Hey All!
First, let me appologize about the downtime. We basically had a series of hardware failures, and it was all I could to do to scramble to keep the mainsite up. At one point I debated setting up the forums to run off of my personal server until the new hardware Robert ordered us arrived. Our Colo guys were really, really nice and basically gave us a loaner box to use until the new hardware arrives. Very nice of them. If you have hosting needs I really would reccomend checking out their site.
So anyway, this is the loaner box, it took us a while to get it, but here it is. I make no promises on everything working fully, but this is the best I could do. I got access to the box at midnight, and it is now 6am. I'm going to crash, when I wake up I'll write more, and if people are interested I'll even tell you about what the future holds for us. But now? Sleep.
...a doctrine which may, I fear, appear wildly paradoxical and subversive. The doctrine in question is this: that it is undesirable to believe a proposition when there is no ground whatever for supposing it true. I must, of course, admit that if such an opinion became common it would completely transform our social life and our political system; since both are at present faultless, this must weigh against it. - Bertrand Russell
Okay, one last thing before I go to bed. I got a lot of emails from people sayign thanks for all the hard work. I read every single one. It means a lot more to me than you know...
That said, the hate mail I got was all of the standard variety. There was one piece of correspondence that was a gem that truly sparkled. I thought I would share with you all. Behold!

That's fake. I utterly refuse to believe such an idiot and a bastard could ever be born into this world.
Also, alpha, you have my thanks for all the work you did. Most people would have just killed them off for good, but you did some amazing work, and for that you really have my respect.
[edit] Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I fully understand that unrecoverable means unrecoverable, and that it's all MySQL's fault. It's just a bit of a shock
Thanks Alpha for brining our beloved forums back. I was starting to get withdrawl symptoms without it :P I know how hard it is to get stuff like this to work, and I appreciate the time and effort you put into this.
I am curious as to what the future holds.... RoR forums? and now for something completely different?
Y'know, it's been a rough couple of months for my creepy reading-from-the-darkness habits. . . first Gamingforce goes down (Then agian, it'd been what, a month since its last reset? We were due. . . ). . . and then PA.
God, next thing you guys tell me, Restricted Section's going down! Erm, no, wait, I mean, Manly Men Doing Women.com. . . err. . . *dash*

hahaha, I think Grammer Rocks is rolling over in it's ABC Saturday Morning grave right now.
Just wanted to add to the pile of thanks for bringing the forums back from the dead.
Alpha, thanks for the work! You inspired me to learn PostgreSQl. Strangely, my boss talked to me three days later mentioning a project involving database work. WIN!
p.s. Your downtime pages that promised forum nirvana on a future Rails/PostgreSQL system were intriguing. If you ever attempt this feat, please update us on it, I think quite a few forumers would be interested in hearing about it.

So, Alpha, for real, is this the April Fools' Day joke? :P
Seriously, Alpha, thanks for all the hard work. We you. No, wait, we you.
If you weren't actually in Mexico with a bunch of hookers with network admin fetishes like bone daddy claimed, I advise looking into that sometime in the very-near future. You've earned it. :^:
I can't imagine an assclown like that actually being any part of the forum community. I mean, even with all the chaos that is SE++, the people over there still manage to type coherently.
In any case, thanks Alpha for everything. :^: It's good to be back.
I still almost don't believe it. I sat at the forum index for a few seconds just wondering if it was actually real, or if it was going to crash again as soon as I clicked on a subforum. Thank you Alpha. I didn't send you an e-mail (figured you were inundated with them as it was), but I do appreciate all the hard work you put into this forum, even if that downtime did get frustrating.
It actually forced me to subscribe to Netflix and delve into my game backlog for lack of anything better to do.
Conventional wisdom might suggest that alphamonkey already knows exactly how much I appreciate his hard work on the forums. But I'm not taking any chances.
alphamonkey, thanks again for all your hard work on the forums.

You're awesome Alpha ^_^!!!

And love all your April Fool's jokes, but this one got really out of hand. :P
