how long would it take you to fall in love with this studly, lithe, man-beast?

prince_of_persia.jpg

he'd defend you when the times got tough, or when time turns everyone into freakish abortions

princepersia_101403_007.jpg

but he'd still respect your independence and allow you to slip through tiny cracks in order to, say, pull on levers to open gates

popSandsTime_063003_19.jpg

granted, he's a little egotistical, but he's also so dark and dangerous

persianprince_042903_gcn_01.jpg

with all the ancient family real estate with vistas of ancient asia, i'm sure the wedding would be beautiful

pofpersia_art_030303_01.jpg

he's not dissuaded by minor inconveniences to get what he wants (me)

princeofpersiastuff.jpg

i guess he can be a little unfaithful at times, but he said that she’s all in the past now, or the future, or an alternate present or something

princeissuchaslut2.jpg

and he does have that darker side that gets all drunk and violent and has this weird thing about cutting his wrists with a long flayed metal whip

sandprince.jpg

but with those abs?

i’d let him put his dagger of time into my hourglass

popSandsTime_063003_20.jpg

sometimes, when we are together, it’s like time stands still, or rewinds, or slows down, or gives premonitions of the future at certain save points
get out of here you, you're not invited to the wedding

I loved the first one, skipped the second, and found that the third alternated between "fun" and "chore".

Given that people say the third was better than the second. I think I made the right choice.

I also skipped the second one, though I own it since I bought the PoP trilogy thing for PC. First one is definitely my favorite. The third one has some problems, but it's also great.

There isn't a lot of love for the XBLA remake, but I personally think it's kickass. It is somewhat different than the original, but it's a quality remake nonetheless. One of my favorite XBLA titles.

I completed Sands of Time via rentals, then picked up Warrior Within for a few £m, played it for half an hour, realised I died lots because I hate memorising combos, then went back to Sands of Time.

Is The Two Thrones any good? I've considered getting the Wii version of that. It's called something else, but I can't remember what.

I know this is probably blasphemy but the original 2-D PoPs were not better than the 3-D ones. It's not even as simple as comparing Super Mario 3 to Super Mario 64. You could argue that the level design in SM3 is still more interesting in SM64 and in that way it's more fun but PoP 2-D definitely doesn't beat PoP:SoT in terms of complexity and use of the prince's abilities to get around his environment. I'd be hard pressed to find any area where the original beats out SoT. Not animation, not story, not environment interaction, not fighting, etc. Even something like the actual SoT made running around without abandon a much more interesting endeavor. Some parts of the original trilogy (I'm looking at you specifically POP2 Shadow and Flame!) were just 2 seconds of running then an unpleasant and unavoidable deathtrap. It just got cheap at times.

I'm not afraid to herald the great aspects of the original either though. The standout aspect of the original was the level of animation at the time. The Prince moved much more fluidly than contemporaries like Roger Wilco from the SQ3. Out of this World, I think, came out a little bit later but would have been unthinkable if it were not for PoP. Even as simple as the mechanics for the sword fighting were (just block and slash) they were incredibly addicting and looked fantastic.

SoT just expands on the original PoP so much which is a great thing. : ) When it first came out I was expecting some sort of debacle on the level of Bubsy3-D or Castlevania 3-D or well... Prince of Persia 3D (1990). The sad thing (and I'm sure what everyone else bemoans in here) is the turn in the Prince's personality from SoT to Warrior Within. Blech. It's just as forced as it is transparent in trying to increase the somewhat lukewarm sales of SoT. I think Jordan Mechnar even stopped his involvement because of this, right? I think I remember hearing that at the time. It's just blatantly awful.

It's ok. There are sections that play just like the Sands of Time, but with a few new abilities and a handy "stealth kill" skill so you don't have to engage in combat with groups of enemies.

The dark prince sections, however, are frustrating exercises in rote memorisation.

Great OP, and I loved the atmosphere, aesthetic and overall genius of Sands of Time. It had a fantastically quaint charm which in many ways was the highlight of the game, which made its utter and complete absence in Warrior Within all the more disappointing. The sequel was superior in its combat mechanics but little else in my opinion, as its "in yo FACE" attitude ruined things completely for me.

Sands of Time had as much focus on the combat as there was on the level design. One room of the palace would encompass six or seven stages and that part where you scale the outside of the building was just genius. I didn't play the Warrior Within and only played about half of Two Thrones, but Sands of Time is the best of the three.

    I've played all three games.

I got rid of Warrior Within a while back, but I have the first and third game still.

I've been considering doing a LP, but I'd have to get the second game again...

I beat Sands of Time 3 times in a row, the last time I did it in one sitting.

That is an excellent game. Just the sensation of moving and being awesome and everything was really fun. I'm hoping that weird running delivery-girl in the future game on 360 pulls some of this sort of fun.

I played the XBL remake and really enjoyed it (only had a demo of the original on my 128k spectrum when I was about 7).

I never really got into Sands of Time, I was really not feeling 3d platformers at the time. I feel a Sands of Time:Sigma style remake is needed just for me.

Is the original BC on the 360? I think my brother may actually still have a copy I could steal.

Yep. I bought it about two weeks ago, meaning I now have bought it for all three systems. Easily my second-favorite game of last-gen, right behind RE4.

So I hear that Ubisoft confirmed they're working on a new PoP. That's good. Hopefully it's more like SoT and less like WW and...well, Two Thrones was alright once you get past the Dark Prince segments. Also, the framerate wasn't as smooth as SoT. And bring back the puffy pants!

All the other stuff can stay, though, especially the stealth kill system which ruled.
