So I lost my job Sunday night. My boss called me to let me know that we've done such a great job that where ahead of where he usually is and he no longer need half of us. So me and 4 other people are out of a job.
I work part time at a local GameStop and so my boss there is giving me some extra hours while I find a new job. So far no good though. 2 days in and I've applied in persron to 5 places and online at 12. Hopeing for a call back. Also theres on face to face interviews at a new SubWay opening up and some new grill place called Z Grill on thursday so I guess I'll see how that goes.
Anywho I figured I'm not the first person to have the unemployed/underemployed blues so I figured I'd make a thread so we can all talk about when we lost good jobs, quit bad ones, and how we all found good ones again!

I lost my job a few years back when funding didn't come through. I lived off my unemployment benefits for 8 months before I finally got another job.
those were the best 8 months. waking up at 11 every day, going to the gym, lounging about. it was rad.

I will be moving this weekend, and then looking for a job in North Carolina. I will probably go back to Kelly temp services, they did right by me last time I went there.

How are temp services and such? There a place around here called Manpower that sets you up with temp jobs that I've been thinking about looking into.
I am mentally flailing when it comes to thinking about life after college
Whats your degree in? I'm going for nursing so I know when I'm done it'll be super ass easy to get a job. Also are you willing to relocate? I have a friend who had to move to NY city for his job, but it pays super good.
I would like to quit my job and move to new york with a college friend, and see what happens, go on wacky adventures and whatnot. I basically want my life to be like the movies or tv

I relocate all over the place all the time
I'm an international studies (or affairs or relations or whatever your college calls it) and spanish double major

replace "quit my job" with "graduate" and that's my plan

I worked for Diebold and the board of elections in the neighboring county for 3 weeks prior to the November 2005 election on the voting machines. It was fat pay for easy work. Plus they paid mileage for me to drive out there. I don't even know how they found me. I just got an email one day from some third party temp agency out of nowhere. It was great since it happened in the middle of me being unemployed for the month and a half prior.

My friends who live there have horror stories about the cost of living though. My friend wants me to move with her into a nice 3-bedroom Manhattan apartment, but the rent is like $1300 a month for one person. Oh ma god, what? Also, job hunting there is intimidating as hell.
Right now I'm trying to network my way into a paid position in Oregon, otherwise I'll just live off my stipend from last month/my mutual fund that I still need to cash out.
I've been promised a job for the General Election by the woman who was state director in Cali, though, so I just have to survive until july.

You can be an ambassador.
or a translator.
or a teacher.
or a trophy wife.
ideally I would like to do something I like but doesn't kill me or make me want to kill myself

Man trust me. Wacky adventures end up badly. Usually wind up with me and at least 1 friend lost in the woods/mountains/City poor and in pain. I've had all my wacky adventures when I was younger.

Well, thats more than twice what I pay for rent now at a pretty decent place, including utilities. Though yeah, her place is a dream place. It is a short walk away from the best little hole in the wall ramen place in the city.
i have a phone interview with microsoft in about 2 hours
i am so nervous
good luck
thanks
i'm not sure of what i'm more afraid of
being completely stumped by some question they ask me
or having a sudden onset of diarrhea
Good luck man. What position are you applying for?
Also my dad just called me from work. I guess his plant is looking for temporary people to work afternoons for awhile and asked all the current employees if they had any family they wanted to work there. 14 an hour isn't bad at all. And while its not upscale like whats around me, its a job.

I will never go back to Manpower. They tried to muscle 4 grand out of an employer they set me up with, which of course cost me the job.

are you done school? I did temp-to-hire through an agency, and am currently employed by the company that temped me. It really depends on your field and how much time you can devote to the jobs.

It took me a month and a half.
decided it's time to start saving for a car.
i'll probably start applying for jobs in a couple weeks, depending on if i get this internship

that is unsurprising, but sucks
hope your job is relatively safe

Yeah, but only because I'm the lowest-paid guy there.

Well, at least you can be secure in the knowledge that people will always want their newspapers.
At least until this internet thing catches on.
Good luck.
Why don't you just see if you can work full time at GameStop?

I heard from someone, I think it was WaM, that they ask the silliest questions for their interviews.
Like
What is the most efficient way of removing a mountain.
Do the interview on the shitter.
Only one thing to be afraid of now.
well it depends how loud the diarrhea is.
If you have good cheek-control you can always just take the phone into the bathroom with you.
Microsoft Guy - Hello
Potatoe - Hello
MG - How is your day going?
P - Uhh... uhh... *drops phone, runs to bathroom*
