makes a virtual lan of sorts get it here

I've only ever played on PA servers once, but I'm pretty good. I recall some foo trying to outshoot my fire warriors with dark reapers and no rangers.

You might have to DL an update, but you can play against people with the expansions.

The cross compatability REQUIRES DC as a base.

(A) You can play with anyone else with any of the expansions.
(B) You can play with anyone else as long as you have an overlap (ie the guy with only DC could play with the dude with DC and Vanilla)
(C) You can't play with anyone unless you all have the exact same expansions (ie everyone who is playing needs DC AND Vanilla, and the dude with DC and Gold is SOL)

The best way to think of it is this:
Dark Crusade (NOT VANILLA) is the actual game being played here. To play, you MUST have DC.
If you have DC, you can play with anyone using DC, regardless of any extras (vanilla, WA) they have.
If you ONLY have DC, you can only play Tau and Necrons online, but as above, you can play against other people who have more.
If you have DC + Vanilla installed, you get Tau, Necrons, + "core" races.
If you have DC + Vanilla + WA, you get all of the above + IG.
So basically, DC turned the entire thing around. Vanilla is more like an expansion to DC as far as multiplayer goes, and WA is another expansion that requires vanilla.
edit: Apparently playing the computer on hard ≠ playing against another person. I know this, yet I can't accept it.
