Here are a few basic computer ground rules. First: When in doubt, restart! If your copy of Audiosurf is acting the fool (saying you have the demo when you've payed for the full version, for example), restart Steam and try again before you come into the thread with a question that's been asked 40 times. Which leads into the second rule: RTFT -- Read the flipping thread. There's a good chance someone's asked it already, if not then you'll be adding something to the discussion, and everyone will like you more.

Alright, for those who haven't played it before:
Audiosurf is a music puzzle game that could be described as part Guitar Hero, part
KLAX and maybe part racing game. The game lets you load up (almost) any song on your computer, or from a CD and then play through a course created from that song. When the song goes fast, the track you run on will dip and you'll speed up, when the song is mellow the track will slope gently upward and you'll go slowly. The track will also bump along to the beat, and in some cases (nobody seems exactly sure which) the track will twist and writh, making in very hard to hit or avoid blocks.
And hitting or avoiding blocks is what the game is about. During the song you speed down the track in control of one of the games many "cars," each of which has different abilities and goals. You'll be tasked with either hitting and collecting coloured blocks (the different colours mean different points, red and yellow are worth more and come at the more "intense" moments of a song, softer colours like blue and purple are worth less, but are more common), which will pile up in 3 vertical columns. Once you group 3 or more blocks of the same colour they'll disappear and you'll get points. If you overfill a column then you'll be penalized by losing points, and, in harder difficulties, you'll be forced to wait as a ghost while you respawn, passing up valuable blocks and power-ups all the while.
The other major mode of play is Mono, in which there are only 2 colours of blocks. You must avoid all grey blocks and hit every other. Consecutive hits of coloured blocks gives more points, hitting greys forces you to clear them out and lose points. A lot of people prefer Mono, but I don't really like it.
Other than that, there's a lot going on. Power-ups of various types and special bonuses you can receive after the song is over for ending with a clear board or collecting a certain percentage of red or yellow blocks, etc.
And every song has an internet scoreboard, so you can compete for the best scores on all your favourites.

I wonder what they up they updated?
Here. Download.
If anyone else can get back about how it's working it'd be great. I have to go cook dinner now.

What the fuck is Audiosurf?

Imagine F-Zero where the tracks are created from what ever music you have on your computer.
It is so good.
slow music goes UPHILL
intense music makes DOWNWARD spirals and slopes
puzzles mixed with racing mixed with awesome.
do NOT play breakbeats, or aphex twin. you will hurl.
muse, mogwai and daft punk are particularly luscious choices.
really, bring this game back now.
right now.
NOW!
Only it's changed up some fonts, added more visual effects, greyed out anything but pusher in medium and ninja mono on hard (which is just as well). Also, it seems to have disabled jumping on Ninja Mono, which is odd given that it still says "press spacebar to jump."
Aside from that, still seems to work, scoreboards and all.
I've played about 5 songs after the update...curious to see if it keeps playing.
Yeah, I noticed that too. Fortunately, it's just a typo -- you can still jump, but it's left click now.
Freezepop works well.

Just run the game. It should update itself. If it doesn't then be sure to post. Maybe it's just that download, and maybe it will only work for people who already have it (unlikely, but you never know).

Whenever I try to access my music it gives me a "Demo Expired" message and tells me to buy the full version when it is released.
Don't waste the 4 or 5 songs it gives you
I doubt it. Not even Valve is supporting Win2K anymore.
It seems to let you play more songs if you are willing to exit and restart the game. It will let you play one song each time. I guess it is a hassle-ware type thing (or a programming mistake).
when is it out?
how much?
I guess that's Napster's famous DRM kicking in?
He said he was introducing that to stop people from renaming songs to longer or more intense tracks to gain higher scores.
=(
I will pay for this if they release the damn thing. Fuck, I'd pay in advance if it meant I got to mess around with the Beta in the interim.
So it's F-zero. In some cases.
F-zero tracks are pretty wacky though.
Edit - Oh, turns out this is demo mode or some shit. You can only play so many songs and then it stops you. What a bitch.
I'm sticking with easy. The harder ones are too stressful for the kind of mellow enjoyment I want out of my music.
Also, I need more slow music.
If you like the game, wait it out and buy the thing, support the guy who's made the effort here.
